And how many DPS and/or tank classes? That's like having a car yard full of Jeeps and Sports cars and saying the two Station wagons in there is enough.
I'm not saying we need more healers. But, we don't need more DPS and tanks. It's a matter of variety. How about some kind of necromantic healer, or whatever... one which draws health from the enemy and then takes that life force (or a portion of it), and applies it to themself of their allies.
As for which race the new class will be class locked to it probably will NOT be elin. Keep in mind the reason we have class/gender locked chars is because designing those classes for each race/gender would take an unforeseeable amount of time.. so would you rather get semi-frequent new class releases that are locked.. or get 1 new class every 10 years because they spent the time designing that 1 class for all race/gender.. personally i like new things frequently..
Also the way they chose which race/gender to lock new classes to is based on statistics of most played race/gender, first new class release was the reaper, it was locked to elin because at the time elin was the most played class.. thast all fine and well but then that is was inevitably ruined that method of deciding because from then on there was naturally even more people playing elins(which of course adds to the female stat count) because they had to for reaper, and so on with gun/brawl/ninja, up till the point were at now where they still claim "more people prefer females" which i of course believe there's more female chars in game but again that's only because all the new classes released have been female locked.. i'm not saying i like this method, personally if they wanna use those stats to chose which to lock then i think they should take another look at the stats but not include reaper/gunner/brawler/ninja since they are the major cause for female count being so high. If they do continue to use the current method then i can see why you'd think elin would get the next lock, but despite popular opinion EME does take our feedback to BHS and i think enough people have spoken out against the current method at this point that BHS may actually change the way they chose it next time around.
You say that but they made brawler when we had 2 very distinct tank classes. They just pushed warrior out of the way to take their place and throw zerk under the bus almost immediately. Also a lot of classes share skills more or less already: shout taunts, leaping strike, dash, charging slash, etc.
The problem is likely that healer classes aren't as exciting and therefore don't make money to appeal. It's hard to sell it. A new op dps class that can solo everything grabs attention I guess. The entire reason lancers can do good damage now is because of brawler's marketed op-ness that had to be balanced. If a new class isn't op not many people will care.
You could make a 3rd healer class. They've already diluted mystics to be more like priests. In fact it could be more than just a healer. You could have a healer/tank hybrid (with mostly aoe healing) or a healer/dps hybrid. Like a class that has healing skills but is not primarily a healer. Much like how a sorc can cast sleep but is not a healer - or like a warrior/archer can cast an endurance debuff but isn't a tank or healer. In fact, I see that as more probable than a new pure healer. They don't necessarily have to be primary healers they could be secondary healers that go along with a priest/mystic. I didn't even get paid to come up with that. I'm sure BHS could figure something out if they felt like it. Oh but it'd have to be Elin.
BUT, and stopping it right there in the tracks, I would have personally stopped with the classes long ago, and focused in trying to make more imaginative content to do, instead of having more classes to do the same or repainted content with.
That reminded me of God Eater. A game for PSP (now also on Steam) They had Healing bullets.
yes naturally some skills do cross multiple or all classes.. but your talkign about basic things, im talking about the core skills that would make the class unique, hence why i said 90% instead of something like 50%, 50% same skills would still be lame imo but it would make sense, however my statement was directed more toward the fact that theres not alot of viratey to be had when it comes to healing skills.. theres lock on and aoe, ranged and close ranged, motes, auras, direct buff, indirect buffs, debuffs, etc, put simply the majority of healer abilities that have ever been thought of for any game already exists between the 2 healers we have, therefore making a new UNIQUE healer present a challenge when compared to making a new dps.
A: "exciting" is based on opinion, you may not be exicted by healing while plenty of others find it both more exciting and more challenging than other roles.
B:Your correct about Op classes selling, keep in mind that the devs dont see the game the way we do, to us players its a magical world, to devs its a business, and their job is to keep us in game as much as possible, so yes they follow an age-old formula for doing just that: make new OP classes to esnure everyone spends another chunk of their life in game... expecting anything less than that is just foolish on your part..
Yea.. lets add a heal/tank or heal/dps hybrid..oh but wait then the people that make them are just gonna QQ when they get to endgame and no one takes them in LFG for the same reason that a lot of people don't take warr/zerk tanks.. because warr/zerk CAN tank.. but lancer/brawler do it better..
and that's precisely why you don't get paid to come up with things..
Warrior never really was all about damage to get threat. And lancer was never purely aggro to get threat. Both had a middle ground. Warrior was just better at the damage when geared and played right. Maybe I didn't word it well but I'm saying that we had 2 perfectly good tank classes that were fine when played right. Brawler came along and none of the attention was given to warrior tanks so they're no longer considered a tank class. So yes they were absolutely positively undeniably replaced by brawlers.
Side note: Do you remember when warrior tank used to actually be evasive before being diluted to be more like lancer? Very similar to what happened to mystic to make it more like priest. Another reason why I had suspected we might have gotten another healer class with that trend.
Your opinion doesn't matter. My opinion doesn't matter. Only the popular opinion that makes money. This should be obvious.
As for things I'd want? Unlocks on some of the "new" classes for additional races. Amani Brawler or riot. Elf-dude Gunners, ffs. Frankly, the only time I considered the given lore appropriate was back with Reapers. The rest is just
excuses, IMHO.
they stole from Vindictus when they made brawlers with their left-click right-click combos, so I wouldn't be surprised if they stole from Blade and Soul :awesome: (though I think something more like a melee/ranged soul fighter would be more current and dynamic)
