As a healer how do you feel about the duo-heal meta?

    It benefits skilled parties more.

Duo healing wasn't really meant to be a "safer" route or for learning runs. It's mostly used for faster clears and extra DPS because of stacking debuffs. Duo healing with bad DPS will actually result in longer fights, (if your DPS'ers are bad, then solo healing will be better to make fights shorter).

    .

Yeah. That's why I don't take +12 dps for 2 healer party. But, I do have +12 alts. If there is +15 imp ninja with 2 healers, I don't want to join the party with +12 zerker alt. People still share dps result.

As a healer, I don't care much about whether I'm alone or with a partner. I'll still do my thing, won't just sit back and wait for the other guy to do the job. We can share certain tasks to make things go faster/smoother and that's pretty much it....
  • My only experience as a healer (mystic) and dps (gunner) with Duo Heals is in raids, I haven't been paired up with another healer in 4 man dungeons yet. I still do my heal-y thing and debuff the boss. I really don't really mind, it's nice to have some room to make mistakes as certain squishy class just enjoy sitting in things they shouldn't. Like I had a warrior in my party once that seem literally made out of paper, one hit and half his health was just gone. He was more trouble than the ninjas, needing almost constant healing.

As a DPS it is also just fine with me, I am not really much for speed runs unless I forgot they were doing maintenance today and had 30-20 mins to finish a raid. Poor priest, some dps practically just face tanked the damage.

P.S.: As a mystic, I have yet to encounter a mystic/priest that just focused on dps.The only times I did have a dps healer was as a dps.

i hate duo heal, even in 10mans i enjoy solo heal more. i really like being challenged and having someone else helping/competing with me to get my fairly simple job done, just sucks all the fun out of running things, at least for me.

i understand dps like big numbers which is why i don't complain a lot, but there's no challenge in having another person help you out when you only need to keep 4 other people alive. especially because i'm a priest main and can wipe my [filtered] on the keyboard and still have all my aoes hit
  • I think duo heals has its place in 10 man and higher raids, but in 5 man dungeons it does more harm than good.

Ultimately, new players who are learning the dungeon get crippled by it. I can't tell you how many people I've met that CANNOT solo heal. I've even had tanks and DPS that refuse to run without double healer. I don't think it positively impacts the healers. The DPS? Sure, you get to do crazy high numbers, but the healer's lose out on valuable experience.

Having double heals isn't necessarily a problem but relying on it is. If you cannot solo heal content, then you are not up to par in terms of skill. Unfortunately, some people that fall into this aren't to blame. I know a lot of healer friends that WANT to solo heal and learn, but parties won't let them. The pressure from the community, in my opinion, restricts the growth of at least a few healers.

I've played Priest and Mystic since ABHM.

On a healer I hate it, it takes all the fun of healing out of the game and I spend more time trying to kill the other healer with Priest leash than anything else out of boredom. As Tank or DPS sure it helps with Damage but eh..............

I usually solo heal unless we're carrying/training a new healer. Other than that i dont like doing duo healer because it feels like i have less to do, since its 2 healers in the group. But it does make for a nice safety net in harder dungeons c:
Basically i like the challenge of solo healing and take pride in that °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°

EDIT: After reading some of the comments.. Do you think duo heal hinders the growth of new players to the role? As in, do you think it slows down their player skill progress in the class due to always having another healer around?
To answer this id say YES it hinders their growth as a healer! i think its ok to duo heal through a dungeon if the healer is new and still learning. but after awhile its time to cut the safety lines and let them experience healing all on their own. ive come across quite a few healers who cant or refuse to solo heal, which is probably because they're so use to duo healing that they arent confident in healing solo.
  • I solo-healed DFNM today with no1 dying, it was fun, but theres no need to have only 1 healer on something like last boss, its way better to have a healer for the tank in front and a healer fo the dps in the back.

I dont think its worth to have 2 healers in a 5man party unless you have 3 extremely high dps and oyu have priest+mystic, only then i think its worth it.
  • I dont really like double heal but kinda used to it now. I remember it becoming a thing at the end of TSHM patch where I was 'wtf why??' since it was more like carrying the other healer than doing equal tasks and I expected people learning on their own.
On my tank or dps i prefer running with double healer for mana or at least with a mystic though, so I can understand dps asking for double.
  • The only 5 man dungeons i would consider double healing in is SSHM and DS U manaya, those can be a killer if you make even 1 error, yes i've solo healed SSHM before but duo heal makes it feel easier but won't mean i slack on endurance debuffs or such.

I like the current meta with duo healers, mostly through a social perspective. As a healer main who is friends with other healers, I remember joking with them in the past saying we would never be able to hang out and do any pve content together. Now that its possible, I can bond with my fellow healer friends and grind dungeons switching from priest to mystic. While doing so, I've learned numerous tips on how to play my class in certain dungeons and utilize it well.

I don't think this meta hinders the growth of new players to the role, it actually gives more opportunity to witness and learn from others. This also promotes new healers to tackle down harder content. I know from experience that it's somewhat intimidating to jump into harder dungeons during the pure solo healing days. Even in training runs, the run becomes 100x more difficult if the healer was just as confused and inexperienced as the dps in the party. It can be somewhat demotivating. So having an additional healer in the party would ease up the pressure of being the sole reason your party wipes and increase the likelihood of clearing.

In terms of skill, I honestly believe its up to the individual to decide if they want to improve. Rather than blaming duo healing for incompetent healers, I would say it is purely up to the player to decide if they would use this meta as a stepping stone to improve oneself or to stay mediocre. The same can be said for other classes; there are some who seek to master their skills and others who stay stagnant with somewhat decent or dare I say low-grade skills.

Personally, I've never really encountered a problem with the option to solo or duo heal. Usually the party leader would ask if you preferred solo or duo and recruit accordingly. If not, become the party leader and recruit what you prefer. Technically solo healing doesn't determine skill level, just preference. Same goes for duo healing :)

Hmm the only fact i really dislike about it that a lot of people just use their mystic alts and get carried into hm dungeons/dsu. Some don't even go on their priests or dps if its their main for those runs. These things didnt happen earlier, it was either you are able to learn the dungeon or not..
A lot of healers are ONLY doing duo heals and only if the other healer is able to carry them. A lot of people also like to skip the initial learning phase of the dungeons where all dps/healers are unexperienced and wait few weeks till friends can invite them to exp runs as well~
  • For me, double healer makes my job extremely easy... to the point of being mindless. One healer (usually mystic) just runs around, often out of combat, and debuffs the boss while the priest heals. Either role is boring, but it makes playing mystic nearly unbearable for me during uppers. Mystics also have an easy time keeping their debuff up times high, so it feels very meh for me. The bright side is that if I ever decide to be lazy, my party won't pay for that, and training runs for healers is very easy if the other healer can solo heal.

Most fights are boring for duo heal (and in general). But on the fights that matter, you can't really be lazy.

Example, you cannot be lazy duo healing on queen while taking two debuffs each stand. I think taking two debuffs is harder than letting the healer skip and let each DPS take. SSHM has mobs that spawn, you can't just ignore these.
  • Much of what @Bunnic said is pretty spot on about my feelings for double healing vs solo healing. I don't have any personal problems with either one, because both are fine. Simple as that. I'll go further into my feelings about it for anyone that cares, though.

I've been playing Tera as a Mystic only since January, and it was hard getting into the endgame dungeons. Virtually all of my runs up until KDHM and FIHM were IMS, so I was solo healing for most of my early experience in endgame dungeons. One thing that definitely would have made those early runs easier to handle woulda been having a priest. Every little mistake (and OF COURSE newbies will make mistakes) I made carried significantly more weight as a solo healer, and something as simple as having a priest woulda made those times a lot less stressful and uninviting.

I encourage healers less experienced to go on double healer runs for dungeons they're new to before attempting to solo heal that dungeon, WITH THE GOAL of eventually being able to confidently solo heal that dungeon, and I encourage experienced healers to not be adverse to running double heal so that less experienced healers can have a chance to learn the dungeon, or so that other healers can have an easier time finding parties (it's a really distasteful thing for me personally to be told no simply because the healer that's already in the party wants to solo heal, and I'm sure it is distasteful for others who have had this happen to them, too).
