Fps help

Didn't realize forums moved, I'll repost this here.

I'm at my wit's end. It seems no matter what tweaks I do, I can't get above 10 fps. It doesn't matter if Tera's at minimum settings or maxed out, I only get 10 fps. I've tried the engine tweaks from Bernkastel's guide already, and there's no difference with or without it. I've tried uninstalling the game, running it with and without tweaks, and nothing helps at all, not even a 1 or 2 frame difference. My computer specs are as follows.
i7-6700k, overclocked to 4.6 GHz, a GTX 980ti, and 16 gigs of ram. I'm running Windows 10 home edition, if that matters.

    Odd. I'm on a much older PC. i7-3770k @ 3.9, gtx680 and 16gb ram. With the optimization guide, I run the game with half the stuff on max and the rest on mid and run at 60 fps(after throttling). Would love to tell you what it is but if you have already done all required tests, with optimizations and in vanilla, nothing comes from my mind at the moment. Maybe something is running in the background? Or another application is interfering with Tera? Try checking your running programs and the loads on both your cpu and video card when running the game. One last thing could be the video card driver. I had a similar problem with another game, where the newer driver made the game nearly unplayable.

    These are the few things i can tell you from the top of my currently tired head. Hope you can solve.

    EDIT: Another thing I've heard about is that new CPUs don't work well with older stuff when hyper threading. Try disabling that for a quick test too.

    I'd also suggest disabling hyperthreading and retesting. My cousin has a very similar computer to you (he has an i7 4790k) and gets 60+ FPS in Velika, 30+ in HW, and 40+ in dungeons. You should be getting similar, especially since his CPU isn't overclocked.

    I'm just saying, because my computer, an old stock i5 2500k, 8Gb RAM, and an R9 380 is typically 30+ fps in dungeons at max settings @ 1080p. Got $20 says disabling HT will help, no reason my computer should be doing better than yours.

    *Edit*

    Just remembered, also look at increasing your pagefile/virtual memory allotment in Windows. I had stuttering and FPS/performance issues with my system before increasing this, and after doing that fix, it ran better and hasn't given me issues since. Someone on gameforge's forums posted a good guide about it, just google "Tera, pagefile" and it should be the first one.

    This also works much better if you're running Tera on an SSD as well. I have the game running on a Samsung 850 EVO 250Gb SSD, and Windows/pagfile on an Intel 530 120Gb SSD and have not had any loading/performance issues.

    I'd try reinstalling Windows. Just make sure you write down your current Windows 10 key, before you do. (I forgot to do this, and lost my licensed copy because of it!)

    Your problem is almost assuredly due to a software issue.
  • i will not recommend reinstalling windows 10 since that working will be a chance of 0.1%.

    I assume with trying everything you also disabled everything with your privacy settings, extra apps/programs and the basic anti virus aka Windows defender and/or made the exceptions on your list.

    Check your drivers tho, best is the deinstall completely with a program that also deletes it from the registery and the file location.

    in your S1engine file you should put CPUNumLogicalProcessors= your amount of cores ( i got 4 ). it is at the bottum of your S1Engine file and this line is not there. You need to put it there yourself.

    [AppCompat]
    MeasuredCPUScore=254.312485
    CompatLevelComposite=4
    CompatLevelCPU=5
    CompatLevelGPU=4
    CPUNumLogicalProcessors=4

    Works both for Intel and AMD CPU's. exception is the bulldozer CPU, seems somehow this does not work or not to noticeable.

    but i went from 10-15 fps to 35-45 fps on max settings ( with the bernkastel and techdude01's guide ) and the setting for amount of views for pc not unlimited but 30.

    also look for a line called Poolsize. standard is 140 ( amount of MB its uses from your card ) and change it to 700 per gb. ( i got 1gb so i use 700. 2gb 1400, also from fellow players anything above 1400 seems not to work. so i would just check it on 1400 if you got 2b or more

    And i got a crappy pc.
    AMD radeon R7 240 1gb.
    Intel QuadCore @ 2,4ghz.
    RAM 4,00gb at 1066mhz

    If you just installed windows make sure your 980 is running on nvidia drivers not the stock wddm drivers that come with a win10 install. That was my issue when I first upgraded to win10
  • Also I have heard that updating to the latest version of Adobe Flash Player assists frame rate due to the UI using an Adobe Flash plugin.
  • Just to state, I have an AMD Phenom II X4 with 12 GB of RAM and a GTX 760 Nvidia graphics card. I can get about 55-70 FPS around the world, 20-30 in Velika, and 80-90 in dungeons. Just wanted to let you know my stats.

    I have heard of two separate people having this exact same problem on Windows 10, and both fixed it by doing a full, non upgrade install of Windows 10.
  • I have Windows 10 Professional and have not had any issue with frame rates. However, your mileage may vary.
  • Mobius1Mobius1 ✭✭✭
    Sorry, I did not mean to imply that everyone has this issue with Windows 10. I personally have it, and have had no issues, running it both through an upgraded version, and a full install.

    But issues from the upgraded version, though not normal, are certainly not uncommon.
  • Yes, it is a crap shoot. I do hope they take the time to redesign the game engine and user interface to be more optimized to decrease this issue with frame rates.

    So after reading comments:

    1: DO NOT disable/turn off any Antivirus/Firewall software. Ever.
    2: Unless, and only unless you did a download upgrade to Windows 10, should you reinstall. Re-installing the OS has an extremely low chance of helping you here.
    3: I agree with Ultemecia, delete existing drivers, and reinstall the latest Geforce Drivers straight from Nvidia's website. Never use stock video drivers.
    4: Updating your Adobe flash player may not hurt either, just make sure to uninstall your existing one and get the 64-bit version. 32-bit is outdated and archaic.
  • UltemeciaUltemecia ✭✭✭
    I doubt the Adobe flash player will help at all, the game must come bundled with a version as I run this on a computer that has no flash player installed. (linux box with w.i.n.e)

    Ouch. Emulating is never good for performance!
  • UltemeciaUltemecia ✭✭✭
    Wine isn't emulatation. Most programs that work properly in wine actually run better in linux than they do on windows in my experience at least.
