Is the Valley of Titans situation being swept under the rug?

I sent this message to our community manager, Spacecats on June 22:
"Hey Spacecats, Fuzzy.Wompkins here.

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. The server my friends and I play on, Valley of Titans, is in dire shape right now. The top 3 guilds which make up a majority of the active players have all left to Mount Tyrannas server with more leaving daily. My guild's strongest players are deciding to leave as well and pleading with me to come with them. I don't want to abandon my guild, Panda Hut Express. We don't have any skilled tanks on the entire server left to run Hard Mode dungeons. Our recruitment is going nowhere because there are no new active players to recruit. New players get to 65 and see that the server is dead. There are no groups capable of running end game content. There are no LFG's. The open world and major cities are empty.

The sad thing is many of my friends simply can't afford to transfer servers, nor can I afford to transfer all of mine (14). I don't want to abandon anyone and I don't want to abandon the server that I have been playing on since I started back in 2013.

I don't know what to do. Please help. Is there anything you can do?"

I am still waiting for a reply, but realize there is likely nothing Spacecats can do. It pains to me to see my server in such a sad state of decline. Since I made my plea, even more guilds have left. I'm struggling to keep my guild active and interested in Tera when the server community is so dead. If things keep up this way, pretty soon there will be no VoT.

Please EME, don't let this happen.

I wanted to make a new guild or make everyone join an existing guild to try to get ahead VoT.

The response from everyone I knew was very negative, and I had no other option than to transfer me.

I Waited a whole year (after the free transfer) in the hope that a GM's would do something, but no, not even as a joke not even mention the name of Valley of Titans.

The best thing they could do would be to unite VoT and LoT in a new server or merge them with MT.

I worry about this. I also have characters on MT and would need to delete all of them to make space for my VoT characters. Also, I would lose most of my names.

It is one of the reasons why a new server would be ideal.

The names come to be virtually irrelevant when you can no longer play due to the extremely low popularity.

    That's my point of view.

  • No VoT is what needs to happen, merge server and be done with it.

Server Transfer is still available, create a new character if you don't want to pay.

This is basically the same situation as the other HW thread. The endgame community has clumped itself onto the most-established servers, but just from a raw numbers point of view (considering casual and leveling players) population isn't so low overall as to justify a merge.

I guess you could argue that this is a side-effect of the game catering to more-and-more casual players over time -- the percentage of end-game players interested in hard mode content is only a small percentage of the overall player base, and likely not enough to spread over seven servers (particularly given the community's own preference to gather where others are gathered). Basically the only way to counter it would be to provide some sort of incentive for people to stay spread out, or at least not to "punish" being spread out (for example, cross-server LFG or something).

THIS. I wish this game's instance matching system could be more like Blade and Soul's.

Then you realize that people will still run with people who are in their own servers (who they can check their gear and skills, and can trade stuffs when needed too), and not accepting people from certain servers cause reputation (It happens in BG). Imagine why do people want to cross-server LFG, carry somebody, and the guy got the brawler/lancer design and you can't split sell it? And LFG problem don't solve the trade broker problem either.

Don't get me wrong. cross-server LFG is a good thing, but there're a lot of recoding and programming involved to get it to a realistic level.
  • @canikizu I see what you're saying and these issues would be resolved if all servers also shared 1 economy. We can always hope that these changes can be made. I'm trying to stay optimistic about Tera. I still love this game.
  • I've done various tracking of broker trends across the servers, and on that front I don't think it's actually all that bad. With a cross-server LFG, you could probably help people bloom where they're planted and increase supply of needed end-game items, without requiring a shared economy (which I think has some downfalls).

All this being said, I imagine the biggest barrier to the development of cross-server LFG is probably the fact that BHS's first answer would probably be "we already have this; it's called Instance Matching". This whole thing stems from the fact that players in North America don't trust the quality of players in matching and so want to form groups manually rather than leaving it to "chance". I'm guessing that the same dynamic may not happen to the same degree in Asian markets.
