Redo the Race/Gender Restrictions... Here's an Idea for That...
I'm sure this has been said more than enough times since the Ninja class release, but I just wanted to put my two cents in.
For starters, I'm all for such restrictions as these. It creates diversity in games... unless every new class goes to a female or Elin. If developers are going to restrict classes to a race or gender, well... they could at least make it appropriate. In addition, give the new class a believable (in the sense of the game) origin story.
Following is a list of my ideas for each class, and why. I will start with the most recently added class and work my way back to the Reaper.
Ninja: (Elin only) -Why did we already go back to the Elin anyway?-
-should be Castanic
-I'm not sure about anybody else, but when I think of a ninja class, I think it would fit best with the Castanic race. Even their city is dark and shadowed.
Brawler: (Female Human only)
-should be Baraka/Aman
-Seriously? I'm all for female characters with power, but how many people can honestly say that a human female in this game looks more like a brawler than a Baraka or Aman. For this class I believe the Aman would fit best class. Maybe the Baraka could get some type of Grapple/Sumo class where they kind of just toss enemies around with their bare hands.
Gunner: (Female High Elf/Castanic only)
-should be High Elf/Human
-I gave this one a bit of though based on the environment and looks. The gun seems like a mix of magical and mechanical technology. This is why I say High Elf and Human. Looking at Velika it makes me think of a sophisticated mechanically driven city, however, the gun is more than that. It appears to be magical as well. That's where the High Elf comes in. Looking at Allemantheia, one can't deny the mystical/magical aspect of the whole place. Therefore, for the gunner, I think a story of humans and high elfs combining powers to create something more powerful sounds good.
Reaper: (Elin only)
-Despite the fact that it doesn't fit the lore of the race, a decent story went with this class. After running the story of the reaper class, I actually kind of liked it. For that reason, I would keep this one the same, but also offer it to the Popori race for the fact that they were "awakened" by the Elins.
Simply make these changes and offer every player 4 race change coupons to accommodate one character race change per class. In addition to these changes, none of these classes should be gender locked. Also, any player with of these classes would be "grandfathered" in to keep their character as is.
I really believe that this would help create a more diverse population of races in the game.

As for gunner, if fits castanics too, since in lore, castanics, or devas, were Lok's builder helpers and Lok is the go to god for building intricate things way ahead of their time.
Brawler is spot on amani. But I'd also include humans. Just not female.
ninja fits castanic and human.
Why I'm including humans in almost evertything? because humans are the jack of trades race. The race that can do it all because of diversity.
Yeah, I agree with pretty much everything you said. I'm not too familiar with the Castanic lore, but if you're right then that does make sense for it to be Castanic and High Elf, but it should still be for male and femalealike. As far as humans included in everything, I think it should be limited to physical weaponry. For example, I don't think a mystic, priest, or sorcerer class fits the human. Although, I agree with the "jack of all trades" thing, humans really haven't ever been known for being THE magical beings in any game (especially when elves are included in the roster).

I've wondered that myself. In addition, I've seen a lot of people wonder that same thing. I find myself agreeing more with Nopi on that aspect though. I think Rhodos is more in a class of his own; however, it does make it kind of odd with the brawler class ripping off him and being only female. Maybe the original Brawler saw him fight and that's really where the idea came from? I don't know... I just think it would have been better if they made Aman the Brawler class, and the original Brawler would have been an Aman who was maybe best friends/comrades with Rhodos (Rhodos taught his style to his Aman friend, and that Aman taught it to the rest of his people).
As for what I remember of brawler lore, the first brawler, Marda or something was she called, lost her family to orcans and her first gloves were actually blacksmith weapons she learned to fight with, then fully adapted to become weapons.
I get that about the humans. My main thing with humans is that, when it comes to games with other races, humans tend to be one of the least played races. Then again, I guess that would be an additional reason to make them a true jack-of-all-trades so more people would use them.
As far as the Brawler, I understand that lore. I was simply stating, it would make more sense for her to have gotten the idea from seeing Rhodos fight at some point during her childhood. Then once she lost her family, she remembered how powerful Rhodos was just using his fists. However, because she wasn't as large as him and with fists like his, she went and made her own...
I don't know... I just think something like that, or the idea with the Aman would made for better lore. Additionally (for the female only lore), it would have went well with some additional lore that after defeating those who killed her family, she decided to help all human woman be as equally powerful in hand-to-hand combat as the powerful Rhodos that she remembered from when she was a child.
To me, just adjusting the lore a bit to something like that would have made a lot more sense.
Personally though, I've finally gotten tired of all the new "female only" classes. In addition, the constant/disturbing "loli" banter in the chat is getting to be a bit too much. It may all be in good humor, but when my eye catches the chat, and at that exact moment I read something like, "I'm a [filtered] so I love this loli obsessed game..." That was it for me.
From this, to people seemingly "sexting" on global, the game has become unbearable. I have recently started playing Black Desert Online which is so much better in many ways. Specifically, along with blocking individuals, BDO has a custom chat filter (you can input the words you never want to see). I won't get into it, because I'm not here to advertise, but I'm just glad I decided to leave TERA now.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for weird/sexual/gross/humorous banter, but when it gets out of hand as it has in TERA... I just can't do it anymore. I have a teenage daughter, and when I read some of the daily chat... I'm just really glad she doesn't play TERA Online.
Anyway, sorry for getting off the subject of my own thread, but it kind of comes down to... I very recently quit playing TERA partially because of the female only thing.
As a note I wanted to get clear, I didn't include humans in the gunner part. I just said they can be a jack of trades, but I left gunners as they are now, just including males.
As for chat and [filtered], I hardly ever read global because it's cancer. I said it before and will say it again. Global in Tera is like mixing reddit and 4chan. My experience in Tera is much better without Global chat. Or has been. Currently also taking a break from the game.
I know how you feel. The most common excuse I hear is that people "Don't want to stare at a guy's [filtered] the whole time they play" which is complete and utter bull, given that the beautiful environments Tera gives us to stare at. I like playing both genders equally, but I do not, however, like being forced to play a specific gender to experience playing every class. Tera has been striving down the wrong path lately with all these stupid mounts (Looking at you, Llamas, Cats, Beetles etc) and costumes specifically made for elins or just females in general.
I thought the theme we were going for in this year was gender equality, so I have to ask why everything is female only in Tera these days, even when I already know the answer: Because people buy it.
I have already steeled myself to quit this game if it's announced that the next new class is female/elin only. I don't want to do it, I've put a lot of time and a fair bit of money into this game, but it's getting out of hand (And into wallet).
Next class was already announced to be a "non healer female class," sorry. :<
If it were the feminazis involved in development, this IS gender equality lol.
Jokes aside.
I know they are not gonna stop doing this because of nice profit they get out of it, which is good for them on the business side of view. But I hope it pauses here. Hopefully The next next one hopefully is something different other than female locked/elin locked class.
P.S.
As much I don't want to mention it. This is a Korean game. South Korean and the Asian country where I'm from, has this conscription thing. Which means equality is not that big of a thing around since us men has slightly less freedom than the women by both law and society in general. Just some hidden data and statistics, not facts. I will remove this part of comment if requested.
I know exactly what you mean. My one and only character for years has been my Baraka Priest, Jokells. I have no issues with this as when I started playing I was in awe with the beautiful atmosphere/environment of the game. That is actually another reason why I decided to try out Black Desert, that game is just gorgeous with fluctuating night and day, weather, etc. There are no dungeons, which a lot of people don't like, but I like it even more that way. If you want to team up for something you just go and do it: you don't wait for a queue. The game does have a gender lock on all classes, but all classes have a counterpart locked to the opposite gender... except two I think (for example, there is a wizard male class and a witch female class).
... Sorry, I really am trying not to mention/promote other games...
@Meningitis
That's unfortunate. I was really hoping for the same thing... I was hoping they would finally introduce a current/new class being made available for the male gender characters, even if it was as simple as the gunner being extended to the male gender of the Castanic and High Elf race.
@6LEXYMLXH9
That's another thing I like about Black Desert Online (which is also a Korean game), as of right now it seemingly accommodates all types (genders) of players.
O.K. Here it is...
Black Desert
Good:
-Gameplay like TERA in regards to controls/combat/etc.
-Beautiful graphics
... Those are really all that made me want to play the game...
-Mounted combat
-Own a boat
Bad:
-Lack of mounts
**The game is new, but there are only horses, wagons pulled by horses, boats, camels, and an elephant
**(from what I understand the camel is hard to get until you've played a while, and the elephant is for guilds only).
**Basically there are just horses and different size wagons that can be pulled by one, two, or four horses.
**I personally don't mind this as the variety of horses and customization is decent
**However, it does suck when I see a little goblin riding a wolf... I want to ride a giant wolf, lol.
-No fast travel
Not Good or Bad:
-No dungeons
-Bland story (not the worst though, I don't mind it)
-Tons of crafting/fishing/mining/gathering/farming/hunting
-Lots of water
-Dive while swimming (I haven't found a reason for this yet, but it's fun when trying to hide)
-They will soon allow cash shop items to be sold on the marketplace, much like TERA already does.
In my opinion there really isn't anything "bad" with Black Desert. I love the game.
When comparing the two:
In TERA Online I only really only solo played except for a few of the lower level dungeons when I was still new. I have a level 65 Priest with a item level that allows me to queue for any dungeon, if I ever wanted to, but I don't do dungeons and haven't in a long long time. I almost have a Diamond Laurel which I probably would already have if I queued for dungeons and joined a guild. In addition, I have never sold cash shops items just to turn around and buy high level gear. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but I would rather take a long time putting in the effort, than forking over the cash to become the best and not having anything to do with it.
In Black Desert Online, I have a level 50 Wizard. I took a break from grinding quest to just enjoy fishing quests as I explore the waters/islands of the world. Once I've completed the series of fishing quest, I might try to level it completely up, or I might started doing quest for the combat experience again to build up my character and gear.
I'ts been circulating for a while now, since around the time of the aces wild update (a little before). Apparently, it may have already been in development for a while, so they're going through with it? There was also mention that they "were considering making a popori locked class" but I don't know how much credit that has, even though they mentioned it.
Like 6LEXYMLXH9 replied, I would hate it less if they came out with a Popori locked class, but I still wouldn't like it. Although, since the new classes started Popori, Baraka, and Aman are really lacking in the population. Locking some new classes to those might at least help bring out more in-game diversity.
Let the Aman get in touch with their dragon-esque selves... create a class that brings their inner dragon out.
Give the little Popori a steam punk style exo-suit weapon/class.
Give the Baraka a reason to use that big [filtered] arm they have and create a Grapple class for them. (I saw that this was filtered and laughed. In game we have BAMs that is litereally referenced as Big A.. Monsters... but in the forums they filter the word.)
I think with that, the game could be going in the right track of becoming decent again.
Oh, and @Gaalrak
I hate the new mounts lately too. When I heard of the lama I thought, "Well... OK... I wonder what they did to make it fly." Then I saw that it was cartoony as hell and just runs in flight... To me, it felt like they weren't even trying with that one at all.
