Why Must GM Filter Peoples Opinions?

  • Anything that has to do with flaws of the game they remove/edit. I agree to a point but to edit/remove all negative comments is very biased. Some of these posts are logical even though they aren't constructed in the best of ways they make sense.

It's constructive criticism in a childish set up.
All they have to do is to state their "constructive criticism" in a constructive manner. This forum is full of posts talking about "flaws of the game." Just because they may "have a valid point" doesn't given them a free pass to state it however they want, and that's really always what the issue is.

Requiring people to be respectful in how they state their negative opinions isn't censorship.

Pointing out a legit flaw should in fact give you a pass. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean act like a child and delete the post or edit it.

People don't play god in real life why do it on forums? Because you can? Is that a legit reason to ban/filter people? No it shouldn't be. You can't do that in real life. When someone expresses their opinion you can't delete their ideas because its something that doesn't benefit your mind set. So just like in real life, let people be themselves, the same should be applied to the internet.

The forum is private property. If I let you into my house and you start insulting me and my family, or if I let you into my office and you start insulting or verbally attacking my employees, I have every right to kick you out of my property. If people want to come to this forum and express their feedback on EME's forum in the hopes that EME will read it and consider it, they have an obligation to follow the ground rules EME establishes for how people need to behave themselves. And it's not even that unreasonable: just behave yourself respectfully. It's not like this is unique to EME's forums either; all private forums have rules that you agreed to follow when you join. It isn't "the public square" and it isn't a free-for-all. Being able to say whatever you want doesn't mean there won't be consequences.

You went to a whole different level of insults. No one is attacking people personally. That seems extremely personal. If im attacking cats cuz of his hairstyle or the style he prefers to dress in or his family. That is beyond f'd up. We aren't. We are talking about flaws the game has that can be improved and is within their reach.

No one is asking them to give us free gold. We aren't asking ( or at least not myself) to mail us free costumes. It's, " hey this part of the game is f'd up, can you guys fix it ", "hey lack of X can you guys do something about it ".

    Those are reasonable requests.

    Not necessarily.

Threads like that are posted all over this forum every single day and never edited or deleted, so long as they're stated objectively in a respectful manner.

If you think there's a legitimate concern and it got deleted because the person posting it couldn't control their temper, just restate in a respectful, constructive way that focuses on 1) what the problem is, 2) why it is a problem, and 3) what can be done to fix it. That's really all that's required.

EME has a presence as a company to uphold, along with legal responsibilities to follow.

Just like you can be kicked off private properties for protesting, you can be kicked off the forum as EME's discretion. If you really want to rant that much you can take it to reddit.

reddit is irrelevant. This is a forum, rants are relevant. Dont like it? Forums aren't for you.

Don't like the forum's rules? Then said forums aren't for you. You don't go into a country and start breaking laws because you think the laws are stupid, then complain when you get scolded/incarcerated.

Reddit is the place for extremely heated debate, it's relevant because those are the types of things that get removed from the forum. That or just excessive, non-constructive, NaCl.

Also, you are talking to a person that had a thread with over 100 upvotes and 100 replies that was removed. I am well acquainted with the system, and it's fine.

Are you really comparing expressing an opinion on forums to breaking the law?

Such a silly comparison. It's a thought, people aren't committing a crime. Please keep the comparison mild or at least remotely comparable.

You are breaking the law. You are breaking the TOS, and EULA when you signed up for the service of the forums(Which is a contractual agreement you made). EME could revoke your forum account (Ban) or Go after you for Damages (Loss of profit) due to your actions on the forum.

So yea, not a silly comparison.

I have had to do this before. So long as the mod tells you that the forum post needs to be edited. This way you don't lose the entire content of the post.
  • Well, thanks for the posts. Was interesting seeing many people's ideas on the subject. Hope GM read this and respect peoples thoughts because of it and if not then that is fine. sort of...

Thanks for not deleting the post, happy gaming...

Try making sure that your feedback/request is respectful and more importantly, reasonable. Not only will they be heard, but they'll be implemented in some form as well. See also: Dreadspire changes

Why? Let people express their opinions. Yes you dont agree, yes you completely disagree, yes it stirs the pot but its just that, an opinion and most understand that. So why filter the thoughts of people? Let people be people.

You all seem to only capitalize on positive opinions because, ofc, it benefits your business. Sometimes negative comments are just as beneficial.. Let it be, let people be people. This isn't a day care. If people are complaining its for a very good reason, it's not because they want to be whiny attention feigning losers.

No one will take any valid criticism seriously if the person posts like a child throwing a tantrum.

I'm closing this thread because it goes against multiple forum rules, notably discussion of moderation and non-TERA discussion in the General Discussion forums (but that's kind of a given since every comment about moderation isn't discussing what we should be discussing: the game). I'm not going to delete it because there have been more than a couple comments left by people lately about moderators deleting, suspending, and banning people for expressing their opinions, and I want everybody to know that this isn't the full story and that if content has been removed, there's good intentions behind that decision.

If a comment is deleted, it's because it broke the forum rules (or maybe quoted someone who did). Everyone who posts here is expected to read these rules and adhere to them, and if someone doesn't do that then they risk having their content and account moderated in some way. There is almost always a private message given which not only states why the content was moderated, but gives an example or quote of that content so there's no confusion. There are some rare cases where a user doesn't get a message - usually because their account has been banned, suspended, or is under review to be possibly banned in the near future. At times when a user is banned, all the content they ever posted can be deleted in one go. Please don't get banned.

When comments are deleted, they don't show up in a user's history. So when you search around looking to find out why someone was moderated, that's why. It's gone.

So... I've never done this, and I don't plan to ever do it again because I feel like the Forum Rules speak for themselves, but here's a small sample of content I've personally removed over the course of the past two days. This will give you some idea of what content is being "silenced." In some cases these comments were mixed in with feedback about something a player didn't like. Everything gets removed. If you're concerned that 50% of your post is useful feedback that should stick around and helps improve TERA, stop breaking forum rules and turn that 50% into a 100% so you don't risk moderation.

I'm not going to name the people who posted these comments. If any belong to you, please keep it to yourself and see the message I gave you in your warning.
    • Screw this im out biches imgonna go end my self
    • This patch is the end of tera NA really
    • ur words r stupid
    • I role play as America killing innocent people in the middle east
    • shut the F UP! Your brawler a** don't gets rights to complain here
    • HW being a server full of trash... I can say anything I want about Enmasse here completely uncensored.

Keep in mind that these aren't just examples where people just crossed the line a tiny little bit. These are way beyond the line, and less severe comments will still be moderated if they break the forum rules.
