There are entirely too many PvP options on the PvE server, which causes a lot of confusion and consternation for many PvEers who joined a PvE server, actually expecting to be on a "PvE server". I have even seen people post about friends who have left the game, after seeing all of the reward options available to PvPers on the PvE server, but they joined a PvE server because they have no interest in engaging in those options that most people would expect to exist only on the PvP servers. PvEers are not required to participate in all of the PvP options that are on the PvE server, but they really don't belong on a PvE server to begin with, and the fact that the PvE and PvP servers are almost exactly the same has pretty much killed the population of the PvP servers.

The very simple and basic answer is that the ONLY PvP option NOT available on the PvE servers is the ability for open-world PvP (you cannot make outlaw declaration on the PvE servers, but you can on the PvP servers). Other than that one thing, every PvP option available on the PvP servers is also available on the PvE servers. In fact, many PvPers just join the PvE server, because the open-world PvP on the PvP servers is so severely restricted that it really doesn't matter to a PvPer, because the restrictions make PvP play on the PvP servers virtually non-existent, so many of them just join the PvE servers, where all of the other PvP options are as readily available as they are on the PvP servers. The decisions to create such a mis-match/conglomeration of PvP and PvE across all servers has basically killed the population of the PvP servers, especially combined with the severely limiting open-world PvP options on the PvP servers. Playing on a PvP or PvE server is basically the same thing, and almost all of the PvP options exist on the PvE servers (with the exception of outlaw declaration), so PvPers have no incentive to play on the PvP servers, which has caused the PvP server populations to deteriorate badly.

To be more specific, on the PvE servers you can challenge people to duels (the people you challenge have the option to ignore all of those annoying random unsolicited pop-ups, in which case you will not be able to duel with them, if they do not agree to it), and there are numerous "battlegrounds" that provide a lot of rewards to PvPers playing on the PvE servers, especially in the Vanguard requests. Some of the Vanguard PvP things on the PvE servers include Champion's Skyring (don't be fooled by the mis-leading tagline of "Ranked: Solo" - it is actually a team thing of 3 vs. 3), Corsair's Stronghold (20 vs. 20), Gridiron (15 vs. 15), and Fraywind Canyon (15 vs. 15).

If you have played on the PvP servers, then you have basically played on the PvE servers, except you cannot make outlaw declaration on the PvE servers, so no one can randomly attack you on the PvE server, and you can't randomly attack others. Other than that one thing, they are exactly the same. However, there are some benefits to being on the PvP server, as far as XP and maybe some other things. I have seen a few posts about that before, and I don't know the specifics, but I do know that whenever I create new characters on the PvP server I am able to level them up MUCH FASTER than the characters I create on the PvE server. Not that it matters much, because it still takes only a few hours, on either server, but a few hours LESS on the PvP server. I don't know if there are any benefits to being on the PvP server, once you reach level 65. There may be, but I don't know.

Are all these under "Battlegrounds"? Are there any other types?

Yes, they are all listed under "Battleground Matching" and "Vanguard Requests". I am a PvEer, so I know those exist (of course, I do not play them), but other than dueling and those battlegrounds that I listed, I do not know of any other PvP options. I am not saying there are not others, but those are the only ones I know of. However, I also logged into my level 65 characters on the PvP server, and those are the only PvP options I also saw there, when I went through the menu (again, on the PvP server you CAN make outlaw declaration, which is the only PvP option I know of, which is not available on the PvE server). I went through the menus for "Vanguard Requests", "Instance Matching", and "Battleground Matching", and those options were the only PvP options I saw on both the PvP and PvE servers (except for dueling on either server, or outlaw declaration only on the PvP server).

Edited to add - There are several very helpful PvPers who share knowledge in this forum, so if there are any other PvP options on the PvE server that I did not list above, then I am sure one of them will pop in here and add those options to the list. :)
  • PvP server also has GvG (Guild vs Guild)

Tbh, PvP is optional on PvE server. So i dont see why you "complain" about it.

The battlegrounds is not what killed PvP servers. The problem is that open world PvP is just non-existant (even on PC from what i've heard) and has no rewards compared to BG.

I started this game on March, and up until server merge of August i was in a PvP server. We never had open world pvp except from when we organized it between our own guild...

Lack of PVP incentives is what killed the PVP server among other major things that happened in the past. The servers being similar did not.

Open world PVP is not too limited with the addition of GVG. If a guild leader challenges another guild, they can kill any one of their members anywhere, except Velika. Even without the other guild's consent.

Considering the amount of events there have been, (triple/double vanguards, double drops) PVE has been far more profitable than PVP. The Battlegrounds may be accessible to PVE players, but they aren't forced to take part. I joined a PVE server because I didn't want open world PVP, but Battlegrounds I enjoy as do many others who feel the same. They are also cross-server queued so they're there for the PVP players with the option being there for the PVE players to join in. In addition, I don't believe PVP is more profitable than PVE or that it is 'required' to get materials faster. First of all, you have to win your matches in PVP to get any sort of reward, even the vanguard. (unless you lose 5 times you get an rng based crate). You always get something from PVE dungeons. Then, even after winning matches, you have to hope you get a jackpot reward you want. You can spend an hour doing dungeons and have a pretty good amount of feedstock for example, or you can PVP for an hour and not get any feed at all, even if you win.

Using that PVE/PVP server logic, the PVP server shouldn't have any dungeons then. It should only have battlegrounds and an open world to PK in,

Battlegrounds and duels are currently the only PVP options on a PVE server. I believe they are working on a Guild vs. Guild option for the PVE server as well. Only difference from the PVP server's version is our guild leaders would have to opt in/out.
  • I can guarantee you that if there were NO PvP options on the PvE server, then there would be a lot more players on the PvP server. As I said above, "In fact, many PvPers just join the PvE server, because the open-world PvP on the PvP servers is so severely restricted that it really doesn't matter to a PvPer, because the restrictions make PvP play on the PvP servers virtually non-existent, so many of them just join the PvE servers, where all of the other PvP options are as readily available as they are on the PvP servers."

Going off that, then there would be no reason to switch servers. Battlegrounds are cross-server queued which means the PVP players can queue for them with PVE players. The PVE server is the best of both worlds and I believe GVG is in the works for PVE as well.
The PVP server died because players quit due to battlegrounds being unplayable upon release, issues with the gunner event and the consequences that followed, among other things. They come to the PVE server because they want people to do PVE dungeons with rather than having to rely on instance matching to get a group capable of clearing the dungeon. They come here to have players to play with and a populated server. The jackpot rewards are there to give people incentive to queue for Battlegrounds otherwise they would never pop and we work to keep that going.
If there were no PVP options on the PVE server, they wouldn't have stayed on the PVP server. They would have quit entirely and a lot of the players you see running around on our server, keeping this community going, are those PVPers.
  • Thanks to all of you for answering my question.
  • Honestly there is no difference between pvp servers vs pve servers. Only on events were people kill other people for loot, but you can prank them just creating an Alt,and leveling to 62 . No one could kill you, and you can farm without being worried for pkers.
