My own sin on archer is not using RF and TB too often. Sure my ping is normally around 100, so RF may be a little slow. But yeah. I should make it an habit to use it a little more often.
  • I have an archer, second main.
And i did notice a difference.
My current gear is dreadnaught, simple keen brooch with all crit rolls, corvette ring, earing and cutter necklass mix with a shadowvain ear ring and ring. bringing it up to 211 crit factor.
I have the system chat open so i could see how much the radiant crits/does damage. Holy crap it's insane. Most of the time my radiant does 2-5 mils crit hits.
However because i have a poopy computer I can't get me slaughter gear lol. Not sure how much more damage i can do with slaughter.

I third main Archer. Even with 172 bonus crit rate, and PvP rolled +12 SF weapon, I finish IoD BAMs with ease in 10-12 minutes. This passive makes a HUGE difference! <3
  • Ran SSHM yesterday and was pulling 1.1-1.3mil/s (SF+15) on all bosses with 70-75% CR (+264 crit with mystic). This buff was exaclty what Archers needed.... basically the ONLY thing we were missing in our kit. chances are if you're not critting its because you're trying ti hit a turning bam who's "Back" or "side" isnt where it actually looks like, since a BAM's :back" doesnt move from the original position until the animation is completly done. ie if you're behind a bam and it turns around, if you go to the new "back" and release your arrow before the BAMs animation finishes, you're actually hitting the front.
  • As a new player I found the archer to be the most un-user friendly. He dies a lot more, and cant move about as well, without doing as much damage as the Sorc. He simply isnt effective against the special hunt mobs, and died constantly, while I was able to kill them with the warrior and the sorc. Something I dont like about this game is the "hold down the button and drag the mouse over targets to lock on...". That's just a total PIA iwith several skills requiring that mechanic. I thought perhaps the archer was designed to use with controllers more.
  • I seen lately archers doing 100-200k less damage than ninja's which is better than reapers/gunners atm. Brawlers still do as much or sometimes even more depending on how good the brawler is.

That buff must have helped a lot.

I also play with a controller and until I got used to the targeting mechanic it was kind of a pain. At least archer has only one of those, while sorc has 5. I personally found archer much easier to play than sorc. But I understand different people find different things easy or difficult.

    Few things to point out
Firmbrisk is most annoying type of bams to fight against in IoD in my opinion especially for burst DPS classes like archer, sorcerer and berzerker. They react so fast so it is really hard to stick from behind. They also often randomly trample over you cause staggers and knockdowns.

Archer doesn't need to overcharge. Full overcharge deals 1.4x damage than full regular charge for both radiant and penetrating arrow. Meanwhile Berzerker's overcharges scale 2x.

If you want to farm vanguard quests in IoD. Play brawler, mystic instead. Archer and sorcerer are 2 most frustrating classes to deal with these bams.

As others have mentioned, IoD BAMS have more crit resist, so its best to test (rotations skills, etc) on other BAMS (I usually go for teraliths near highwatch-they have slow start animation-). Like Nopi said, check if you actually bought the passive. With the passive, Rapid fire practically crits 95% of the time from behind. I have slaughter gear with +209 crit (269 with base), and do around 2M-2.5M with it from the back when boss is enraged. Make sure you have the proper crystals and rolls. This buff was meant to increase our dps, not dmg. We will still be doing the same dmg and crit dmg, but we will crit more often and thus more dps. Personally I've seen a big change with the buff, of course I'd like more but I'm happy with what I got.

I have a foto of a meter result we got in One-eyed Jack from WH (don't have time right noe to edit picture), not counting the healers i was 5th place out of the 7 dps, and having done 13% dmg done| 70% crit chance| 944k dmg/s. The other dps above me were a ninja, brawler, zerk, sorc and they did 20%,16%,15%,14% dmg done respectively. So you see, the diference in %'s from dmg aint that far off. And I'm not the best geared archer out there. So I'd say were in a balanced spot right now.

On a side note, that 70% I got is from the sum of all skills used during the fight. It does NOT mean i have 70% chance to crit on each individual skill. Some skills ahve crtic modifiers on them/higher chance to crit (e.g. RF). Meaning some skills will still not crit as often but the buff helps. This is a prob lancers have on wallop that hardly crits.

I think, DPS classes are all about same except Ninja. Ninja is still too OP.

Maybe Zerker is slightly lower dps and then another.

Yeah. Ninja is still way OP. I came back to the game for a bit to test the double cut reset rotation, and even with all the derps (because it's much more trickier for me to pull due to gamepad) I was still doing insane dps. It baffled me. In my short return I also did some IoD farming with warrior and archer, and I'm pleased with their current dps. These classes feel... correct. No stupid high dps. Not abysmal either.

My friend's archer has +240 CF with a mystic but he had a 75% crit rate. On my zerk I have to have +250 cf on my own and then have a mystic boosting me past +300 to get anywhere near at 75% crit rate, and even then I fall short sometimes. Crits were what archers complained about most vocally, and crits were evidently what got fixed. Keep at it, I guess is what I mean to say. I know people who never considered trying archer until now, and they all love it. So don't give up yet, amigo.

My friend was doing 75-85% crit % in different bosses in Uppers.
    Filthy.

Between this, and the mystic "quality of life" buffs I really get the sense that BHS actually doesn't know how to balance a class without overdoing it. I'm not judging them; obviously it's a difficult process. But sometimes it feels like they just throw random ideas at us, instead of thinking about how a 15% flat crit boost to archers would affect their overall DPS and the general sense of fairness among classes who have to spend insane amounts of gold on crit gear only to never ever approach 85% crit rate because they don't have a ridiculous buff effortlessly boosting them.

In the end I guess it's all a consequence of changes in the development team across the years, new people arrived and tried to balance things out but it became evident they didn't really understand how the classes worked, they just thought they did. When the gunner was being launched the devs said they were planning to turn archers into "ranged berserkers", they tried to give some crit rate first so it felt "rewarding" to use charged shots and such but it really made little difference. This change we have now is actually the updated version, originally they buffed the crit factor for archers and people with DPS meters showed the devs either lied or simply didn't really know what they were doing.
