Game optimziation in near future?

Comments

  • Yeah it is that simple to optimize a game if they do it step-by-step, I would gladly give up 3 patches of content for 3 patches of optimization.
    I would still keep playing.
Besides, I own a new pc worth aprox. 2500$ and cant play this game while I can play BnS, Black desert and any other game on ultra.

Yes the Ui adds up 20+ fps usually.
There should be a way to fix this. I usually do the most common optimization fixes that are uploaded online but the problem still persist.

Remember I'm an old player too. I got into computers in around 1998-99, but been around gaming since the early 80's. So we lived through the gaming industry big crash (I forgave ET though).

About maintaining a computer, I prefer to go manual. I use a minimalist AV because big AVs are not only huge on resource hogging but also give a lot of false positives and are simply a bad experience to me overall and you shouldn't play a game with such a thing on. Much less into "active protection" mode which is the biggest resource hog ever invented by man. I go for regular scans instead using stuff like MalwareBytes and mind where I go on the Internet. Another part of maintaining is to make sure whatever programs you install don't keep adding "Start with OS" crapola that slows down start up and general use. (I don't have Java because of that. I install it if I need it once in a blue moon, then uninstall it). If you have a spin drive. As in non SSD, regular but not so frequent defrags are a good idea. Registry defragging also works to speed up things a lil bit. For that I use Wise Registry Cleaner.

Anyway, just like your car needs maintenance, like oil changes and cleaning, your computer also requires some maintenance as well. it's the difference between being able to play games, or having a lot of issues when trying to.

Pretty sure it's also EME's fault for refusing to license the newest version of Scaleform, rumor has it that KTERA's client works better than ours because BHS has licensed the new version of Scaleform and updated it, but EME hasn't.

I'm sure that's not the case. EME doesn't license any of the technology; it's all provided and integrated by BHS. There's no way that BHS would embed and maintain two different versions of core technology. There have been cases in the past where it seemed like the string localization process was adding lag for some people compared to the original Korean strings, but that doesn't seem like an issue with Scaleform tech as much as it does with implementation approach (which would, again, be on BHS).

(And, incidentally, even in K-TERA that have been recent complaints related to optimization, so it isn't a NA/EU/RU unique issue either.)

How did you even achieve 200+ fps in tera?
(Also it would screen tear if you did but its bearable)
    What miracles did you do?

well here is a video i just did to answer you LOL

Well I don't run Norton if that's what you mean by bloated AV...
I use ESET and Malwarebytes Pro (active protection on both).
I limit startup programs to only the ones that I actually use or need, the only add-on I use for browsing is adblock, and I've deleted a lot of the junk that came pre-loaded with my computer.
Java I do have because certain websites require it, though I have Windows 8.1 which I believe only runs Java when you tell it to...?
I do have a spin drive and it's set to autodefrag itself once a week.
And I use CCleaner for deleting cookies and temp junk, and for the occasional registry clean.

Other than that, every few months I dust off the cobwebs and such that accumulate around the tower's air vents... am I missing anything?

Dunno what ESET is, and I don't use active protect on malwarebytes. I learned long ago from a Russian guy who's a professional and has written some of the most complete optimization guides out there for many operating systems, that a computer runs better when manually maintained and the user is mindful of their internet activities. PLUS, one shouldn't have two active protections on at the same time. Not if both programs are doing a similar task. Anyway, try running Tera without the AVs on and see if there's any improvement in dps. You won't receive any malware for playing a game without an AV on. In fact, most of the more dangerous malware still needs the victim's input. That's why phishing is still so common.

As for Java, it does run when Windows tells it to. Well, the main part, but both the service and it's updater keeps running forever in the background with absolutely no way to turn them off. Quite a few programs, (AdobeARM I'm looking at you too) do this because in fact it's better to have the latest update of those since hackers are always looking for ways to exploit them. Still, all these things add up and game performance degrades. So I chose to install Java on demand. I've hardly ever needed it for much so ever since I got rid of it two years ago, I've needed it around 3 times only.

Weekly defrag is way too soon. While defrags are good in essence, doing it too frequently is bad for the drive, which has a motor and plates that get ground out. Also your drive is vulnerable when defragging. If power goes out, you may lose data. I'd say monthly, or even two months if you don't add, remove or generally move too much data around on your PC as fragmenting happens when creating, copying, editing+saving or moving data. If you actually do move a lot of data, then yes, a weekly or bi weekly defrag may be in order.

    ESET NOD32 antivirus http://www.eset.com/us/search-brand-eav/?CMP=knc-inmkt-Google-G|S-US-BR-C-NOD32|B&gkw=eset%20nod32&gcr=79977430887&gcp239429967&gag=23327925567&gpl=&gclid=CODYxqud8s0CFQcxaQodJO4PpQ

It had good reviews at the time that I got it. Seems to work fine.

I know it's not good to run two AVs together but I figured ESET was AV whereas Malwarebytes is anti-malware (I know, semantics; but MWB seems to catch things that ESET doesn't and vice versa). I haven't had any issues from running them both together. I am mindful enough of my internet usage to not download suspicious stuff but I'm also aware that you can pick up malware from simple internet browsing without downloading anything at all... sometimes I do occasionally browse to "less than safe" sites (don't judge me!)

Anyway, as far as I know, neither ESET nor MWB actively runs while I'm gaming (and ESET at least has a "gaming mode" - I tested it and saw no noticeable performance difference when using it). The programs only seem to run / scan / update when TERA isn't running or when I minimize the game (I usually play in full screen).

I'm not a fan of Java, but like I said, some websites require it, and it gets annoying having to redownload it every time I need it.

Weekly defrag is probably excessive for me since I really don't move data around very often. It just happens that my computer was preset to run it that often and I haven't messed with it. I've had my computer for almost 4 years now and while it is definitely sub-par when it comes to gaming (it was never intended to be a gaming machine in the first place so that's my own fault, it doesn't even have a graphics card), the PC itself has never given me any problems. It's quiet, low temp, no blue screens or any other reasons to make me suspect an issue. It's just... really crappy at running TERA, and lacks the minimum requirements to run most other modern games.

why are you running any protection at all?! do you deliberately go to shady websites??? i run no protection with defender disabled. no router firewall no windows firewall. NOTHING. i maybe run a malwarebytes manual scan every so often and it finds NOTHING.
i'm just going to have to take a break from these forums... maybe reddit too. i'm surrounded by the dumb. its everywhere. and i'm not attacking you greywolf dude person thing... its just something i see everywhere, people doing things that.... they think is standard practice... stuff... words... i can't formulate what i'm trying to say in my head with text right now.
i'm just going to spoil this out, i've read this over and over and i'm just being an [filtered] for no reason. sorry

if i had a [filtered] computer i'd run the same way i'm running now with a high end pc. no protection. no backing up [filtered]. nothing running in the background if its not needed. minimal and sleek but still hella unorganized, my desktop is a MESSS lol

That is true and in the latest live stream they said that they are looking on how to do so.
Which is the reason I posted the forum thread in the first place. The kTera works a lot better although even there, they believe the game should be optimized even more. Just pressing Ctrl+Z gives you a 15-40fps boost situationally.

Actually there are plans to license it in the very near future as said above, they want to do so and they might as well.

Anyway all I have to say about the protection programs and the cleaners is that they do some work but either way for me they do not really make much difference, malwarebytes can find most of the malwares, ccleaner can clean most of the junk on my pc, defrag....lol I have SSD so, nope and ESET is trash most of the time but one of the best out there along with bitdefender and similar status softwares. Everything you do, just do it in Safe-Mode.
  • LOL you joking with safe-mode right?

Not really but this is out of subject,
yes you are able to remove the majority of them just by installing in safemode and scanning, but no one really wants to do that so... moving on.
Formatting is always the best solution.
  • Anyway I may not be a game technician but at least I know this is possible and that it should be done to bring about more people into the game, having half my friends just drop it because it is unplayable for them with decent PCs is only logical.
Think of it as an investment rather than anything else, and the point of my 5$ investment is to help kickstart the project, or at least they add a promotional set or something of sorts to make us help them bring the project to life, its been so many years and the game feels like an alpha in this aspect, even games in beta run better.
I wish for a better future for this game because I love it and wish for it to be reborn as a whole greater experience for everyone and with great success.
Also I believe ENMASSE is the only one who will actually be interested on suggesting it, I truly hope that is the case and I only care of the chances, not the denying facts of you all speaking nonsense about the 0 possibility of thsi happening because many companies have tried to appeal by rebooting a game or even a whole franchise, some failed and others succeeded, not in mmorpg games only but generally all around.
I for once Wished to create a thread about this and bringing what we think tot he table, if you think they will not do anything then you are being directly toxic to the rest of the community who truly wants this to happen. It is not just a dull dream to make the game run great and look great, it is something much more.
I remember in some streams seeing people calling about the game being optimized, now is the time to say it openly and not care about what the company actually does, rather state what you want,
so starting from here and now,

I want the game to be optimized and run smoothly to enjoy the experience Tera can offer to me and my friends.

Each of you call what you want in the game in a logical manner, everything is possible, I have been part in almost every possible alpha a player could have entered, because I like games and play as much as I am able to, some games fail to deliver their promises and others succeed greatly.
