New Lancer Lvl. 65 HELP :(

Hi, I want to begin by stating that this will most likely come off as whiny and idiotic. Nonetheless, if your reply to this is aggressive, unforgiving, and/or blunt, I will still still appreciate the advice (no matter how demoralizing).

I just started Tera again this summer with the hopes of making it to level 65 to truly experience the role of a tank since under about level 60 dungeons do not exactly require any tanking skill. The problem is that I now realized the "stepping stone" dungeons leading to end game dungeons was more like a flat road that lead to a ladder with broken footholds. The journey is certainly unforgiving for a "noob lancer" such as I.

I do understand the gear grinds (one of my main focuses right now), have been reading up on multiple guides to maximize my abilities, but of course there's nothing like real experience from actually entering dungeons. This will sound especially "noobish" but iframing was/is a harder concept for me to master but I know it's a matter of timing and practice.

Now the REAL problem. I can't help but feel the need to apologize ahead of time every time I enter a dungeon because I feel the possibility of wasting others' time even though I still want to practice. For example I have been practicing Banyakas for the iframe, but it is really nothing too close to Verno. Sorry for rambling but is there any way I can practice or at least make it easier on my teammates (besides listening to directions)? I know the tank is super important and I really would love to be a dependable one that people would party again with.

Have you tried Island of Dawn BAMs? They are a great way to practice dps positioning, not sure about tanking.

I also recommend Kalivan's Challenge. It's currently the only two-star dungeon that require some core skill for all classes instead of mashing random buttons, hits often but not too hard and has decent examples of endgame mechanics.
  • Yes I have with a gunner friend of mine! I did it to practice using backstep for positioning and (though it's an open space) kind of maintain a position so that my gunner friend doesn't have to jump around to maintain backcrits and what not.

I will do the challenge again since the first time I did it the party was already at the last boss and I found it too simple to say the least.

If anybody else would like to give me some tips in terms of parties or question my knowledge so they can berate and correct me I am open. :)
  • Lancer's iFrame is shorter than most with the backstep, at least that's how I feel when I play my lancer. I'm assuming you had at least ONE encounter experience with Verno so far, since you said it was nothing like Bankayas. You really need to time the backstep and you can basically iframe every mechanic Verno has.

On my 2nd tanking run against him, I only got hit once, and that was from the minion add he spawned near death. You can iframe the "Get Out" push back, the 4 slice pizza attack, the aoe that surrounds Verno, and obviously the wave and laser beam mechanic.

These are my tips for iframing and basically never have to need a heal in that fight.

"Get out" push back mechanic: You'll notice the green wave inhaling towards Verno, then his arms will raise, and his eyes will blink red. Turn your camera around (basically you want to backstep towards him) when you see the "Get out" message to prepare to iframe it. Your camera should see through the boss and you should see the eyes blink red. As soon as the red eyes disappear, press the backstep, and you should iframe it.

If you're standing in one of the 4 pizza slices, you'll notice two white bars going towards an arrow at the base of Verno. Right when the white bars are about to touch the middle arrow, backstep and you should iframe. I do this instead of having to move and avoiding the attack, it just waste more time.

The Aoe that surrounds Verno, I can't find a signal to timing it, so I just count to 2 secs after seeing the aoe telegraph and backstep.

The wave and laserbeam mechanic takes time to iframe it all the time. Easiest way for me to iframe the wave is turn the camera, step about 5-7 meters from Verno, as soon as he slams his ands (and you'll notice your screen will shake), I backstep.
  • Thank you so so much, I needed this for iframing very badly.
