How is the Community, this my type of game?

So I started playing A**n(idk rules, its f2p p2w mmorpg hint), healer class, than created and lvled every other class and than the But 2 Win because too stronk with the most rescent patch (forever lvl'ing occuring). Also being 2 shot was ridiculous.. I dabbled btw a guild that wars, 2nd edition and a Desert that was Black, before the lies from devs.

I don't mind the grindage, I like to solo play a LOT. I'm a casual player. I can get into groups and I'm avg competent player with my class. The guild that wars was actually great for this. I like the action playstyle, why I lean more toward this game.

The problem, my buddy told me(who I started with), that there was mid-high leveling dead zone and it was difficult to do certain aspects of the game until end game, and at end game there wasn't much at the time, > 1 year ago.

I bounce around PvP and PvE. Obviously PvE is my main concern as of now, but i will go into PvP. I loved the Warring guilds from the desert that is black, and A**n's 2 warring factions. Tera seemed to lack there really bad when I started. Or I didn't get into it was much.

So in Summary
Wants:
-Casual (ability) to play on/off
-Not an extremely toxic community,
-An easier lvl'ing process with good endgame content
-Non p2W extreme business model
-Good GMs/CMs

Do not wants:
-Extreme gear imbalances
-Forever grindings
-Heavy p2w

PS. Is that annoying flag/no-flag pvp system still in place and have they implemented an organized system for PvP.

Tell me to gtfo or a summary of your opinion. I cant' start reading patch notes simply due to the fact I have no idea where the game is right now.

Hello. First, you can mention other game names here, so long as you don't talk solely about them in any place other than off topic. As for the community, it's more or less the same as others. You will find a bunch of friendlies and some toxics. Nothing new there. You will find most of the toxic stuff in Global chat (you can edit your chat windows and remove it or toss it into another tab if you don't want it on at all times) and in some end game where some people are desperate to do perfect runs as quick as possible.

As for p2w, everyone has a different definition of it nowadays. You can buy cash shop stuff, sell it to other players for in game gold and use that gold to get strong gear. The cash shop doesn't sell anything that cannot be found in the game. On the other hand, you can even use in game money to buy vouchers that grant you the same exact benefits of the monthly subscription. The subscription itself just gives you a mount, a bunch of consumables (which can be easily obtained without it) and exp boosts (which can also be obtained without the sub) to level faster. So basically everything a paying user can get can be obtained by the free user. And it doesn't take them that much longer to obtain it.

This game is very casual friendly and currently, because the real game starts at max level, leveling is super quick and easy. You can level to max in a few hours if you know what you are doing, or be laid back and level up in a few days. Most guilds, even the "casual" ones, want to do end game in one way or another. It's just the level of commitment that varies. The more casual ones just do end game for fun, while the hardcore go for speed runs to post on youtube, or do the pvp and guild vs guild game to get rewards and be renown (as happens with every game with hardcore guilds who want everyone and their dog to know they exist and are the best), and other standard mmo shenanigans.

As for grind and gear. Well, the game's end game has a gear grind which is understandable(not as huge as some other mmos though), but the cool thing about Tera is that no matter how good gear you have, you must become VERY skilled with the class you play if you want to be with the top end guys. And even for mid level play you must become rather skilled. And no gear in the world will replace gear skill (there, fixed. >.<).

As for pvp, the current open world pvp (only in pvp servers) has you flagging yourself as Outlaw, which allows you to attack other players. There's a bunch of safe zones though, so most common pvp happens in instanced battlegrounds you have to queue for. So you can enter a pve server to avoid the open world pvp and still do pvp through battlegrounds. Or join a pvp server and do both.

There will be a bunch of updates coming soon and we will have a new guild vs guild system that will add more pvp and replace the current Alliance and crusades stuff.

All in all this is still a very good game. It has it's rough edges here and there but it's much friendlier and forgiving that most other mmos.
  • Very cool. Thank you for the response. I'm going to give it a shot and do my usual of, hiding other games shortcuts, so I don't get distracted :)

Your p2w paragraph was extremely helpful. I'm DL'ing away now. Hopefully be in game tonight/tomorrow.

    Again, thank you, super helpful.

And no gear in the world will replace gear.

    uh what.

Gear disparity is obvious, but if you don't know what you are doing you will still be fodder.
  • At the moment Gear disparity is pretty close together, it's not like used to where you'd see that HUUUGE damage boost. It's enough to note that there's disparity but it's definitely not like other games where the difference is like night and standing in the sun. And the end game gear progression is pretty much gear that's given to you and you grind for either sf or imp (if you want)
and i'm pretty sure nopi meant "No gear can replace skill" just typing to fast

Guess I was trying to mean "No gear in the world can replace skill." But of course, my derp meter has to spike once or twice and stuff like that happens. :3

Tera is a mix of gear and skill. You will need both to the most you can get for better results. Sure. The super skilled can run with less gear, but there's a limit, and also it'd be a waste to be super skilled and not having better gear to make that skill really shine.

Tera is primarily directed at casuals. We dont have DKP, we dont have raid guilds, we just hop in and enjoy short (!) stuff. There are no other communities than mankind. You either have the tryhards or the laid back. We have both types of servers.
Leveling is done in 1 real day if you stick to it (see Ninja event). Tera has the (probably) fastest MMO leveling. Get a BuddyUp code until you hit lvl 9.

There is only 1 definition of P2W: I swipe my credit card and I win.
In Tera, you could throw in thousands of dollars per month and you will still be bad if you lack knowledge, skill, experience. So, per definition Tera IS NOT P2W. But of course you have those people who will tell you that even teleporting or having a good-looking costume (no joke, there was one thread about it) is P2W. Tera is P2swag, they keep the game afloat with people buying costumes+subscription.

Tera is F2P. So we dont have armies of CMs/GMs. But those who are here are quite good. We always (!) have events running (that was not so in the past), Twitch and now even a small ingame test event ([email protected]). You can even talk with them and we recently built a new interface (player council).

As long as you know that you're a casual and keep playing casual (and dont want best-in-slot within a month), Tera might be the best MMO for you.

Game's bot and gold spammer free. Servers are running stable and we have a decent content-to-market time. Tera as a korean game is the least asian-grinder I know. Of course you have time sinks in here (every MMO, RTS, adventure, etc.) has this. But you can choose what you want to do. Kill monsters, collect flowers, run dungeons, run PvP battlegrounds, whatever.
