Tera Optimization Problems and EME call
So, we're all players that like playing tera , and more than that, we are playing that like having a fluid and enjoyable gaming experience. I've been playing Tera for years, and following the hardware advance through it, and indeed is a big advance when it comes to the 'brute force' of them. But what we can see now, and this is pretty obvious for all of us, no matter what hardware you have, the least thing you will have is a fluid experience during dungeons. I mean, i've seen ppl with expensive CPU, overclocked CPU, since Tera by its nature is CPU bound, and all they get is a terrible low 30's 40's fps, sometimes even stuttering when the effects are too much, and if you check the frametime, makes it even worse. And there is people that come to us to say: you should be doing this, that, check that guide and modify all your game files in order to 'maybe' get a fluid experience, and even so, that isnt seen. If some of you check some tests around youtube, is possible to see strong CPU's like 6700k or 4790k barely being used, and together with that, a GPU being even less used, and lags going to hell when you must have a total fluid gameplay. I've seen people leaving because of it, i left because of it many times.
BHS and EME only throw us content and more content and i barely see anything or nothing at all being said or discussed about the consequences of this content, performance wise, and besides that, there is a new revamp or remake of the Sorcerer, and there was a video released from Korea presentation, and its clear the performance problem during the casting of the skills alone by the Sorc, and i bet no one here wants to have your screen freezing everytime a spell is casted, which already happens here sometimes for a lot of people.
Probably this post will be deleted or ignored, but i want to call all of you, specially EME employees, to have a talk about it, discuss all the kind of performance problems and more than that, press the EME and BHS to do something about it, because its not acceptable for any game, specially a 2012 game , being so poorly optimized, having poor performance and bad playing experience and just be left as it is like always had been done.
Thank you if you read all of it.

In the words of a famous philosopher, "WTF, mate?"
Sadly, seems like they ignore it very often, and i've heard as well they just dont want to optimize it and leave as it is, which is very sad and unprofessional
Here's the AMA you're referring to:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TeraOnline/comments/4drzmx/im_sam_kim_interim_ceo_of_en_masse_entertainment/
As for the [filtered] thing, it was a single joke question and all Sam said was "No...that's a bit too spicy for me."
Optimization is a topic that gets brought up every once in a while and it's not something En Masse is able to address outside of a Customer Support role. The game is created and developed by Bluehole, and any optimization and coding updates will be made on their end when they feel it's needed. For our part as the publisher, we regularly send player feedback to Bluehole and this topic is no exception. Unfortunately there isn't anything more I (or Sam) can say about it.
As for why Sam didn't address optimization questions during his AMA, there were a lot of great questions and only so much time to answer them. Sam did his best to give as many meaningful answers as he could. That doesn't mean the questions that didn't get answered were deemed unworthy of attention.
I understand the work EME and you guys down here specifically are doing and some of us are really thankful for it. But please also understand the state this game is in from a system perspective. In short words, and understanding how hard is to make a game, but still, the game program is a royal mess. It reminded me of those horrid Sega Dreamcast ports of well functioning games(on other consoles) that were butchered by Microsoft Windows CE. Heck. Slave Zero was one fine example of a wreck there. I still remember the 2 fps at last boss in that game. Sounds similar to Nexus and bam spam events here?
I say it here freely to you because I know you are not one bit responsible for what happened behind the graphics and I hope to think that you also know that in this case the sky cannot be covered with one hand. It's as if the devs simply went the way of making everything so pretty they basically forgot the game needed to run on a computer other than theirs. Now, Tera is a beautiful game, and in a sense, around the first at bringing AAA game visuals into the MMO scene. Before Tera, MMOS had only glorified PS1 graphics. But thing is, other games from the time of Tera were as beautiful without writing a death sentence to whatever PC that had the misfortune to have to display it. And even to this day, 2016, where computers may be nearly double the power of 2012 stuff, this game still locks up for a second or two in many computers out there when bringing up the UI.
On the other hand, I doubt this game with it's age deserves an expensive, resource hogging full optimization from a business point of view. So for the most part while I hold hope of a better performing game, I shouldn't toss aside the reality of where this game is at the moment. Still, we all will view with good eyes any effort from BHS to make the game more playable, and from EME to keep at it, poking BHS's eyes with the subject every now and then. Because at the end of the day, a better performing game is a game that will run in more computers owned by potential money spenders.
I couldnt have said better. I mean, not everyone has the wallet to buy such expensive stuff to buy the lastest hardware just to have a chance to maybe run at 20~30 fps during very hard dungeons. Most of people have average and maybe old pc's, but i think there is time to put some work on optimizations instead of contents and more contents , so more people can enjoy it, since more people will be able to play the game, and eventually, bring new people to spend money here. It has everything to make it a very good way, just need the necessary effort. I am honestly tired of dying because i cant spell skills in time because stuttering or very low fps or not be able to fully enjoy the newer hard dungeons because of the performance.
the problem is the games engine. EME can't do crap about that, hell i don't even think BH can do anything about that. have you ever developed a game that went on to last as many years as tera has? Unreal Engine 3 is quite old.
we are basically asking bluehole to do the following:
I want to represent the community here, please send to the BlueHole studios that the game must be optimized as soon as possible, we do not need to downgrade the textures or distance, the issue persists even with everything on low, the game just draws unecessary resources from our PC, it makes the game sometimes un-fun (having 15 fps, especialy solo with a beast PC build that can play the newest games feels unfair).
Please consider to tell them that this issue has been complained about constantly and that it is recommended to make an action, it has been long enough that I tried to play the game over and over, as well as my friends and fail to max it with our new pc builds, other than that the game looks awesome (sad that we cannot experience it at its fullest).
Thanks
Upgrading game engine and adding an 64bit client would also help a lot to add up.
Uhm... yes. I am a programmer all you would have to do is redo some basic code. I was going through some of it with some friends today, and boy, did BHS screw up some event codes for certain music events. lol.
The real question is, will they actually spend time to do it? :^)
@YamiDenis I've been playing Tera for 3 years waiting for a optimization and it never happened, also EME always say the same thing about it. All that we know is that they are sending our feedback to BHS and is just it. To be even better, whenever BHS makes a Q&A and someone ask about optimization, they always use the same excuse. This is one of topics that BHS and EME aren't very transparent...
So it's better for you don't have any hope in that, also if you compare the requirements to play TERA in this and this page, you'll realize that they increased it. This doesn't look like action that a developer/publisher would take if they have any interest/hope in the game optimization.
@Spacecats as publisher, its En Masse that should be pushing for Bluehole to optimize Tera. Players have given a lot of feedback about optimization issues and feedback would be useless if it just gets ignored by developer.
Spacecats, I've just now seen this post and I wanted to clarify something.
When we ask something like this, and it doesn't get answers, it makes us dissatisfied because we have sources like Story and LoririrWHATEVER that can confirm Ktera gets optimizations. Hell, before our UI got overhauled someone patched some of the Ktera client's stuff over for us.
So when we know that these things exist, and EME makes no announcements on it ever coming out or answering questions about it, it dismays us because we don't get any information. You should be in our corner, but it seems like EME has no weight with BHS at all. When EME sends people to meet with BHS about upcoming information, how can EME not ask this question and get a response? Do they ignore you? Is the answer "we have no plans to bring this over" and you feel like this would make us unhappy, so you never bring it up?
EME does a great job with handling our experience with the aspects of the FTP model compared to a lot of publishers in NA, but what you don't do great and you've never satisfactorily answered why is how repeatedly we express things we desire to you and theoretically you pass this onto BHS, but BHS never seems to really do anything regarding them. Why is it after years of publishing TERA in NA and receiving constant feedback from players has EME gotten basically nothing achieved in terms of content/classes/outfits, when Nexon KR became a new publisher and forced BHS to address class balance to the point where they received buffs and nerfs over the last few months, then a total revamp of all the original classes? Why hasn't EME gotten a straight answer such as "yes, we will make a male locked class eventually" out of BHS? This sort of thing could be listed all day and take up ten more posts easily, but let's end it at this.
1. What is EME doing to clarify BHS's responses to our requests and make it easy to discover this information?
2. What steps are BHS taking or are in the process of taking to address the desires of the NA playerbase?
2a. Will the six months behind schedule ever shorten?
2b. Will BHS take steps to prevent disasters like the FIHM patch delay from happening again, and what will they be?
2c. Will we ever get similar cosmetic content geared to our interests like the Japanese servers?
2d. Will patch notes stop failing to include content such as the priest/mystic iframe buffs?
2e. Is BHS aware that in much of the world is not equivalent to
3. What system will you or the player council implement so that these responses from BHS are known relatively soon after EME receives the information? Or will we have to continue asking about every individual issue to receive any updates?
Thanks for your time.
