More Elins mean...
Ughh...
Gotta get the freaking +15 weapons on all roles...
sigh...
Part of this project is porting the game to UE4, and in so doing they should be able to address many of the performance issues of the current engine. If they successfully complete this project, I think it's quite possible the UE4 version may eventually replace the current UE3 version on PC. So I think this is likely part of their "strategy" for optimizing the game for PC as well.
From past experience playing as a tank, healer, dps using a 360 controller
PVE wise i see no problems. My current main is a brawler and i never had issues tanking things like FIHM, SSHM and such. As a healer/dps i havent attempted the latest set of hm dungeons but based on past experience i believe it would be fine.
PVP wise i can see how a PC player has an advantage. Sometimes i wish i could make my cursor movement or camera speed faster. I dont see this as an unbridgeable gap though as i have done fairly well in duels at Velika outskirts and have been the top scorer in FWC & CS matches. Well i guess brawler is a little op *cough*
I do have concerns though,
One of the xbox 360 mmo's i used to played was Phantasy Star Universe. This game ran into a few issues, had a major decline and eventually died.
As a controller player there are a few things that i wished could be fixed/changed. One example deals with the elite nostrum and talisman trio. Currently if i add these to the shortcut tray for the controller and decide to use them they will freeze the game up for a short period of time. Because of this i have to click them manually which is slower and makes me sometimes hit the Ghillieglade tele scroll which is op in dungeons. Once you hit it, gg, you cant hit out of it.
If this ever comes out and it is crossplatform i wonder if Tera would incorporate voice chat into the game. Having only xbl or playstation online exclusive chats would be weird. Anyway this is just my spur of the moment thoughts/opinions on this from my past experiences with a controller. I would love to have more ppl play the game, but im not here to argue with people on the forums opinion wise or how it should/should not be.
As for the game on consoles, there's one key item that game pad users have that usually mouse+KB users don't have or don't like to use. Aim helpers. Here in tera, the ranged classes still need some aiming to deliver some skills. Not as precise as a first person shooter but the need to aim at a general position still remains. I wonder if the console port will have any sort of helper (hopefully toggable).
Now, I'll be frank. There might be some keyboard adapter thing out there for console gamers. I don't honestly know; I don't play console games anymore. I just hope we don't get a wave of players who literally can't communicate. Or, god help us, forced voice integration so that we're all being yelled at by beefy castanics voiced by prepubescent 12 year olds on xbox live paid for with mummy's credit card.
First, keyboards have been supported by consoles properly since the xbox 360 era. Earlier consoles may have had some support but from x360/ps3 era and forwards, you can connect a USB KB and use it. It's up to companies to make their games compatible to the hardware.
And as for voice. You will not hear much from buff characters with pre-pubescent voices in Tera. You will be mostly yelled at by elins with deep, nasal and perverted sounding voices.
I do believe that those (talisman trio) will be gone. When we get the patch that gives us the consumables all in one, I'm pretty sure that they'll be removed.
I guess that is my biggest concern, at what cost?
Are they dumbing down the game so much (removal of several consumables, stm, etc) to be easier to play on consoles and them we will receive an optimized port?
The talisman trio is removed but the nostrum stays with new effects to offset charms. All the specific info is over on essentialmana.com
This is something I've thought about as well. I think they'll release in their home market first, wait 6-7 months to gauge the population and if profitable then localize and release in the english speaking regions. Then branch farther out to the other regions.
That's what it's seeming to look like, in the notes the slightly hint that the game will be slightly different to compensate for controller users, but that base should be easily portable. Well I say easily, nothing easy about it in all actuality. But I'm with you, this is probably our best bet for optimization.
