How are Lancers in PVP?

Ive been wanting to level up a lancer for a while now, just the esthetic of having a huge lance and shield as well as being a heavy armor class is very appealing to me. I love the chains and their animations especially when they've got a lot of attack speed

I was just wondering how they fair in pvp. More focused on 1v1 pvp and little skirmishes here and there. Are they capable of 100-0 someone with a combo? Or do they whittle people down more so? Is it a hassle to whittle someone down or is there a lot of opportunity to outplay and punish someone for a mistake. If they can't 100 - 0 people , on average how low would a combo get someone??

Thanks!! lancer is just so intriguing to me!

You can 100-20 people in 1 lancer combo with the correct cc chain and abilities on lancer.
  • rallying cry - seven second kd and stagger resist. it's meh at best. most classes have stun setups to counter rallying cry.

giga - hard to land, long cooldown.

lancer damage is average i guess.

you need to be the best of the best to play lancer at a highly competitive level in pvp.

go for it if you want though. it's a fun class

Just keep leashing and stunning enemy healer so they can watch their team die while not being able to do anything, or target of interest ie enemy carry. There are certain people that can carry the entire team and once they are out, the team is done for.

Mainly the shouts that helps the team, as of 2016 Guardian Shout increases your power and your team's power, in a team environment it increases the damage by quite a bit and you will not have the sad situation where a stack of people run away successfully to get healed with 2k hp remaining.

If you max out power, you can 100-20 a cloth class quite easily even on high ping of 250.

The larger your team is the more benefit the lancer provides, ie Fraywind and CS. In small teams or solo some of those skills don't really help out as much.

This is a list of lancer skills that requires 0 aim and possibly no one knows about:

    Guardian Shout
    https://sites.google.com/site/yoshasstuff/new-guardian-shout-review
Adds 91% to endurance & 30% power of other group members within 40m for 45 seconds, NOW applies to yourself as well. But still ends if you get KD hence why you will see lancers GS and just stand near the gate and avoid the cannon in CS so they avoid getting KD.

It's a buff bubble that travels with the lancer, so it can be casted before fight starts. Puts your rally on CD.

    Rallying Cry
Obviously you and party members within 10m distance become immune to knockdown and immobilization for 8 seconds. Shares the same cooldown with Guardian Shout. Great for initial clash or evacuating your teammate from battle.

10m is really really really small. Leash by standard is 18m so go figure.

    Menacing Wave
Probably the most underused skill, it will knock people off mounts, can continue casting while the lancer is walking. Will reduce people hit to snail speed for a few brief seconds. Cast it in the middle of enemy team to make them feel stupid. Making landing skill shots extremely easy on enemy even with highest ping, you can walk up behin

    Pledge of Protection
Absorb 35% of damage done to other group members within 20m for 12sec by taking it on yourself. Your defense determines
how muchdamage they take. 20 m is small, you will not save them if they are simply eating damage for no reason. Very good for evacuating from a battle.

    Lockdown Blow
Small cone AOE skill that slows people down. Damage is quite decent. Good thing to land in any situation as it makes enemy more vulnerable to getting leashed.

Wallop is pretty much your trademark damage skill and a lot of the kill source, same for spring attack.

People will tell you different things but IMO you are either doing one of the three objectives:
    1. Create kill pressure through disruption- Unlike other glass cannons, you can take a truck full of damage. You keep bashing the healer or person/objective of interest and drawing attention from enemy team to you to tilt the balance. if you keep 5 enemy on you comfortably you can tip the fight towards the favor of your team as your team has one missing while enemy team has 5 missing because they are spending time chasing you.
    2. Fighting stuff - In contrary to popular opinion you can do quite bit of damage in PVP due to the ongoing buffs to lancer. No matter what class you are, whether you wear equalized gear or not, you can affect the outcome of a fight in a positive way.
    3. Pursuing - Leashing and menacing wave to give your team the most out of a winning confrontation, or if you stack tons of damage, just leash them in for a free kill.
Leashing is not a slow projectile skill, it travels to your target instantly when the server looks at it. Aim it as if you were aiming a 100% hitting weapon in FPS. Kaia shield nullifies it.
  • i made one, im excited. I love the low cooldown combos, high endurance and bread and butter combos while having a nice impact in a group situation

all lancer need in pvp (assuming lancer knows it's class) is friendly healer. Giga OP

sounds like excuses to me! its really not as bad as you make it sound and only ppl having problems landing gigas are pve casuals who are used to using it on stationary bams. Rome wasnt built in a day fool give these ppl a chance to giga a few ppl and they will learn.

ask any pvp lancer and they'll most likely tell you about landing giga.

I'm not dissing the class by any means. I used to main lancer in pvp.

    Anyways,

If you max out power, you can 100-20 a cloth class quite easily even on high ping of 250.

    don't spread blasphemy.

don't max out power. Either find a balance between crit and power or focus on crit first. Lancer base crit sucks. They need crits to do well.
  • Lancers do the second worst damage in the game, beating only Priests in damage. There are a lot of match ups Lancers simply shouldn't win due to low damage. They are also the hardest class to play in PvP, so all that effort for barely any reward just really makes it not worth it.

Lancers used to be considered good long long ago when hp pools were tiny due to their CC, but now it doesn't matter that they can stun you for a long time because they won't make a dent in your hp. A good Lancer can still be hella annoying and a game changer in group PvP, but in 1v1 a good Lancer is still less scary than any other good player on their class, and even a decent Warrior out performs a good Lancer. It's a [filtered] class that just got nerfed during Ninja patch pretty harshly, and will be receiving some PvE buffs in the future. (Though they are gonna be really infuriating in mass PvP when they give Sorcerers, Brawlers and maybe Ninjas all that AS)

Lancer is a group PvP class, only play it if you're planning to do a lot of group PvP.
  • Lancer is still good like people are saying, the backstep change is a little aids but overall still amazing.

I'm curious how a lancer has worse PvP damage than a Mystic...
  • Nuvole, may I ask if you even play lancer?

You're just spewing bs at this point.

The backstep nerfs have made lancer even more garbage because it uses so much resolve. There's less resolve for blocking now. And you can only backstep TWICE.

Lancer is one of the HARDEST classes to play in pvp. It has a really high skill curve.

Iron will blocks like 30k damage and has a moderately long cooldown.

Please actually try playing the class before you try and speak about it. You look like a moron.

    In pvp
    Not the best.
    But, better than average.

    In Pve
    Garbage compare with Brawler.

  • YuriYuri ✭✭
After playing around with lancer a bit, I don't think the backstep resolve change is that bad. It's still not as good as the previous backstep, but you can block way more now. It's really tough dodging estars then plague and then being out of resolve though.
  • You obv dont know how to play lancer then because in a 1v1 they mitigate most of your damage with iron will and their no cooldown block equalizing the damage between the 2 players. Also they are not hard to play in pvp its just the difference between an ok lancer and a good lancer is night and day. The same goes for virtually all the pre reaper classes in fact an "ok" warrior is worse than an "ok" lancer.

Iron Will takes 1 hit to break, maybe two if you got low power, and more like 5 if you're a Lancer, they don't absorb all your damage, this isn't a Kaias, without CC immunity, you can land your big abilities to break the shield and FUNNY ENOUGH OOM THEM, a lancer tanking your [filtered] with Iron Will, has no mana. This is NOT Kaias, it's very mediocre.

All blocks are without CD, Brawlers is really clunky which gives itself a CD, but Warrior and Berserker have no CD either, this isn't WH patch, this is now.

Lancer has the highest skill floor in the game, I don't think this is really debatable, between Leash, Shield Barrage Timing, and the consistency required to be effective, there isn't a harder class to play.

A decent Warrior will kill a decent priest or Gunner, a decent Lancer however, will get [filtered] on 90%+ of the time.

Well I can 100-0 people with a Mystic, I cannot 100-0 people with a Lancer. Thrall of Wrath alone out damages Lancer, but the double thrall + poison certainly helps as well. Before you say "Thrall of Wrath is defective, and should/would never land all three attacks" let me just tell you, someone who knows what they are doing and times it properly has you dead when sleep lands, there is nothing you can do about it after that, Mystics are not without real CC.
  • YuriYuri ✭✭
You clearly have never faced a good lancer wheres tsumori when you need him.

    Hi I'm right here o/
  • Mobius1Mobius1 ✭✭✭
    @ThePurpleKnightmare

Thrall of Wrath? A 5 minute cool down ability if glyphed, that won't even take 50% HP if you stand still and eat all its damage wearing current gear?

Sorry, but you overestimate Mystic damage, and underestimate Lancer damage. Lancers do great damage in PvP for a non-OP non-new class.

A Mystic is great at PvP, and at killing, absolutely. But mystics kill very slow. Only priests do less damage in PvP.

Lancers are amazing at many things. Like giga, which IMO should be nerfed!! (Along with all the other OP AoE CCs.)
