  • In the process of just upgrading my machine right now also. I'm a horrible budgeter and saver, but leaving home for 6 months sort of forces me to save money, as long as I don't find myself wandering to a wonderful, yet cursed place called Amazon, aka the money sink.

I think since I've been away from home, I've spent more money on car parts, but I do plan on also upgrading my PC. Don't care much for cosmetic enhancements, since I pride my car for that, but OP has a sharp-looking rig for sure. I just need to find about 500$ aside to replace my current Motherboard, CPU, and cooling.

    Currently running:
    nVidia GTX 690
1st Generation Intel Core i7 Overclocked to 3.8GHz
    12 GB DDR3 RAM
    240 GB SSD

I'm still away from home, but I have since purchased new parts, and am VERY EAGER to replace them.
    nVidia GTX 1060
    512 GB Samsung SSD
  • 1st generation i7? yeah you could go all out to a z170 build or just step up to a ivy bridge or haswell build to save some scratch and you'd still be ahead in terms of performance. i'd just go with the haswell / devils canyon route if i were you... although z170 motherboards and cpus are equalized in price. maybe a scarcity of z97 boards and cpus is just making "upgrading" to the previous best at this point a null in the savings department unless you get used parts.
