Another Merge Topic from an Edgy Pker

Hey guys, I have looked over a lot of these threads talking about people moving out of the newly merged server (When it happens) and I want to make a few things very very clear. I'll try to address the concerns I have seen laid out, as well as give some of my own personal thoughts and advice on what to do when the merge comes. I'll also give you a 'Too Lazy; Didn't Read' (TL;DR) At the end for those who aren't too interested in reading a wall.

So the Issues I have seen coming up time and time again:

A big issue I see being brought up is that you are afraid that you wont be able to quest/achievement hunt without some nasty PKer gunning you down. This simply ISN'T true. In my 3-4 years of Tera playing, I have never seen a player go "Oh there's a quest over there, lets just go wait for someone to come through and kill them." Don't forget that there is Safezones, Island of dawn won't be harmed by there being PvP because it is a safezone. I saw some people worried about people waiting outside Highwatch? I literally have never seen or killed anyone outside Highwatch.

We PKers are too lazy to leave areas such as Fey Forest and Oblivion Woods. We know we can find players there, so that's where we stay.

Another large issue I saw was that the quality of PvE players is going to go down, or rather there's going to be fewer good PvE'rs among the larger population. This ALSO is largely false. While there is the bad apples who just don't understand PvE (Mostly because they are new), you have to remember that if you want to get endgame gear, you have to PvE to some extent. PvP players normally have a great understanding of their skills as well as how to control their characters. In PvE this translates to easily getting through mechanics/doing more damage due to knowing proper skill rotations. I don't think you have to worry about PvE going down hill. You will have a lot more people to choose from now for your perfect party.

Now What do I suggest?
Don't jump ship so soon off this merged server. For one, if you have character slots/bank slots/wardrobe slots, transferring to a new server will mean you have to buy all of those expansions again. "But the big bad PvP players are going to kill me while I hunt the XYZ Mob!" No we aren't. We don't care about your adventures to getting a rainbow colored laurel. Give us PvP players a chance. We aren't thrilled either that we are being merged with a PvE server, but I know we are trying to make the best of it.

TL;DR

Give it a chance (At least a few days, the transfers have been said to last a week). Don't lose your expansions. We aren't hunting you when you quest. If you don't want to get PK'd, Don't go into Fey Forest, Oblivion Woods, or Velika Outskirts.

If you have any Questions you want to ask a PKer, please, do so. I want you guys on my server, I want a healthy market for once, and a lively global chat to go along with it would be awesome.

Well said. More post like these from the perspective of pvp-ers are what's needed to clear the confusion. The one thing I may point is, since the server will be pvp65, I assume the PK spots at Fey and Oblivion will be dead, only leaving Velika and whatever new spot PKers find along the way.
  • While sure most of that will be true after a small while.

What alot of people are worried about(as far as pvp goes) On HW(my present main server); Several several people have called out that they can't wait to have PvP65 so they can finally hunt down and kill x player and y player. Openly stating that's their intentions...And i'd say about 70% of them i'd even believe it too.So it may very well be true for an estaiblished server..It's more getting to that point that's going to be difficult..

I think it will be the opposite. Those areas will become MORE populated, due to no more infamy being gained from pvp there. At least, that's how my fellow pkers and myself feel.

So settling fueds, I see where you're going with this.

Player X says "Imma mess you up Player.Z when the merge happens." Cool. Where's he gonna mess you up at? Inside Highwatch? Inside Velika? You can't. Plus, there's many channels in almost every region, so if you are really worried about being hunted down, just swap channels. Theres also players, such as myself, that just love pvp. I'll happily defend players from thirsty PvP players if it means I get some action.
  • @PaulisAwesome Isn't this harrasment or am I jumping to conclusions? Anyway the VG worth doing are either on a safe zone or inside DGs were PvP won't happen and you can always change your IGN on the new server.

Pretty solid point, You can always change IGN. I don't think that would count as harassment... PvP or PK is just that, Saying you want to PvP or PK someone isn't volatile, it's just using a game mechanic. If it was considered harassment, there would be many more banned players.

Then you clearly do not know these people; In ally PvP they pay other people who have them on their friends list just to know what area they're in.
They make small parties just to search all the areas.

These people know what wbams the other's need. They know their AFK [filtered] spots. Once you have thaat..It's really not that hard to track someone down..regardless of channels.

Mean sure don't get me wrong, Idgaf about this; I'm leaving to AV the moment I can. (for more reasons then this).
But that's what some people are concerned about.
  • Well on Highwatch, it's one of those servers where everyone knows everybody and even if you do name change it's going to get out eventually. Even with merger I still think that would happen, just because of "crafted by x" on vm equipment.
  • but i repeat again; After i'd say a month or two of this..
It would be a non issue and OWPvP will be dead yes.
Just that short timeframe is hell of people who don't want it.
  • Are people really that salty? Even on PvP servers, no one cares THAT much about stuff like that...

@PaulisAwesome , Can you tell me why you will be instantly transferring off? I've heard a few people say they will instantly leave, but never say why.

It's not the kind of community for me.
We have hardly any top tier endgame players on HW, and combined with the small few from LoT/VoT overall it's not going to help all that much.(from my point of view)
I don't care for OWPvP and i'd do my best to avoid it however so; but for me it's more the kind of community PvP brings in. That style doesn't fit my gameplay.
If we were going to get a good top tier endgame population..Then I'd stay..But I just don't think it's going to playout like that. Mid tier, high tier will certainly be more active..and maybe 10-15 more top tier players(for PvE content) but we'll have the same problem HW has now..That it's just not enough to sustain and more people will transfer and leave because of it.

    My two cents anyways.
  • You might be surprised how many people there are that can clear the Hardmode dungeons (SSHM, ABHM, Whatever). I know most of my guild can do it, we just don't. When the merge happens, it will require some networking, but once people have created new friends, I think the PvE scene will actually be quite lively.

As far as the community PvP creates, I don't know if you can judge a merged server so suddenly. This is the first merge we will have seen in a LONG time (ever since MT became a thing). As the player base of this new server, we will be in charge of deciding how toxic or friendly the server is... It's a fresh start for most. I've already communicated with my friends and guild that it would be best if the new server was a friendly environment, which means we will be leaving our toxicity on Lake of Tears.

You can't use current PvP servers as a reference, because with 65 only PKing, you will see a lot more PKers in the level 65 questing areas than ever before!

All the PKers that would normally go to other zones, will flock to the level 65 vanguard quest areas.

I think you are actually very wrong, and here is why:

While yes, there are a few people who like to PK lowbies, it's mainly because they can't pk 65's... They lack the skill/gear to do so. Those players you will not have to worry about them coming to pk you while you do your vanguards. As for the other Pkers, the ones who do still sit outside of Crescentia or Lumber town, we sit there because it's just an age old tradition. When I first started, I saw the "Big Bad PvPers" Smacking each other there, and I wanted to be like them. This won't change. We like these areas, we have fond memories of these areas. The location looks nice to the eye, where as the vanguard areas are full of mobs and other nuisances (Snow. ick.)
  • if you think that people care to find other people to gank then you're incredibly wrong my friend.

there wont be people sitting in vg areas ready to gank. that's not how pvpers think.

you highwatch players don't know anything about owpvp because you've never experienced it. you have this preconceived view about the subject which is why you are scared. it's understandable. but it's wrong.

    1) if you're not in fey forest or velika outskirts you're safe. people don't sit outside vg areas to gank. besides, most of them are protected anyways.

    2) people that might sit outside vg areas or hunt other players down are shitters. if you have endgame gear you could probably squash them. it's not hard.

    3) we dont give a [filtered]. we like to gank other pvpers. pve players aren't fun to fight because they either don't know how to pvp or are garbage.

    4) "dont knock it till you try it." even if you cannot be convinced otherwise, you can still give it a try before deciding whether or not to transfer.
