Bad news and worse weather

*Note: Before you guys say "move this to off topic", part of this affects En Masse.*

I got bad news, I got worse news, and I got even worse news.

The bad news is, the second semifinal for Copa America, which is supposed to be going on right now in Chicago, is being delayed due to severe storms, with tornadoes, lightning, hail...the whole 9 yards.

The worse news? The TERA servers are taking a beating right now due to those storms because Chicago is where TERA servers are located.

The even worse news? Having increased lag in TERA and postponed the Copa America semifinal, those severe storms are on high speed approach towards my house in Central Indiana. I am under a tornado watch.

Velik preserve me!!!!

i hope you will be ok. hopefully you wont have any tornados or damage to your home.
  • The good news is that it's just a tornado watch. I live in an area that gets many tornado watches and warnings every year. Tornado watch typically means conditions are favorable for a tornado to form while a tornado warning means that one has been spotted and in your area. Just remember to stay calm and safe!

Stay safe. Gather any info about how to stay safe in emergency cases as this and follow those instructions.
  • Thanks guys for all the assistance.

The storm is literally 10 miles away, and from the looks of it, sounds pleasant...90-100 MPH wind gusts, quarter size hail, and a possible tornado.

As Fall Out Boy sang, "Here comes this rising tide."

I will hopefully see you all tomorrow.

Edit: By Thulsa's black heart! Tornado sirens are going off...taking cover now.

    Bathrooms are OP against tornadoes.
  • Relax. I've lived in the American Midwest for 15 years, and never been struck by lightning or come even remotely close to being sucked up by a tornado. As long as you don't live in a barn or a mobile home, you should be fine (your power might go out though; better hope you have a good surge protector).

Stay safe darling. I wish you safety and protection.
  • UPDATE

Thanks all for the well wishes. I want to provide an update.

The good news is, the house is still standing. My dog was freaked out this morning, but it is right now overcast, but expected to become mostly sunny by mid-afternoon. We do have some reports that we will get a passing shower as storms hit the southern part of the state, but it is expected to move out within the hour.

Unfortunately, I live near a creek that is prone to flooding, and I decided today to take my dog for a walk on the trail system bordering the creek, which would also allow me to see what damage has been done. While the neighborhood meadow didn't suffer much damage outside of some low lying trail spots getting flooded (which I was expecting), the two campgrounds near my neighborhood was an entirely different story. Parts of the campground area are under at least 3 inches of water...they were fast flowing so I was not ready to risk my life to measure the true depth. Suffice to say, the floodwaters were deep enough for 3 ducks to go swimming and also deep enough to mean my leisurely biking will have to be put on hold.

I submitted a Storm Report to the National Weather Service explaining that we got hit with 70 mph wind gusts along with creek/stream out of banks. As of right now, they are sending people to check the validity of the report, so I'm about to go out and meet them and direct them to the spot.

Lastly, for those who were wondering the final result of the Copa America semifinal, Chile won 2-0 against Colombia. Chile will play Argentina on Sunday at MetLife Stadium for the championship, while Colombia will play against the USA on Saturday at University of Phoenix stadium for 3rd place.

Thanks all once again. If there are no other objections, I wish this thread closed.
  • Don't you think you blew this whole 'severe storm' thing out of proportion? I mean yea it was a storm, but it wasn't as bad as you made it out to be. Being one state to the right of you and watching first hand as it ran right over my city, there was no rotation strong enough to produce a tornado, the hail was barely nickle size, and with a few knocked down tree, it was an average summer storm. Honestly, it wasn't all that bad.

I read "being delayed due to severe storms with tomatoes"
  • I used to live in Bloomington, IN...as a Kansas native I thought I was safe from tornadoes there :expressionless:
  • I'm in Colorado I'm under a tornado watch/warning 3 days of the week...what's your point?

Have you ever been to a data center? They don't keep the servers outside underneath a tarp....

You must live quite far east then. I'm on the front range where we're tornado immune.
  • Man that storm passed through my area last night. Lots of lightning, some flooding, high winds, bit of rotation (tornado warnings). Very heavy rains. My power almost went out. Almost. All in all, just a typical Midwestern summer storm. Far more damaging to utility lines and property than an actual threat to human life (nobody died as far as I know). It's just par for the course when you live in this part of the country. Certainly not enough to warrant alerting the press (they were already on alert anyway).
