Temporary Achievement Rewards (Why is this needed?)

Okay, so I'm playing through the story, finally got to level 60 and started doing the vanguard assault on northern arun, and made my way through the quest-on-rails zone known as Savage Reach. Finally make it to the first major "Town" of the area, do a few quests, and all of a sudden I get a pair of achievements.

Fly to the North has an item reward of "A Week of Night Mares" and a 1hr 100% XP boost. .. Okay, the XP boost is understandable, don't want everyone having permanent XP boosts. (Oh wait, Elite, nevermind, .. that's another rant on its own) .. But the mount. Why is this mount time-limited? I don't understand it. I got it as an achievement, I will -never- be able to achieve the achievement again unless I play through with another character, and this item cannot be traded, cannot be sold, cannot be banked, etc.. So it's literally stuck in my character's inventory as soon as I accept it from the mailbox. .. An achievement reward like this should -NEVER- be time-limited. Either provide a permanent reward, or don't provide a reward for the achievement to begin with.

Breach the Reach has two item rewards as well. These are both time-limited items, and doesn't really make sense to have it since the player cannot hold onto it for a long time. Again, if you're going to reward a player for a specific achievement, it should be a permanent thing if it's going to be something that's completely cosmetic, in this case a weapon skin and an outfit.

Temporary stuff is just there to make you want to get the perm version on your own time, like a tester. These achievements are [filtered] easy that you just end up doing by following the story line, you ain't gonna get free stuff for that-- well maybe the weapon skin and armor outfit, don't see why those weren't perm, but the Nightmare is a cash shop thing so they ain't gonna be handing out perm versions willy nilly.

You get the week of night mares as soon as you start the 65 quest line pretty much so it's just a nice gesture on their part, like hey here you go a 280 mount for you while you level to 65!

Easy or not, I don't care about "Difficulty" here. I care about the actual semantics behind rewarding a player for completing an achievement. If it's going to be an item-based reward for completing an achievement whether it's something pretty much everyone gets or it's super-difficult as in only 0.000001% of the playerbase ever achieves the achievement, the reward should not be temporary. That's just a slap in the face.

Because reaching a level is not an achievement in this game anymore since a long time ago. People can currently get from 1 to 65 in a day, even less, without even touching his/her wallet nor using a level 60 scroll. The text in those things given shouldn't even read 'achievement', they should read 'demo' instead. Or my favorite. lolchievement. :p

As an up note, I did get a permanent weapon skin for my brawler when she got to 65 the other day from the current leveling event. It's one of the only 3 skins available for her at the fed bills shop, but hey, it's something, and it's tradeable too. :)
  • You can get free mounts through Federation credits... I believe Nightmare is one of them.

It sounds like a stupid business model to give everyone free 280 mounts.

You can't buy Night Mare with Federation Bills. The mounts available in the Federation Bill Shop are Dafi, Aeolian Zebra, Death Charger, and Nexus Warhorse. Dafi is the only one with 280 speed, though.

Ah.. point still stands though. A lot of mounts are flat out free or able to be bought by with gold. A free 280 mount on top of that for every Lv 60 sounds silly.

There's also a ton of cash shop mounts people sell on the marketplace for in game money, meaning, free in terms of real money. Some go for as low as 6k-7k at least on Tempest reach server. Nightmare is often posted there. Still I do agree on OP's comment that at least those handouts shouldn't be called achievements but demos or plain handouts. Though I do not want them removed.
  • Cash shop items or not, again you guys are not seeing my point here.

If BHS/EnMasse wants to have an achievement provide an item reward, this item reward should not be temporary. This is just a slap in the face as it's literally dangling a treat on a stick that's glued to your head so no matter how fast you are, its out of reach. Its a reward for completing something they deemed as prestigious, so they wanted you to have something to show for it. But nope, not when it's a "7-day free trial". These free trial things make sense for being handed out as part of events and promotions, but not for prestigious achievements. They don't make the title rewards temporary.
