The New Mount...

... has been bothering me for a while. It's called a llama, but it resembles an alpaca far more than a llama.

I understand that they may be easy to confuse, but they are different animals. I just had to get this out of my system.
Alpacas all the way~!

I come from a country that has both animals. I seen them both in real life and i know the difference. The main differences in betwen, as you can see in the picture, are the fur, and the ears. Llamas ears are a bit longer than Alpacas.

The current mount is a monster combination of both animals :S It has the fur of an alpaca, but the ears of a Llama. Creepy.

  • THANKS!!
i was feeling the same way
  • Llamas and Alpacas both come from the same Family. Cele please -.-
  • yeah theyre alpacas but i guess not everone knows what an alpaca is and eme thought it'd be simpler to just nme them llamas
  • Hmm, very interested thread, but what about artistic freedom?
Keeping in mind the artistic freedom, llama can be llama or alpaca easily.

Not everyone knows what a llama is either.
Doesn't matter to me what you call them, to me they're just ugly. Or food.

This is why I will never understand you humans. Those things are so similar yet have different names. Then take dogs, and..... they are all called DOGS.

Humans are so weird. Getting upset over llamas vs. alpacas. Yet Great Danes and Chihuahuas are both called "dogs". When clearly one is a large canine and the other is just a large rodent.
  • I believe they just use them as race names, like we already have for dogs (Chihuahua, Husky, Shiba Inu, you name it) as @TheGreyWolf already said
Alpacas and llamas can breed and produce fertile offspring, just like those dog races, which makes them, by our rules of biology, the same species. And just like the animal group "dog" there is the animal family "camelidae" which includes both llama and alpaca

Aha! Camelidae. Same group that dromedaries belong to. I knew I saw a familial resemblance.

Also, donkeys and mules are equines. So let's just call them horses.

  • They are from the same family, but different species. Consider it a wonder of genetic engineering of tera :)
