What class to roll next?

I've been playing with the idea of a new toon for a while and I'd like to try something different. I'm interested in hearing what people's opinions on certain classes are. I know that the general rule is to play what you consider fun, and honestly, I've yet to discover a class that I haven't had much fun playing (with the exception of Zerk, Mystic, and Priest, not terribly my style).

My favorite class is Archer. I really enjoy it. I've also played and enjoyed Ninja, Reaper, Brawler, and Gunner to some extent.

Right now I'm looking at Lancer, Warrior, Slayer, or Sorc. In particular I've always wanted to roll a Sorc, but Lancer seems really interesting as well. How useful are these classes in the current game, and with the class balance buff coming up? Are Warrior or Slayer even relevant? Are Sorc and Lancer still beneficial to parties anymore?

Curious to hear your thoughts, thanks!

Hihi I'm a Sorc main from Highwatch, though I dabbled in Ninja for a time. I can say honestly that I think you'll find that of those classes, Sorc is probably the most similar in terms of playstyle; though it is quite unique. As a legacy class however, it is quite difficult at the moment, meaning you'd need to practice lots. It additionally requires gathering a lot of crit factor from gear before it can be viable; it also takes a good healer, a glistening dyad (ideally, though you can use the red niveot if necessary), and mana elixirs to manage mp, and the rare glyphs are quite important. But if you're ready to put in the work, you can do quite well with it! :)

Sorc may not have the pure dps capabilities of Gunner or Ninja, but a skilled one can put out very reasonable damage. The big issue with the class at the moment is even skilled Sorcs can have trouble burning shields in a dungeon like Shadow Sanguinary, since you can't really rely on your most damaging skills to crit. With the class rebalances, Sorc shouldn't face this problem as much; the dps boost will put it in a very good place (not on the same level as Ninja, but moving towards Gunner), and the mp adjustments should make it much easier to manage.

Have a look at Yosha's guide if you want some more information on the class!

    I do feel I should mention it's not a very fun class to level... its utility comes only in endgame, after lots of practice. ;u;

All this being said, Lancer, Warrior, and Slayer are all good classes too, though, so take your time choosing! :3

EDIT: Oh, and I mainly play PvE, but Sorcs are considered quite useful in large-scale PvP as well, due to their crowd control and AoE damage~
  • Thanks for the input! I'll def think about Sorc a little more. :) Anybody play a lancer who wants to chime in?

The lancer is a classic tank. Your damage output is low but on the other hand you're quite "tanky", means you can stand a lot of damage next to the blocked damage. While warrior is an evasive tank and Brawler is a head-on-I-make-damage-while-blocking-tank, the lancer stands his ground and feels more like a protector (several aggro skills, group buff).

I'm too chicken to play anything higher than Kalivans, so I cant say that much more about lancer. In this range it's normal to lose aggro to the high DPS monsters, but you have enough skills to catch the boss again.

As the sorcerer gets special attention next, I'd level a sorcerer. Of all classes, the sorcerer is the hardest class to play (my opinion) as you don't have a fix and easy rotation plus you need to time your selfbuffs and a lot of skills.

Warrior, managing your edge gain and getting a Glistening Hardy Dyad Niveot (or any defensive glistening dyad). Otherwise you'll find yourself with mana issues frequently. Other than that, the class is overall good unless you want to tank with it, Lancer and Brawler are superior tanks.

Slayer, is and has been one of the top dps for a while, which is why out of all the buffs for classes theirs are minimal and are usually about making the class feel better rather than just giving it more power.

Sorcerer, a class that requires a lot of practice and fairly ping dependent. It is going to be the first class to recieve a revamp that Korea will soon have, although before that we do have a couple buffs for it. Sorcerer is a good class if you want to put some time into learning.

Lancer, one of the dominant tanks that will be receiving another set of buffs alongside Brawler nerfs. Geared and skilled Lancers already do decent damage in addition to buffing the damage of their party members. The only thing Brawler does better than Lancer is carry and probably speed runs, although not sure how much of a gap there will be after the Lancer buffs and Brawler nerfs.

A competent Lancer doesn't really lose aggro now a days even when out geared, that's more of an issue for Brawler. You should try going past that dungeon though, the normal modes aren't that bad to at least try out.
  • Hmmm, the complexity of the Sorc doesn't worry me too much, as I think Archer is in a fairly similar situation and I believe I'm managing it pretty well. It was a pain to level, I won't deny that. The Sorc seems to have better CC moves than Archer does though. With the treatment Sorc is getting in the upcoming balance patch I'm pretty interested.

Lancer seems like fun but I just worry about my ability to be an effective tank. I can do it alright on my Brawler but I get nervous about going into dungeons and being a subpar tank and getting people killed. That's not as much of an issue for DPS.

I think I'm going to roll a Sorc first, and maybe try a Lancer later on. Thanks everyone.
