Why are so many people convinced they will be forced to PvP?

This phenomena of former HW players who have been running around, afraid and grieving over having to PvP is completely beyond my comprehension. I am not trying to bash you guys. Am I missing something? Can someone provide a decent reason why I, as a HW care bear, can expect to be drawn into PvP against my wishes? Because so far, from my experience, and expectations prior to the merge, it doesn't look like I could OWPvP if I wanted to, let alone expect to be the victim of someone else's player directed aggression.

    because they don't know better.

Make a video of yourself going outlaw (or you can do the reverse) and running the fields of fey forest. No one is there to really for you to gank (if reverse to gank you).
  • I have better things to do with my time. Like attacking those IoD training dummies.

Cuz there are some [filtered] that think just because the server say pvp you have to do pvp or else you're wrong and that you won't be able to do pve... "[filtered] ppl"

I don't think starting thread number 1,000 over this issue is going to give you an answer you will want, considering this has been answered in more than 1 thread.
  • I haven't seen a respectable answer. Also, all threads I've seen so far have been of the "ZOMG IMMA GONNA GET PK'ED" variety with more ranting about how unfair it is than actual talking about the issue.
  • I also don't think that 'many' people are convinced that they are forced to pvp.
Honestly I think its like just 5-10 people that grieving that they have to pvp.
Or maybe just one, with multiple accounts, i don't know.

Your thread has the same tone as the posts you're criticizing. I also said, if you didn't find an answer you wanted, then you never are going to seeing as it has been answered, in multiple different ways.
  • Hm... that is unfortunate. The main selling point of Fey Forest is owpvp 65, a fair & balance owpvp experince. If lack of owpvp activity, it will do no good in long run. Maybe readjust the min level of owpvp participation at lvl 60 will refine the idea a little more.
Anyway, I'm glad to the see the active chat flow and a tiny bit of LFG improvement.

@Yamazuki Another user posted before I finally submitted. This is in responce to your last post.

Then point me to the answer. If the answer exists, and you have seen it, then present it.

Also, at least as far as my opening post goes, I am not grieving. I have nothing to grieve over in regards to having my server merged into a PvP server. Or at least I don't think I do. That is a huge difference between this thread and the previous ones. I am not expressing outrage, demanding that things be put right, or declaring myself as having been wronged.

Do not lump this thread in with those other threads just because you seem to be in possession, or think you do at least, of some bit of information I am lacking. Information I am seeking, in fact.

I was referring to tone, as well as context of the situation. You could have two people make the same exact statement for instance and it give off entirely different meanings depending on both tone and context of the situation.

My response is not based on anything I know that you may or may not know. It was with the context of the situation kept in mind. Repetitive threads also are typically not something encouraged on forums.
  • To a certain degree, I think do understand where they're coming from. I think it's two main issues:

    1) This isn't something that some players even want to have to think/worry about. They don't want it to ever factor into their possible gameplay experiences at all, and so it was an important reason they chose the server they did -- specifically to avoid the entire possibility, no matter how unlikely. Just knowing it's a possibility adds to their stress, and reduces their ability to relax and enjoy the game.

    2) They want to avoid players that have PvP attitudes. This again aside from the actual risk of being killed, the people they play with can be more aggressive and vicious than casual PvE servers, which can feel more light and care-free. (For people in this category, they may not play any other competitive content either, like Alliance, Crusades, Battlegrounds, etc. simply due to disliking the culture/attitudes.)

I guess you can see it more like "Cooperative" vs. "Competitive." Some people's enjoyment hinges really strongly on avoiding the competitive side of the game completely, and being purely "vs. CPU." (Or, at the very least, having very strict control on when they want to choose to engage in competitive content.)

I do think that, despite all this, the arguments people make sometimes come across too strongly and imply that things are much worse than they really are. I think a purely objective look at the nature of the gameplay mechanics suggests a very low risk which is probably acceptable to most PvE players (since this is the only style of server in K-TERA, and most of them are PvE players). But for people who feel particularly strongly about the above two points, it's not necessarily something that can be mitigated. It's just a fundamental unmovable preference. And that was why, for those people, it was important to at least provide an option. I also understand that these people feel that the option is too costly, and it makes sense they feel that way. But at the same time, considering the big picture, it was necessary in order for the merger to work.

In an ideal world, the game would be changed so that it's possible for someone to flag themselves as being PvP-immune (so long as they're not participating in specific competitive content that requires it), and that would solve the problem. But over the short term, expecting BHS to program anything for this is probably low on the list, considering this is the arrangement they've had in K-TERA forever.

First person to understand the whole picture.

    Thank You.
  • PvE carebear here. I was playing on a PvP server when I was active in WoW, so I know both sides. Counterpoint made up the mentality, I'll shine some light on the pratical stuff.

    - as PvE carebear, I dont have any (much) PvP gear, knowledge, glyphing, at best some PvP crystals for CS
    - my playstyle is to go afk anytime because family, simultaneously cooking or whatever (except dungeons ofc)
    - PvP is a group game. A single PvP player doesnt attack a group of 5. So if I'm running alone, I'm always the victim
    - I have a schedule to run. E.g. doing dailies in a certain timeframe because running 4 alts. Incoming PvP would stir it up
    - the usual gamestyle of a PvP player is going forward and constantly turning the camera 360° around. It took me a while to learn this, but in the end I find it exhausting
    - I dont have the time nor I'm in the mood to get bombed with "LOLOLO noob I killed you again" or "GTFO cheater stop killing me". Trash talk was fun when I was young, I guess I grew too old
    - PvP players grow into some kind of local server hierarchy (like in jail). There are gangs (guilds) that have the firepower and manpower you better not attack. There are unknown single players/small guilds you can stomp anytime because you belong to a strong guild. I'm not into this
