Could other servers have a name wipe when we do the server merge?

@Treeshark --

In 2015 when the last great wipe was done across all servers, we were told it would be a yearly event. Personally, I think this is a great idea.

Could we have a game wide wipe when we do the server merge? Anything not logged into since July of 2015, say, and executed in August/September. Plenty of time to warn people that if they want the name they need to log in by x date.

It would free up abandoned names, but shouldn't jeopardize accounts of even very casual players.

Honestly, I can't think of a reason against this unless it just requires more manpower than I realize, or there were a ton of complaints I don't know about from the last time this was done...

how about a time limit to creating characters in a row. that would stop people from hoarding names really quickly.

last time the name wipe happened people just created more characters with the same names.

name wipes themselves will do nothing to stop people from hoarding names because of how easily they can just remake the characters with the same names and sit on those until the next one.
Yes, this. Or restrict the recently cleared names to name changes only.

As much as i agree with the idea and execution of another name wipe, we still do not have a solution for those who plan to hoard once again a lot of names they will never use, and purely have them for later sell. This kind of actions is not looked with good eyes at EME, but there is little they can do to stop people from doing such type of business.

Honestly I don't care about name sellers.

It's the abandoned names I want to see cleared out.
  • I want to print this post and hang it on my wall.

it was never said to be a yearly event, ever. link to any topic where anyone in eme management said that...you can't as they never did. in fact in multiple threads post name wipe when people were requesting it again is was stated not happening, and definitely not happening yearly. 3~4 years between purges fine. though considering the BS of the last name purge (name hoarders and sellers) they may not want to do it for a looong time.

I remember there was a patch in Ktera that prevented names of deleted characters to be used for 1 month. This was BHS move in order to combat name trade and sell in Ktera (they also have to deal with that over there).

If we could have that over here in NA, it would surely deal a heavy blow to the people who hoard and keep names they will never use. Problem is, that even if the name seller manages to sell a name to some poor fool, that person won't be able to use the name for a full month. and it will turn into a scam instead of a formal trade.

This is why i am so against name selling: because you are not dealing with a normal trade of items here, and scams can happen in the worst case scenario.

Seriously, to all of you who perform such a unlawful business: What is the point of hoarding 40 names, and then sell them each at 500k? Do you expect a newbie who wants to use that name to have that much gold? Unfortunately, the people who do have the gold actually pay for names, which doesn't do any good at all in order to combat the name sellers.

IMO, a name wipe should happen soon, but with added security to avoid the same people to hoard names they will never ever use.
  • The thing with having a month between being able to use a name again, that also punishes those who merely want to switch their character names around. I've done it, or maybe I could have a name saved to be used by a character later. It's not all about sales, and tbh there's really not a lot of that going on anymore. Downside still, names are just rotting, whether it be for sales or not(i've seen plenty I want that are level 1 or never logged on, that I NEVER saw for sale).

Thank you for all who have posted opinions and facts. I have a memory of the offer of a yearly thing, but DeadX is correct I have no link. On the other hand I have not been able to find a link to the other threads DeadX referenced either so it may just be that my search fu is bad. (I did look before I posted this, so if anyone else has a link I will close this thread)

Well, you could easily work around this issue by making it so that the name could be reused on the same account, just not released to the general pool to other new characters to use.

I'm not 100% sure, but if I remember correctly what K-TERA did, though, I think it didn't apply to Rename Voucher, but only to organic new character creation. So, if that's true, "name selling" would still have been possible, as long as the person taking the name used a voucher and didn't create a new character.

Anyway, things like this are all in the details. Even if you take all sorts of steps to make name transferring impractical, it doesn't necessarily solve the root problem of someone having a name they're not using, and someone else who would use it wanting it. It just means that people won't be as tempted to use them all with the intention of selling them.

I rly want a name but already taken, I tried to add the guy but that character is at lv 1 :( it seems like that character never log on
They should make some kind of name wipe automatically when people just create the character and left it there without levelin it up. I think this time is more like fixing the name sellers issue would make more of a reason.

I wouldn't mind cause last time they warned us to actually login our accounts and even sent an e-mail blast. So I'm not worried at all of they decide to do another name wipe. I support it :waving:

This guy has the right idea. It'll be very few players that actually bother claiming names for sale if they do it like this.
Plus, it will make EME some more money.
  • this is just an idea but what if when (and if) they do a server merge just do a mass rename for all characters on all those servers being merged. Like for example one of my old characters (since deleted) was Krad.Darkslayer and just rename him to Krad.Darkslayer.HW since he was on Highwatch sever? and then give each account 2 name change tickets or something. It will come down to who logs on and uses their ticket first. and some people may just keep the rename.
