Returning to Tera. Having performance issues.

Im coming back to tera after a long time, but I'm getting much worse performance than before. Currently I get around 30-40 Fps everywhere and its dips into 20's when in combat. This is pretty unplayable and I would appreciate some help.
I currently use a 970 FTW edition and a i5 2500k cpu. I was a using a 7870 OC before and getting better performance.

  • It seems like everyone (almost) has been experiencing some major ping issues since the last patch. There are a few threads here on the topic that might help you out, but sadly, the game is becoming unplayable for a lot of people.

back around the Gunner patch i believe Windows Defender had a update which was causing performance issues with Tera. try adding your Tera folder to the exception list and see if it makes a difference. I have a I7-4790k 4GHz and GTX 970 FTW+ ACX2.0 and sitting around 80 fps minimum (still gets low in highly populated areas like 30 fps or lower)
  • Thanks for the replies. I dont even have windows defender enabled so thats not it. I have tried UI fixes and everything so Im at a loss.

still worth trying adding it to the folder mine was of as well but it still helped.

Set Lurid Display, Aerial and Lighting Enrichment to 1. These are known fps eaters. To get a better anti aliasing than Lighting Enrichment could ever possibly do and with none of the fps lag, go to your nVidia Control Panel>Manage 3d settings>Program Settings and add tera to the programs list, and activate FXAA there as a custom setting.

If you have Windows 10, chances are that Defender gets reactivated on each restart, because Windows 10 is made for the "I can't computer" folks. So open it up and add the whole Tera folder on it's exclusions.
  • Probably not your solution but...

The servers for TERA are located in Chicago. They got a severe storm earlier, and when I played TERA at around 8:50 (when storms were lashing Chicago), lag increased beyond normal limits. Then to add insult to injury, those storms made a beeline towards my house (I have winds and hail battering my house now).

Again, probably not the solution, but just an observation.

fps does not equal ping people. your connection to tera is independent of your systems capability/game engine or lack thereof to render the game.

    OP
noticed this about 4~5 weeks ago, fps (average 40+) suddenly tanking no matter where i am open world. by tanking i mean single digits at times. though oddly in instances like cw it will go over 100 which should be impossible considering the game is capped at 80. all i can think of since nothing changed on my system is some patch affected some peoples systems...and hopefully a future patch will clear the issue.

stopped playing except to log in for elite. IoD dailies with those kind of frame drops suck.
  • Yea Im just gonna not play. Thanks for all the replies all.
