Noob Gear Question

This has been confusing me for a while and I've been here for a year, lol.

What gear corresponds to the "VM" numbers? I hear people throw around terms like VM7, VM8, then there's talk of a new set... but people also refer to Starfall, Slaughter, etc.

I guess I'm just wondering what each of them is and why we interchange the terms at all?

I'm also curious how good the new 'Lilith' armor will be compared to Slaughter, which I finally just finished enchanting...

    VM = Vision maker, the first set of Endgame gear was named Vision maker. etc etc Vm1 - 7

    Vm5 is Lucid
    Vm6 is Starfall
    Vm7 is Imperator
    Vm8 is (Idk yet)

    Correct me if I'm wrong.
  • VM5: Lucid
    VM6: Starfall (SF)
    VM7: Imperator

    Other sets like slaughter and dreadnaught, are low to mid tier sets.

    Each gear set has it's name at the bottom of their description page (when you hover your cursor over their icon)
    VM stands for Vision Maker, and the community has given them numbers. I forgot the names of VM1 through 4. So
    VM5 = Lucid. Tier 7 (correct me if I'm wrong on the VM number with this one)
    VM6 = StarFall = Tier 9
    VM7 = Imperator = Tier 10
    Slaughter is not VM gear. It's instead current Mid tier gear. It's Tier 9. The previous mid tier gear becomes low tier gear. That denomination now falls to Dreadnaught Tier 8 gear.
  • I see, so Slaughter and Dread aren't VM sets at all. Interesting. I wonder if Lilith will be?

    Does it being a VM set make it any different than the others, i.e. are they the only ones that can be awakened?

    Lilith will be the new Slaughter set, and Slaughter will be the new Dread. Dread will just suck. lol
  • I s2g, every time I get fully enchanted a new mid-tier above the one I just finished comes out.

    RAGE.

    Current VM sets can be awakened and go to +15. They also give more stat lines. Non VM gear go only to +12 and cannot be awakened. Other differences is that VM gear must be crafted. People don't need any crafting proficiency, but they do need to do a quest to be able to awaken gear. At least from what i understand. I have never interested myself into any sort of VM gear.

    VM stands for Visionmaker, which was the original BiS crafted gear back in Manaya's Core days. Every top-end crafted set since then despite its real name was nicknamed VMx, the number x being whatever iteration was current at a given time and there was one for PVE and one for PVP before they were merged. Imperator, the current top end gear, is VM7. VM2 was Nightforge. VM3 was Archetype/Advantaged, VM4 was Generation/Renegade, VM5 is Lucid/Tensus, and VM6 is Starfall.

    RAGE.

    You and me both. You and me both.

    Doncha love spending a fortune on enchanting/ MWing / rerolling mid-tier then suddenly a new set comes out and now your "mid tier" is low tier trash and super easy to MW / enchant? I think BHS is trying to tell us that we should just suck it up and go for VM.

    That's what it feels like. It's really frustrating. :/

    When starting new in the game as a new 65, a player should farm pretty much double mats. One portion of those mats go to the current gear, the rest goes into bank. When new patch and gear comes, players then use that storage to get geared fast, and farm to re-fill storage for next patch. Rinse and repeat.

    Yeah that works fine for 1 character... but when you have 15 characters...

    I had over 100 fails trying to masterwork my main's Slaughter gloves (before I wised up and bought some blessed scrolls).

    I know, it's my own fault for having too many characters. There is no known cure for my hopeless Altitis. I'm sure if I just focused on one character, I could probably have the best gear for that character.

    But what fun would that be? =)
