Why do we even have equalized gear in battlegrounds?

I'm not even trolling. Seriously. With all the battlegrounds that actually do anything requiring you to be level 65 anyways, why is equalized gear even a thing right now?
Ambit, Disco, Generation, Schisma, Deviate, Dreadnaught, Lucid, Tensus, Slaughter, Starfall, Conflate and Imperator are all better than this "equalized gear" simply because of the rolls you can choose to have. If Idoneal had rerollable rolls, it'd be better than this "equalized gear". Even without that I seriously think Idoneal overpowers that of "equalized gear".
In my personal opinion I don't feel like there's a need to have it- especially not at the 404 ilvl cutoff. Make the cutoff where the idonal and avatar weapon leaves off.
And for those of you that will say "just go gear your character and stop being lazy" this thread isn't about being lazy or not. I certainly have geared characters, but I just don't think 404 cutoff is needed for BGs anymore. The only way "equalized gear" is better is if someones using a low lvl weapon just to do it.
Anyways post your thoughts. Thanks.

Equalized is what makes the pvp unfair. That is what this whole discussion is trying to bring to light.

I wouldn't say it makes it unfair, though I do agree it shouldn't be there. Mainly because it takes away the main reason to even get PvP gear.

The pvp game should be equals combat skill and gearing skill and commitment. Winning a pvp match should mean that a player is either very good at the skill game, or have prepared enough through gear (or both), so people should try to bring the best gear they can get into the pvp fray, and if they know their gear is low tier and will contribute to their loss, all the more incentive to obtain better gear.

The pvp gear that they give you isint as bad as many say it is, ofcourse its gonna be weaker than +15 gear as it should be. The only change i would recommend makeing to the equalized gear is giveing the earings 10% stun reduction

WoW had PvP gear when I was playing it (dont know about now). The problem with this setup is, that you could get the best gear only with a lot of time playing WoW. This meant that the old players who spent a lot of time into their PvP gear were absolutely dominating the battlefield. That was no fun as the beginners, the alts (new character of a player with already a max level), the casuals, the low skilled (friends) were ALWAYS LEFT BEHIND. The PvP battlegrounds sarted to die out/fade away and no one wanted to be fodder for the overgeared old players. The only fun battlegrounds were zerging ones like Alterac Valley where you move in the Zerg and the strenght of one single player could be outplayed by the amount.

In Tera, you can hop into corsairs stronghold and just play it, whoever you are. Newbies, alts, casuals, planless. You unlikely wont get killed in oneshots, you can contribute to the BG, you are not groundhugging most of the time. Nevertheless, experienced players have the option to fine tune their crystals, glyphs, skill tree, movement, buffs so that with some luck you can still oneshot a no-relentless-newbie with a backcrit. This balance makes the actual equalized gear system attractive for both sides.
  • Equalized gear should at least differentiate between class type. Try putting up with EQ gear as a healer, for instance.
    Pure vomit, I tell you.

However, a great incentive to make casual players quit the game too.
  • The day of ninja release, they upgraded equalized gear in CS (deviate I think?).

So people was like, destroying both gates an crystal in 2 or less minutes.

So they reverted it again the next day.

Anyway, they should just add both options on some BGs, and add more rewards for the unequalized one to give people a reason to gear and do that one.

Though deleting the fodder from it will kill the queue times.

Or they could set a limited number of fodder people at max per team, but they won't know how to program that.
  • Wouldn't it be great if equalized gear only equalized the raw stats but inherited the bonuses you rolled on your actual gear?

I see no problems with the equalized gear, other than it missing the stun resist on earrings.

It allows someone to be able to be competitive without having to gear up. PvP should always be more about skill than gear.

There's still a huge advantage having gear (in FWC), so it's worth getting. But you won't be worthless without it.

You have to run a lot of BGs to get PvP gear, correct? But who wants to do that in paper armor, going up against fully geared enemies? It makes gearing a nightmare!

So what, they should have to +12 a PvE set first? That's stupid, if you're a PvP focused player.

With the advent of Conflate gear, and not having to +15, BHS is finally realizing that the PvP community does not want a heavy gear grind. EQ gear helps reduce the gear grind even more, by not forcing them to do more PvE. I like it this way, and fully support it.

And most of those old gears you mentioned are crap compared to equalized gear.

This will always happen when the devs have to merge newbies with pros together. On the other side, I don't know if this game has enough quantities of those two kinds of players to be able to make newbie and pro leagues and for them to be healthy. I just don't know how many players the Tera pvp scene have.
