I have both of my healers in a guild named [Cant Heal Stupid] for this particular reason. LOL
I'm a main healer of 3 years and a half and I've -never- been blamed for anything, whether I play with friends or with total randoms in LFG or IMS. It just doesn't happen. I do my job properly and nobody has pinned the blame on me for their own screwups. When it -is- my fault, I already know it is, nobody has felt the need to point fingers at me, often I'll say sorry myself. So if you encounter this "blame the healer" fairly often, perhaps there is something you are doing wrong that you aren't recognizing. Not saying that you can't encounter really foul players that will blame you no matter what you do, but I don't think it should be that often of an occurrence. But that the finger pointing might come from players who are playing terribly bad themselves doesn't necessarily mean you are doing good. Maybe I'm lucky I'm not blamed, but 3 years and a half is a really long time to always be lucky.
As for DPS... Facetanking some damage is important for maximizing DPS, the job of a healer is not just "healing", the job of a healer is to enable and allow the party to do the maximum DPS possible (which includes keeping people alive). But knowingly taking damage you know you can take to pull more DPS is not the same as blindly getting hit by everything because you are clueless. I can tell the difference between the two.
But I don't particularly care if a player is taking damage or not. What I care about is that many DPS players do incredibly low damage for the gear they have. I can accept that a new player in Idoneal or that just got Dreadnaught +12 which is probably badly rolled because they still don't know better is doing 200k/s or less in a fight like normal mode Verno, but I can't accept that a player in Slaughter, Starfall or Imperator does similarly low damage in a fight that has permanent back time. With that kind of gear, which allows any DPS class to do much better than my 200k/s example, there should be a degree of knowledge and skill already. Instead you are often met with players who use bad crystals, bad glyphs, bad everything... There is absolutely no excuse for that after you've been playing Tera as a level 65 for a couple weeks. It isn't hard to find up to date guides on anything right now, and there is always asking experienced players, we tend to always be happy to answer.
The way I see it, a player in decent gear doing abysmally low DPS is akin to a healer not healing anyone who is on the edge of death for 2 minutes when they have had ample opportunity to do so and not applying buffs and endurance debuffs at all, or very halfassedly, through the fight. Both are simply not doing their job.
I did, till i got in a Channelworks run where the dps were so bad it was literally faster for me to stop healing (which they needed nonstop, and they broke the healer statue as well..) and just go full dps.
One can only take so much stupid before giving in.
Regardless of the whole blame thing though:
For the love of god, no matter what class you are: BRING. SOME. DAMN. POTIONS.
Whether they are new, or just bad, it has a negative effect on others.
I agree there could be more guides to help the newbies out, but there is already a good amount of dungeon/class guides.
A thread for tips would be useful, but I don't think this is that thread. I'm sure you were trying to help, but you come off a little biased and you don't seem to be very experienced at end-game (based on some of things you said).
I value your opinion and I see where you're coming from, I just think it could have been done in a way that would be better received by the community.
I've been there... was doing runs to gather enough spellbind to try 3%, and i had to change my priest to "dps" on the first boss already... my numbers were higher than the archer.. im pretty sure i made more dmg... until today, tbh, i think that archer was a bot... he used ONLY auto attack
"There are far too many people who are willing to "define the problems" when really it all comes down to the fact that there are good players, bad players, serious players and casual players."
I agree, and since serious players want to run a "harder dungeon" fast, with everyone knowing everything, we need to have a fulll party where everyone can contribute almost equally.
Example, a ninja (a well-geared +15 sf ninja) does 5,4% damage, insanely low right?
Why should the team carry him? It is like playing with 4 players, that dps is kinda useless. So he will probably get a kick.
Example 2, a dps when asked "do you know the mechanics in manglemire", says no, when asked "have you at least watched the video?" says "i dont watch videos before entering dungeons" kinda cocky and arrogant, then fails every mechanic possible and makes team wipe by leaving puddle under boss's feet. and wastes everybody's time.
to solve some problems, like dps not having dps at all
that is exactly what you said, serious players...casual players, then go and queue channelworks there your dps will be good
Usually i join a LFG for a group or IM for random dungeons.
LFG's usually go a lot smoother since it's server based.
Instance Matching is, well... Cancer
People just don't care. And that's the problem.
And it's been like that for as long as i can remember.
You have Tanks (Lancers & Brawlers) who can't keep a boss in one direction, let alone hold aggro.
You have healers who think, It's my job to heal, And not Mana Charge, Debuff the boss, etc.
You have DPS who just want to face tank everything and question why they die.
It's just the nature of the beast. Everyone want's to be carried to some extent.
But come on guys, It's not rocket science...
Learn you class. Learn the rotations, Learn the Dungeons. End of Story
Speaking of which. Did a DFNM Instance Matching last night on my 2nd Reaper.
Somehow managed to get 2 Priests in the group.
You would think one of the 2 would have points into MP Replenishment on Restorative Burst.... Nope!
You would think one of the 2 would Actually Mana Charge... Nope!
Ended up using at least 10x Mana pots during that run.
And yes, I had to Shadow Lash every time it was off CD.
And no, I was not using a Glistening crystal (should not have to)
It really is kind of saddening, Truly is.
So many boss mechanics go straight through a Bersrerk's block and we don't get our first dodge until 60, which is Evasive Smash and requires charging a skill to use. Our first real dodge, Evasive Roll, doesn't come until 65 and shares a cooldown with Evasive Smash. I know Tenacity could be used as an iframe of sorts for debuffs, but we still take damage.
Our DPS isn't stellar and our ability to tank is utter garbage compared to the other metal armor classes. Lancers and Brawlers are the tankiest classes out there, and Gunner isn't far behind despite them being ranged.
And I'll say again prob. because it IS their fault why they get so much clap.
This 5 year old game with barely an influx of new players. Returnee player here already got skilled in MM, WH again, completed 1 DSL(many don't wanna do 15 so), currently working on SSNM but know the first 2 bosses inside out on 1st attempt.
The game is easy compared to what it used to be and the issue is some healers really are just too lazy to heal.
And another guy mentioned mana like serious spot [filtered] on.
Not only are they lazy to heal but time again mana issues.
I've done my fair share of bad healing while relearning priest in dfnm. Been cussed out, etc.
I think it would've been more helpful if the complainers give constructive feedback instead. Most of what they say fall along the lines of "lrn2heal/tank," plus or minus a few explicatives. So half the fault lies with the healer/tank who don't listen/all for help and who don't at least read up on their class, while the other half lies with those who say "git gud" or cuss out their scrub healers/tanks and give no constructive criticisms.
So blame the whole raid/party, and rage quit before first boss
Pre-level 65 experience is important for new tera players to gain a proper perspective and understandings of this class. Unfortunately BHS never cares about that
Example classes that need a definite fix:
Warrior, Pre-level 60, What the heck does that edge bar means? Post-level 65, Why should I have to use 0 damage skills like poison blade to just make edges? I used pounce a lot in the past now you tell me to forget this skill? Why another warrior is angry to stop me using scythe?
Slayer, Why I get double evasive roll, measured slice and eviscerate this late?
Berzerker, Pre-level 65, I am very proud of having a block to help me survive much better than other classes, Post-level 65, OMFG my block is useless in endgame dungeons I need more iframes!
Mystic, Pre-level 65, Thralls can do everything for me. Thrall of protection generates absurd amount of aggro that NO level appropriate tank can grab aggro back until it dies, Thralls of life heals me. Thrall of wrath takes out half of HP of a boss in a matter of seconds. I can also deal tons of damage make me feel like this class is essentially a DPS class that can also heal. Party partners yells at me for not healing them but I can just get rid of everything in this dungeon by my superior attacking power and thralls who cares about them lol?
Brawler, Pre-level 65, I am a god to overwhelm everything, I do whatever I want no one can stop me. now I am level 65, Why do I die a lot? Why I have to be the only one responsible to draw boss's attention, Why everyone get mad of me for making mistakes?
Earlier, people complained leveling dungeons were too difficult for new players. now they are easy but endgame dungeons become more unfriendly to them. Nothing has been changed to improve the quality of life to new players.
Some people, me included, have proposed more than once, to add training instances for people to enter and learn things from. Role explanations(like what is a tank and what they do), Explanations on crystals, charms and pots. Glyphs. i-frame tutorials. Add these either optional or mandatory(though I'd prefer optional because of alts). These ideas have been things that some people believe would work to put the knowledge of how to play the game actually inside the game in an "in your face" way. Something people can skip doing but that is so present in game that they can't ignore it. Sort of like a country at war slapping "join the army" posters and war paraphernalia just about everywhere so people realize they are indeed at war.
Again. This is what I, a single person, believes can help new people learn the game a little more. It shouldn't make them i-frame experts nor pros at calculating how to max dps, but it would be an in game guide people can start from and to at least not abysmally suck the first time they go to end game. It also won't help everyone nor fix the egos of the wise guys, but I believe placing the knowledge in the most available and reachable ways could help fix or at least soothe down some of the issues people post around in these forums.
I agree with everything you say except for the glistening part. Healers and mana potions can only do so much. While you hope for good healers, you have to rely on yourself. You never know who you will come across.
Without a glistening on Reaper, you will run into mana problems. Potions only go so far.
With a glistening, a properly geared Reaper no longer needs potions (or even healers) to keep their mana healthy.
Redstrike touches on this in his guide also.
