Tera Boost_Interprocess?

Hello great community of Tera, so what is Boost_Interprocess. Because in ProgamData Folder if i Delete Boost_Interprocess folder and then open Tera it re-creates that folder back again. The files inside the folders are file extensions name (Message_queue with a bunch of numbers at the end) I'm just curious is this some type of encrypter. Because i remember with cloudfogger or something related to that Kelihos.A thingy :open_mouth:

Anyways, this is a newly fresh Hard Drive with newly installed OS yesterday, so i'm just curious what is this? :D

  • Description
"Boost.Interprocess" simplifies the use of common interprocess communication and synchronization mechanisms and offers a wide range of them:
    1. Shared memory
    2. Memory-mapped files
    3. Semaphores, mutexes, condition variables and upgradable mutex types to place them in shared memory and memory mapped files.
    4. Named versions of those synchronization objects, similar to UNIX/Windows sem_open/CreateSemaphore API
    5. File locking
    6. Relative pointers
    7. Message queues

Generally, it's a part of windows. What it's saying is it's used to send messages back and forth between computer hardware, almost. It's nothing related to TERA. But viruses can get into this file if installed correctly and have exceptional speed spreading through-out your computer. But, don't panic, message_queue_xxxx is a part of the OS.
  • Yea i was just curious why would Tera use such a thing, reminded of that backdoor trojan virus. Well i have ESET Smart Security, malwarebytes, and malwarebytes anti-exploit. I'm guessing i'm pretty secure, but i dont see the point of all these if you only play video games, and surf youtube, anime's, FB, Twitter, and whatnot.

Message queues are what brings information between network and your drivers. So for example in the most simplest terms: Watching youtube uses the network, to transfer video information, IP, localization, etc it needs to send a message from the network to the drivers to perform this action, action being xxxx <no general data except bits>.

To speak as an IT, I wouldn't want to panic what's in C:/ProgramData(hidden), it's left to be like this to make sure casual users don't break their system, just like my parents have.
  • haha i never broke mine, it breaks itself jks :proud: Yea thanks man for letting me know, i appreciate it!
