Can someone explain me why archer will be mid~top tier after update?

Why 15% crit chance against monsters is bringing archers that much to the top? Is it a potential archer always had? Or people are running archers right now, and seeing that the class is good? Or is this new passive really more than it appears to me? I don't know, i don't think 15% is thaaaat much of a buff, but i'm no expert in the game... I'm quite noob actually, so, i'm asking you guys!

  • Archers are good right now, but the reason why this is such a huge buff is it's 15% for EVERYTHING. In comparison, most buff's happen to specific moves, which doesn't affect overall damage as much. A 25% buff to radiant arrow is good but that's only 1 damaging move, which usually pretty close in overall damage to Rain of Arrows.

This is one of those cases where a DPS meter is actually really helpful to put things into perspective. Usually in most dungeons I run an overall 50-60% crit (if the mobs are lvl 68 which most of them are.) That's with about ~360 crit rate. So now imagine that being 65-75% crit after the buff. That's a pretty big difference and why it's a good time to be an Archer.

One of the main reasons, new classes are so flipping OP is most of their skills have high crit build into them. Suddenly they give similar crit status to older classes and now it can sort of compete. Simple, simple.
  • Who play archer ? O.o

I think KTera players reported that their penetrating and radiant arrow crits around 90% of the time after the buff. Just to give you an indication of how monumental the crit buff really is.
  • Why do people complain about archers/sorc and all old classes? They are good, you people just play it wrong.

But...no one was complaining, and the OP was just asking for information/opinions on how effective 15% crit can be (which is actually quite awesome). Although I agree that a lot of the people complaining about old classes are playing the class wrong.
  • It won't be top tier, just average. Expect a 20-30% DPS increase (more 30% if you can use rapid fire), but other old classes receive good buffs as well. Gunner is still strong, reaper will be buffed too (lol) and ninja, well, ninja. At least we are much closer to reaper/gunnre.
The main problem is that the buff is mainly focused around Rapid fire which most player can't use, it was supposed to be RoA/Radiant tier, but above 50 ping, it won't be that good (and trash above 100)
  • radiant and rapid fire with this buff have around 90% of crit change penetrating maybe 55% cuz everytime i see the crit change of the penetrating is around 35/40%

not really archer have really problems of crit with 60+240 i crit like 35-45% and this sucks also the penetrating have around 35/40% of crit change rain 40/50% but must of the time is around 40% and why this is happening? becouse archer dont have crit change glyph the only 2 skills crit often is radiant and rapid fire but i dont use rapid fire with a yellow ping so i know only the crit change of the radiant around 60/70%

Oh man archers in PvP are going to hurt Dx
  • Ohhh i get it now. So I didn't realize that, in fact, i hadn't played the class myself. So that is a significant buff. About that rapid fire, its a skill just like Burst fire on gunners right? And the fire breath on ninjas? That is why people use macros on those skills?

I was mistaken then. To me, the difference between new and old classes was the solid damage on skills. But i did notice that my idoneal ninja was criting way more than my dread Slayer... Maybe these crit numbers should go a little up, like this buff on archer

@Starbuzz this passive just affect monsters. Will not have any effect in PvP.

Rapid fire and final salvo are a type of hold to keep shooting move. But, instead of having a set timer, it depends fully on ping. And if you watch comparison videos, the difference between pings is massive.

As for the buff. How I understand it is like this. Before, when there were only the vanilla classes, the game was a bit less crit dependent. Yes. Crits have always been around and people have always tried to make the most out of their crit chance. But most dungeons and bosses didn't have huge HP pools that required strict crit builds. Come the new classes and because devs wanted casuals to see big numbers (I guess) they get higher crit chance. Either on base CF or in skills, or in the form of crit chance glyphs. Now bosses get these huge HP pools and tight DPS checks (break shield phases and such) which force people into CF builds. Thing is, many vanilla classes were not properly updated to climb the CF train so we were seeing these classes doing less crits than the new stuff.

Personally I believe a game shouldnt depend so much on crit chance. A crit attack should be a bonus, rare occurrence. But seems more and more games want to please some players with the constant big numbers.

As always, my opinion. Saying it how I see it. :3

inb4 Super Crits becomes a thing, but yea I kinda wish crits where rare, the more they become the norm the less special they become, then something special has to be developed to replace that feeling bla bla snowball
  • In short, this buff will put great Archers towards the top, and all other archers in the middle. Biggest problem I see with Archers (or the players themselves) is lack of player skill and just being plain bad. You can throw 15% CR at an OK archer and they will still use poison arrow and attack from the front /side at 18m+ away. Even without the buffs I constantly get top dps with similarly geared or higher geared new/old classes. @op, +15% CR is a huge buff since crit rate is the only thing archers are missing right now.
