Submit your boss-specific healer mini-guides!

edited September 2016 in PvE Discussion
Please submit your best "mini-guide" for healing a specific single-boss encounter as a Priest or a Mystic. I'd love to gain some new insight on healing various situations throughout Tera's dungeons. Include positioning, stat priority, timing of main support skills and any other tips or tricks you employ to make the encounter more efficient/badass.

Please don't post general healing tips, this is meant for specific scenarios and how you manage them as the healer.

In SSHM, on the last boss, if you do double circles, try to be positioned in front of Imperator as much as possible. Doing it to the side (healer's favorite position for a lot of bosses) makes him rotate, and the tank and DPS will have to reposition as a result, causing a minor loss in DPS. Don't stand directly in front of him between animations, though, as he may do his lunge attack, which will kill you unless you have very high defense.

A similar situation also occurs in MM. Stand in front (but not DIRECTLY in front) of Manglemore so that his back still faces the DPS when he lasers you. If you stand directly in front of Manglemore when he lasers you, the tank will be caught in the laser.
  • @Eishaa I'll have to remember that. I have been favoring more of a frontal position lately in general just because it seems logical to minimize boss turning, but it's definitely tricky at times.

Most important party members to heal, in order:

    1-Yourself
    2-Tank
    3-Dps

Something i took from a video, enable the option to show cd's on a separate thingy (idk how to call it). And place it right next to the aim cross, use it to check what's on cd and what isn't. As a priest you want to know when E.Stars is off cd because you want to spam that.
Its suprising, but when i played a warrior i thought e.stars had like 1 min cd, but it actually can be up 100% of the fight, you usually pay attention to lots of stuff, and most healing skills you have are lock on targets, so having which skills are off cd and which arent right next to what u use to aim the heals, is very useful.

Position yourself on the side of the boss(in most cases, not when you can get targeted with a laser like 1st SS boss), you will be able to heal both tank in front and dps in the back.
Maybe its common knowledge, but i didnt know you could use Focus Heal on teammates even if you are not seeing them, you can target people through stuff like bosses or inside those cages in DSL in idk what floor was it with the naga.

Something that as a dps i noticed priests didnt give a [filtered], was when i got kd'd more than once, healers have a skill to stand people up(Arise) that also increases balance factor???? I had no idea, priests i used to party with never used that, its so useful.

Priest easily can heal mana from dps, when playing with: Warrior, zerk, slayer, you need to use Mana Charge more than ever. I know dps's can get dyad niveots with mana regen, but when i played my warr it was just too expensive to buy niveots and pray for rngesus to give me something useful, priests can easily mantain dps's mana if they have mana draughts for when you have it off cd. This looks like commong knowledge, but it will surprise you the amount of priest that literally dont even use this skill. Others even tell you to get mana potions, like what the [filtered], im a priest my job is to heal hp/mana of my party, not only hp.

I believe many people that have only played healers dont know what kind of troubles a dps can encounter, even if its as little as using arise if dps get kd'd more than once in a short period of time, i must say i got hooked into this game again because playing a healer is a COMPLETELY different GAME than playing a dps, it blows my mind how different perspectives of the game are between someone that mains only dps and someone that only plays healer.

When you have played a dps for a long time and you start healing, the feeling of trying to Maximize dps as much as you can still remains in your head, you want to spam E.stars, triple nemesis, all the time, dps is boosted HEAVILY with this, and the feeling of boosting everyones dps because of me is great, i'd dare to say most healers focus on that, healing, while in reality most dps have lots of iframes or blocks and what we really want is our dps to be boosted, healing comes after that. Or at least thats my way of thinking.

What i'd like to ask to experienced priests is to maybe explain mechanics priests need to know about some bosses, for example i believe the last boss in TSxx the priest needs to use plague at some point? And that sort of things, i am experienced in all dungeons but there are things priest and healers in general do that you dont notice while you are [filtered] to your big numbers.

DFHM as a priest, you can rez people when they're dead inside the green puke, either Vera or Verno (2 stacks of Vera's puke is a longshot though). Depending how far they are in the puke, you can reach them from outside, place resto burst 1st, and kaia the moment they accept the rez (as you can't actually lock them on before they start moving). The whole thing costs around 50% of your mana, so I wouldn't do it unless you have mana charge off cooldown. If they're beyond reach in the puke, divine respite will keep you alive in it while casting rez.

Again, it's only worth it on high-priority members, like tanks or top dps.

    Derps double post
  • @Based12 thanks for your thoughts and advice, some good tips there but I'm looking for guides on specific boss fights, like how you solo-heal ABHM, what personal techniques do you employ to maintain the distance needed on krakatox while still managing the party's debuff bleed. Stuff like that. There are plenty of general healing guides, I want scenerios!

Im following this because i really want to know that too. Been priesting for 4 days, so cool thread!
  • Awesome man, keep at it. It's really fun when you find your style and really start learning your priest. They can do amazing things.

    SSHM:
    1st Boss:
    - this pertains to me personally as a mystic, but I never got the "iframe when he curls this" trick for lasers, so I count to three WHEN he starts charging the laser (not immediately!)
Some people find it easier the other way but by counting to three I no longer have to look at the boss. This HELPS A TON if I am caught somewhere where I am closer to the boss than my range of jaunt and I can't backup (example would be if boss is near a wall and I'm on the side with the wall) , because if I teleport through him I can potentially kill teammates. By not looking and counting to three I can teleport the opposite direction.
    2nd boss:
    - this is also for mystic but make sure you do not use your contagion right away when the boss starts. Tanks usually enrage either after the 3rd laser or after the first pizza. That's when you should use that skill.
    3rd boss:
    - Basically what was already said by Eishaa, but another thing to add is if the tank can't move the boss and he is on the wall, you can slightly move him with double circles by doing it so that his back is against the wall, it may not seem like it will help but when Imperator targets the first circle on someone, he takes a step in that direction, so if you really need to move him, you can do that.

    DSU:
    Floor 16:
    - the mechanic where he walks to the middle and kneels is per 20% (80/60/40/etc) for this if you are a mystic you are supposed to cast your thrall of vengeance and time your totem so that the totem and the thrall take a debuff, there are 3 debuffs total but it's much easier to heal 1 person with a heavy dot rather than 3.

    Floor 18:
    - DO NOT USE THRALLS. Thralls can be detected by overseers which will result in bombs all over the place. Before the boss spawns it's a good idea to buff your party with the protection thrall, and immediately despawn him with thrall of life as it doesn't have a long duration.

    Floor 19:
    - this applies to both healers but the most common place to stand is to the right of the tank kind of near him because it will be less of a hassle to dodge lasers as you can just walk to the left with the tank.

    Floor 20:
    - this is a very small thing but for priests you will probably need to use arise somewhere here (actually same goes for floor 17 for that matter) so make sure you watch for retaliates

    Floor 21:
    - if mystic, just as you can for double circles on imperator, if you get targeted by the circle where he flies up, you can use corruption ring with the glyph rather than jaunt if you really need to.

    Floor 22:
    - since most of DSU runs are double heal, you will probably be expected to take double debuffs (example 2, then 1 3, then 1 2) so make sure you know how to do that and you know which healer is doing what debuff in case you forget yours or they die and you need a dps to take one
    - the Great Ones mechanic is a 3 stack buff that is cleansable from the boss so make sure you use regression/plague BEFORE the stack gets to 3. If it gets to 3 and it's not close to walk you are basically [filtered].
    - when walk occurs make sure you are pretargetting whoever is getting puddles because that first tick of damage can hurt them pretty badly
    - this is not even just for healers but carry 2-3 different types of blessings (1 of each) and save it for walk. If you die below 7% it is not impossible but extremely hard to ress people during this phase, and you don't want to be down if she does a stand during walk phase.
    - keep an eye on everyone's debuffs, if they get swapped and don't have vow or grace then you can have them stand next to you and begin casting ress as they are dying so they can get up immediately
    - lastly for stands PLEASE help out your other healer! Pretarget them and heal them as soon as they take their second debuff because their health can get pretty low especially if Kaia is not up at the time for whatever reason (please try to save Kaias for stand unless you REALLY need it before then)
It's also not a bad idea to stand on the same side as the other healer so you can help each other out easier.

*sorry for the long and slightly unorganized post! I thought of things as I went lol
  • Thanks @Pinopy that's awesome dsu info.

I've been working on some mini tutorials that shows some of the skills and techniques I have created on boss mechanics and situations based on the status of your party. I have spent many hours helping others in learning runs so I have had my fair share of disastrous events and self learned how to overcome them and keep the party going. Unfortunately, I never really make the time to compile them into a single dungeon guide...

I do have a couple of videos I made such as this one...

    "SSHM Imperator Mechanics"
This video here is a great example of the boss mechanics at work. As you can see, a Mystic can manipulate the boss by positioning and skill usage thus causing the boss to delay or queue back attacks such as spawning mobs...

Most people know about using Resurrection to force the boss to do circle aoes up to two times. However, there is so much more you can do to increase the delay and add more burn time or recover time for the team. Adding in a double debuff target and bypassing the snare will create even more of a delay as the boss now will have to do two more things before summoning mobs...

    1. He will have to do re-targeting once more...
    2. He will throw the last targeted player if that player is within range...

You can also add in additional Resurrections to delay even more. This was a strategy I practiced prenerfed when burn started at 20% instead of 15% and has helped many people I ran with on their first clears...
  • Can't quote cuz mobile but no problem OP! I updated it for queen and added a lot of info for her because tbh I accidentally posted the thing before I was done haha...
  • Haha rip. The pains of posting on mobile. @Pinopy
  • @SadisticMystic So you can iframe the part where he skewers you, smashes you around, and then throws you at someone... did not know that XD

So wait, when he does that random secondary aggro where he throws you to the farthest edge of the map, it's always the last player that was targeted?

But timing is different depending on whether he's enraged or not?
