Why does everyone mistake FPS for PING?

I will never understand this. Everyone seems to accuse servers for their FPS issues. Why? Low FPS is not the host fault. The only contribute. FPS is on the user end to control.

You could ask them why ¬.¬

because the word "lag" is shorter than the words "FPS drop". Also FPS drop is user-sided while lag can be shifted on primarily the publisher, the carrier or even the ISP. Of course playing via wifi with 3 other people blocking the whole bandwith with torrents and streams has absolutely nothing to do with it.

It's about BLAME, it's not about seeking solutions. Because seeking solutions would involve work.

On the note of graphics vs connection, there is a graphic setting that actually increases your ping by 10~20 for some reason.

Take it like a test, most likely those ones should people to shun, 'cause experts, you know. :p
  • I suffer both high ping and low fps putting the two together as "lag" works for me

That is exactly what I have been trying to tell people in my other game. Even my own mother, but I guess people don't want to accept the fact that their comps are simply obsolete now. I'm just surprised at the blaming publishers for their fps issues. lol Usually when I feel like i'm talking to a brick wall I point them to the Microsoft techs just so they can here the same thing.

Its also the publisher's job to make sure developers optimize their games, I have a nice machine with i7 4790k and GTX 970 and Tera still dips to 5-10 fps during fights in dungeons...

Guys you should check out this thread here. We have a guy that is getting like 120-140 fps =) Amazing build. He custom built his own comp. I so need to do some upgrades myself. But wow look at this!

  • 140 FPS in empty areas, ask him how amazing is having 20 FPS in dungeons with a high end PC.
  • canikizucanikizu ✭✭✭
I used to have like 20 fps in dungeons too, but when i switched from Window 10 back to Window 7, my fps jumped to around 60-130. Everybody i know that use window10 suffer low fps than people who use window7,8.

It's only for open world, so it's not really an issue, I believe it was one of the backgrounds. Before I moved having them all on in Island of Dawn had my ping at 50, turning them off made it go to 42. The up and down spikes also weren't as dramatic.

Most likely in towns and out of combat. Even I can get 100 fps with just a 3.9ghz 6600k, 8 gb ddr4 2700 and gtx 960.

Its the sky, thats what causes the lag in open world.

Ya have a high end rig to. Doesn't matter FPS will still bottom out just like his will in dungeon. Regardless hope he didn't build that to play TERA well because nothing WILL play it well. Not that you should need to build a $3000-$4000 rig to play a 5yr old Unreal3 game. I play Battlefront maxxed out, control panel setting maxxed out 40 player walker assault and get 120 fps with maybe a dip down to 100. TERA just baddie bad.

Well I can't speak on that. What I can say is I am wireless, I average on FPS between 16 and 30 fps with Tera alone and that is with maxed game settings. While on another game I have pretty much remained around 30-40 fps. For me I'm actually content with FPS as it is. I mean. It would be nice to have that kind of computer like he has, then I wouldn't have to go so slow in my game. Because I do like the detail and graphics of the game. It's very beautiful and the effects are awesome. Although I generally play on preset 1 when I am in a hurry. What's funny is I can play Warframe on max settings and wow the detail is amazing and my fps remains a steady 40.
