@nobi If you are using a control pad (360?) I strongly recomend upgrading to a Steam Controller. I preordered one June 2015 and have been using it for over a year now. Before that I was exclusively playing KB/M with a few exceptions (Skyrim, BL2, PCSX2, and some JRPG console ports). Now I play everything with my Steam Controller. You hardly lose any precision that you might have with a mouse (really good track pads!) which is more than made up for with an ungodly number of buttons at your disposal. The only MMO that I've played with both KB/M and a Steam Controller is RIFT, which is absolutely not designed for a controller (it's pretty much WoW 2.0...or at least was). Once, in a dungeon, my controller's batteries died (I now run dungeons wired) and I didn't have spares handy so I switched to KB/M. I mean, I'm sitting at my desk, so why not. Unfortunately, I was the healer, and I had gotten too use to have every button I could wish for under my left thumb or on one of the two paddles which I always have fingers on. My thumb is over 1 through = and tab. The paddles have shift and ctrl. For Tera I use what is essentially the base 360 layout with extra key bindings (the controller differentiates between various lengths of presses, double presses, etc.).

edit: Note that the list I gave of what I played with a controller is an exhaustive list.

edit2: Also, before, I was using a Logitech G500 and a Das Keyboard S Silent. I recommend anyone who does any apreciable amount of typing get a Das Keyboard, by the way, or at least another high quality keyboard with Cherry MX switches (the cheaply crafted ones, which isn't the same as "cheaply priced", aren't much better than your average $50 keyboard). I also purchased a CM Storm Quick Fire for my office, but, despite being $100 keyboard, it still wasn't much better than what I was already provided. It's still better than the joint rending rubber dome type keyboards that you get everywhere, but no where near as good as my Das Keyboard which was only $40 more.

edit3: If you type a lot, do your older self, with now stiff fingers, a favor and spend the money for one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JG01QTY/ref=s9_acsd_al_bw_c_x_2. Seriously. It's cheaper than dealing with life long joint issues.

@Krovoc I do have a Steam controller. It's what I use and recommend (And just the other day I configured my PSP emulator to run with it for the lulz). Still, I feel that for MMOs, the KB+mouse may still be a better alternative. Mostly for a class like sorc. Sure, you can cram a lot of stuff into the controller(Actually all 24 binds from the extended shortcut + all movement keys + some extras, which the X360 and one pads can do as well), but still getting to most skills requires layout change buttons to be pressed. In my case, I have all classes at 65 (some more than once) and I tend to forget which skill is in what button, so while getting acquainted to the class again, I may have to go slow. This happens mostly with stuff like sorc and warrior. Classes with many 'need to do' skills. But can happen with every class in a bad day. I also try to not use x button chains much, which puts a bit more challenge to it all, though I did try and test a rather large sorc X chain by using the chained skills editor.
  • When you mean to level them up in tandem would be to level the ninja aand the sorc in tandem??
I just want to get to 65 the buddyup one for the cosmetic tickets. By the way if going sorc what race would be good for that? I can change elin finally jaja
  • Yeah. I mean leveling them up together.

    My Sorc is Castanic.

I recently leveled a new femani sorc mostly because I wanted to see the race's cloth armor, and I noted that if played with some knowledge, and I'm not talking pro because sorc is the class I'm worst at (and I'm an average player at most on my best days, and worse, I use a control pad!), but I mean, played with just basic knowledge of what the class can do, it can feel really OP in the 1-64 game. I leveled the sorc up to 20 through the normal new 1-20 quest, then it was all dungeons till 65. I noted that I was stealing aggro for most boss fights quite easily, even from ninjas, brawlers and lancers. Only one good brawler allowed me to do a clean Golden Lab run in peace without aggro. One of all the runs I did on all level up dungeons. I was hitting quite hard and dropping large chunks of boss HP bars quite quickly while also getting some awe because apparently femani sorcs are a rare sight. So yeah, my last level up experience I felt the class was pretty OP..... until I reached 65.

So I'd say that sorc's DPS "problem" comes from low skill damage scaling at 65. The skills don't scale to a level an average player can exploit, and in turn those players do much lower damage than as other classes. I strongly believe this scaling issue is what makes the class nearly exclusive to professional, legendary players like Yosha and others on the god tier ranks once it reaches end game. Because the class CAN do great DPS at the moment, but hardly anyone can make it do so. Also, for a supposed nuke class, one needs to use a fair lot of skills in a rotation, making it feel more like a sustained DPS class. This spread of damage through so many attacks probably also has something to do with the low DPS numbers your average non pro sorc player gets. The more button presses you have to shove into a rotation, the bigger the chance to miss it. I also assume that the devs decided to lower the potential damage of the big hitters because if you pump those, plus all the fillers one can put in the rotation, the damage output from pro players would be stupidly insane.

Anyway. That's what I believe about sorc right now. They may be very tricky to use in end game. But for leveling? Really. All you need is just a little know-how and the class will be doing quite some damage in that range.

Actually the main reason why you feel like you are out aggroing the boss is because Fireblast relies heavily on crit.

Contrary to what you are saying, FB has a VERY HUGE Base modifier. Avatar allows you to crit massively often without the need of any special gear or the typical crit glyphs that you want at level 65. Coupled with probably consumables if you are an elite, you can easily steal aggro from ANY player at your level, including Brawlers. I levelled a second sorc to prove that point. At level 65, you don't have much crit with basic gear even if you spec everything towards crit. You will thus feel the difference to the FOTM classes with more innate crit skills at Idoneal-point.

It was way worse in the past when you generated aggro even before the fireblast finishes casting.

  • Sooo Sorc or Ninja? No one is really touching on the revamp?
  • Revamp hasn't hit our shores yet. I imagine few of us have played the revamped'ed Sorcerer to give a decent opinion.

Yeah. I know I also have many more problems on my sorc than just scaling. I need to reroll my sorc gear. And I know I perform better at it in dungeons than soloing, but at least that's how it felt on my play through. Again, multiple characters and a much more casual schedule prevent me from playing my sorc more than once every few weeks and for like two hours at most. >.<
  • Yeah, I don't like Solo'ing with my Sorc. Too squishy to be the center of attention. When I do, I throw down a hail storm and kite around the mob. It only takes one good knockdown to put her down. Decent in dungeons though, so long as the boss doesn't spin too much (long cast times).
