OS Compatibility

There should be Linux and Mac OS versions of TERA. I personally have two friends who would like to play TERA, but they can't because their computers are all Linux operating systems. I would like it if this problem were fixed soon, as I am sure there are plenty of Linux and Mac users out there who would love to play TERA, but can't.

While I agree, I believe Tera is still a small operation compared to games like WoW, with massive resources to make their game available to more operating systems. In contrast, Tera even had to remove support for Windows XP when that OS ended it's life cycle.
  • Thought i read somewhere that BHS was in the works of making TERA multiple platform? PS4 & XBOX?
    But i actually didn't know Mac and Linux user's can't play :(
    Operating Systems for the loss

  • Let me clarify beforehand, I'm a full time Linux user dual booting windows for TERA (and other things such as photoshop).

They removed support for XP to get rid of the cost of supporting an unsupported OS. Any company that's not specifically marketing to other companies that use outdated software such as win XP, made the same move.

They asked for people to test for the above a while ago. Here's the thing though:
The ps4 and xbone have tons of people using them and playing games on them. Linux's market share is small and not just comparatively.
Most OSX computers are used as glorified Facebook machines or developer workstations. Taking these things into consideration, it would simply not be good business for them to put in the work required to port TERA to these OSs.
Much as I would love to be running TERA on Linux, we have to remember that BHS is a company and all that matters to them is profit.
  • It is a PITA to set up, and you need decent hardware, but TERA will run on Linux under wine.

    AMD FX(tm)-4350 Quad-Core Processor
    Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Tobago PRO [Radeon R7 360 / R9 360 OEM]

    radeon driver
wine-staging 1.7.54 (vanilla wine has certificate problems)
winetricks vcrun2013 (fixes crash accepting quests)
winetricks flash (if you have ui problems in game. optional?)

You may need to block facebook.com in your /etc/hosts file to run the installer. Safe to unblock after install is finished.

It helps to kill the launcher once in-game to free up a cpu.
