Are gunners FUN to play?

I began to play this game within Gunners release. At first i thought it would be a dual Revolver user, and were really upst when i found out that it used a weird cannon, and it was female only.
But, aside of this i didn't play because i enjoyed more the melee classes. Now, i'm thinking on making one, to, maybe, make it my main farmer, for it is one of the top DPS classes (is it better than Slayer now?)
But i really can't take a character to 65 if it is not fun. I just get sick of it and delete. So give me your opinions on Gunner gameplay please? I didn't like the other classes, had a Reaper, a Brawler, and i have now a Ninja. All really boring. The ninja was kinda fun, but when i got it to 65, i found it so boring, that is now on my "never play anymore, but let it on, maybe it can farm somethings for you" list.

  • Well, imo its fun. You can stay ranged or get up close and blast people. Dodging is fun, shoots while moving (few weird "stuck in place while attacking" skills) and it autoheals somewhat.

And it's not that easy to play like people say - unlike some classes with their lock-on attacks (herp derp... "melee", bloody snipers more like) you have to actually aim if you want your slow (but strong) attacks and stuns to hit...

Yeah, they're fun if you like a more fast-paced playstyle. In PvP they're really good, but aren't too far ahead of the other 2 ranged DPS classes. On PvE they're among the top 4 classes with the highest damage output, but they're no longer the number one, curently ninjas and brawlers can outperform them and reapers are in a more or less equal level.

If you find it fun to survive, then yes. If you find it fun to be constantly at high risk, then probably not. Their DPS is just about same as Slayers, the biggest difference being that they can be at safe distance if need be, and just overall have it easier avoiding stuff. It MIGHT be a bit boring leveling up when nothing can hit you, but I say that depends on the person playing.
I personally main slayer, they get insanely fast and heavy hitting at lvl 63+, while being probably the weakest/second weakest class to level up with. And there is a slight thrill in dodging attacks at such close range, though it might get annoying at times. Oh, and their true potential can be seen once you get closer to Base + +200 Crit Factor, until then you might feel a bit weak.

As for PvP... Don't hope anything out of Slayer if you have high ping. Gunner is still perfectly fine in PvP.

I personally didn't find the class fun. Way too safe, and the choice of attacks given to it leave something to be desired. Note that I'm talking about fun factor here. Not dps rank or anything. Just how I'd enjoy the class. While I got the class to 65, I never really meshed well with it. Something simply didn't click on me for the class. Maybe because I felt it a bit clunky. Maybe if I actually sink some time into the class as I'm dong with ninja and now Slayer, maybe I could find something fun to do. In reality, I preferred archer as a ranged class because even though I know little about min maxing it I've found some sort of flow from attack to attack that I really liked, and is interesting to play. But I'm not yet there on Gunner.
  • Being a gunner main, I'm going to be a bit biased, but I think they are pretty fun. Gunners played at melee range are both the most effective and the most fun, IMO. Sitting back watching a slow arcane barrage animations float towards a boss is boooring. Anyone who plays a gunner as a full ranged class is doing it wrong (yeah, I said it). It's also kinda fun to have to swing the camera around a lot for optimal play.

Other classes can be more fun/challenging, but that all comes down to personal preference. Also, leveling a gunner can be a bit boring, but the same can be said about most of the classes. Leveling to 65 in general is just plain boring, sometimes. If you found brawler, ninja and reaper to not be fun due to how "easy" the classes are to use and be decent at, compared to older classes, then gunner might not be a good fit for you. Gunners have a good deal of survivability in their kit and they are not very punishing to those who make mistakes.

In my experience gunner is the easiest dps class to play to this date-- but that's not a bad thing per se, I really enjoy playing my gunner. It's also a class that's notoriously 'easy to learn, hard to master', where you can play without much thought and get by fine but if you wanna get good you have to learn the rotations and tricks, like how to properly aim time bomb and how to triple arcane barrage. Much like most other classes.

But, because it's easy to pick up, it's great for people who suffer from low dps or high ping (burst fire issues aside) your dodge roll iframe is very long and you have an OP iframe in the recall skill, so not only are you safe in terms of heavy armor but you aren't just a sitting turret turtle. You also have a cheat death passive. I'd also mention being at range but, like grayn0de said, a proper gunner should be played closer to melee range. Your movement skill, Rocket Jump, also sends you a really long distance, making it easier to reposition yourself in spite of gunner's slow in-combat movement speed (i mean you are carrying a huge Arcannon around after all).

I personally have never found gunner clunky (that title to me goes to reaper) but to each their own. Personally I find it satisfying to play.

    Hi there.

I main Gunner DPS. I have a Starfall +15 gun. Here are the pro's:

    +Extremely high DPS
    +Easy to farm IoD/Ghillieglade
+Low skill cap (it's very easy to play at a high level)
+Healing robot that is immune to all damage and CC (you can blow him up as a stun)
+Unique abilities (no other class has a skill like command recall, which can be used while staggered and knocked down)

    Con's:
-Playstyle is not very dynamic (you basically use the same 4-5 skills to get full willpower and then use bombardment/burstfire)
-Mobility can sometimes be an issue (you only get 1 roll which can be glyphed for a chance to reset, rocket jump, point blank- which is slow and requires 180 degree camera turn, and command recall- but using command recall only as an iframe and never as a skill cancel means your DPS will suffer)
-WASD movement is extremely slow in combat
-Surprisingly squishy even though it's in plate armor

If you want to play top tier DPS with a high skill cap and dynamic playstyle I would recommend the Ninja. A lot of people say it's faceroll but that's only if you NEVER get hit. Your "Focus" skill will give you significantly more damage if you avoid taking damage. However, this is a lot harder than you may think, even with all their iframes. You need to be able to react very quickly to situations and use your skills appropriately. The only downside I see to this class other than this is that the skillset is extremely repetitive. Many of their skills are only useful in PvP and their PvE rotation consists mainly of 4 skills (after Circle of Steel nerf).

Reaper is the next highest DPS and it's melee. Like the ninja it is very dynamic but has a few more skills in it's rotation. Also it not as squishy, does not require you to play perfectly, and it has a class carry (you get to live once every 5 min when taking fatal damage).

Alternatively, you can try making a Sorcerer. It is not top tier at the moment but will be in the future. At the moment it is an extremely high skill cap class. One wrong move and you will likely die. However it has a lot of iframes and its skills are going to look really flashy when it gets buffed in a few months or so.
