Ahhh you are correct. I did my math based on the 1 cata price without thinking the others were cheaper in bulk. That's still pretty damn expensive for a hat. Especially when that isn't like a confirmed yeah you are gonna get this item by this amount of tries. I could end up spending 300$ in the shop and never see the hat.
The entire event is mismanaged imo. They don't want people to sit and farm 3k+ of them like the last event which is understandable it did some pretty bad things to the economy. But making the only reliable way to obtain them (since this is an event) through the cash shop just looks like a money grab scheme to me.
They could of easily of put the boxes in the Open World again, but reduced their spawn times and the amount of Cata they dropped. One Cata per dungeon and only the top end dungeons just doesnt make this fun. An event is supposed to be fun for the community not feel like work. Or added them to the Vanguard Credit store, Belli store or KS store.
Then to make certain items untradeable on top of the massive list of things you can obtain makes the Cata you do have even less valuable.
