Returning player merged to new server
I've been gone for almost a year, and just came back yesterday.
Imagine my bafflement as a former HW resident to find all my characters on a new server, merged with VoT and LoT.
I've spent the better part of downtime trying to figure it all out and weigh the pros and cons but I still have questions that I haven't found clear answers for.
1. Can I still get a transfer to AV?
2. Can I transfer all of my characters, or only as many as I have slots for? (I have six toons total, and three more slots on FF)
3. I've never done a character transfer before. Will my transferring toons be unplayable once I put in for the transfer? How long will it take?
4. Is there anyone on AV who can give me some insight on how it is?
I came back to a dead guild and I'm usually a late afternoon/evening player EST. Last night FF seemed pretty dead. Granted, I decided to level up a new toon to get the feel for the game again instead, but even on my 65s the server felt pretty lonely compared to how it was when I left right after Thanksgiving last year. Just trying to figure out if I should take advantage of maybe moving my toons while I can if AV may be more active during the time that I play. PvP or PvE doesn't really sway my decision even though I was starting to get into PvP before I left, and that's usually what I do in MMOs.

You can transfer as many characters as you have slots in AV. Now, if you have less than 16 slots there, you should have also gotten 4 character slots. You can simply put those on a character you move to AV and use the slots on AV.
From what I remember (baaaaack then when transfers were free), transfers didn't take too long. A few minutes at most.
As for AV and FF being active. You could try making a new character in AV and travel around to see how things are at the hours you play. If you like what you see, then transfer the rest.
Most is already said, but again
1. You can always transfer, but only until the 15th it is free of charge
2. If you have a F2P account (no founder), you will only have 2 slots on AV. Empty/already bought slots are not being moved. To transfer all 6, you will have to buy 4 more slots on AV.
3. I transfered 1 character this weekend. It takes like 5 seconds to transfer.
4. As Nopi said, it depends on your time. We have a EU prime tima and a NA prime time. My personal impression is that FF has a lot of people in EU prime time, so if you play EST, you might have hit an unlucky day or it really is less in EST. If you're in for PvP, you should find more PvP people on FF as the PvE players like me all went to AV.
I spent some time today on FF leveling a brand new character (already at 52, fastest I've leveled one yet. Less than a day ;>>) and by about 6pm the crowds started emptying out. I went ahead and transferred one toon over to AV and I'm already very happy with my choice. I find the social aspect of MMOs to be rather important - if all the people you play with are on another server, why not just go there?
Gonna work on moving everyone else over. The transfer didn't even take 5 seconds. As soon as I submitted the transfer, there was a message in my e-mail box saying it was complete.
