Trade broker commission

I played this crappy p2w to the extreme mmo and I saw something interesting when I Sold something on their trade broker at the bottom of the message with the gold they send you it says that the system takes a 5% commission off my final price does tera do this as well and if they do why would the server/devs/system whatever need a 5% commission of currency in their own game?

you lose money when put the item on the broker (unless you are elite) and when you buy a item without negotiate.
  • I know that pretty sure it's to stop ppl crashing the economy idk why the buy now price pay more cuz the seller isn't on?

Whenever you turn in quests or dailies with a gold reward, the system 'creates' new gold to give you. This means there is gold constantly being created and put into the server's economy. If there was nothing draining that gold back out again at the same rate, there is this thing known as 'Inflation' that rapidly becomes a problem (and already is a problem in Tera). Basically the more gold everyone has, the less value it has. That's why people are selling innerwears for hundreds of thousands of gold- because people actually have that much and are willing to pay it. So you need a way to keep sucking the gold back out of the economy, to try and keep the prices of goods from constantly going up. I assure you that if Buy It Now had no additional cost then prices would be much, much higher.

There's a tax when you use the buy now option rather than the negotiate option. Not only does it serve as a gold sink but it rewards people for being online and actually playing as you get to sell higher or are more likely to sell something when you're online since the negotiate function only works when you're online. So if you're offline you have to list based around everyone else or have your item low enough to be equal or lower after the tax unless it's late at night. Other than the listing fee you (if you aren't Elite) yourself don't pay anything for selling items.

Yeah they need a method to remove gold from the game, however, the fact that elite players are exempt kinda defeats the purpose after the fact. Most of the people I see putting up items on the broker for large sums of money have elite, so the system kinda breaks down there. I mean it's kind of nice to give elite players a break but it does make it counterproductive as a method of getting gold out of the economy. It works just fine for those who don't have elite though.

We do need better gold sinks :/

While we do need better gold sinks there's 2 taxes when using broker, one for listing if you're not Elite and one for buying an item without negotiation, Elite is only exempt from the fee when listing and still has a 10% tax when not negotiating (15% if not Elite) so it's not entirely like Elite players don't "lose" some money, although it might not seem like much things would definitely be worse if Elite also didn't have to pay that extra from offline sellers.

Hey someone's gotta pay to keep the server running! =)

The advantages aren't baseless, so say if you pay for elite via subscription you keep the server running.

Negotiate saves makes a player who is online sell his item first vs someone who is on once a week, and so on.

This is also to limit the inventory. I'm a Elite subscriber and sometimes I put my stuff in the broker for unreasonable high prices (up to 50 slots), so no one buys my stuff. After 7 days, the brokerage is returned into my mail and there I can access it 1 month until deletion.

I only once was un/lucky and someone bought an overpriced item off me (it was some rare small cosmetic for .. 40-50k gold?). Guess I made a good deal but the buyer may thought also.
