Still no word from EME on Civil Unrest

It's almost like when someone calls out of work without calling to let their co-workers or boss know... except many of us pay to play this game and wait for new content to drop for literally months. Yes, I understand they are allowed and entitled to at any time drop servers or discontinue an event that was supposed to start to fix issues.. what I DON'T however get is how they can be silent for a full 24 hours without a single word to their community to apologize for letting us all down. For an entire week many of us prepared for this and some of us even took off of work, cancelled plans and so on. For any MMO - doing this to your community is actually inexcusable. MMO's often require attendance for new content or events... yet the only absent one's were EME.

This is not a post to show how angry we are about technical difficulties.. it's a post about how it's dealt with and how EME thinks it's okay to duck and hide for the weekend while we all missed out on the fun that we were expecting and anticipating. I don't know wether they are working behind the scenes to fix things right now but as far as the community knows they aren't. Why? Because they don't tell us. A simple post that takes about 5 minutes to just address that there were some mishaps and that they would reschedule or maybe compensate us for the technical issue's. Communicating with your community is important and needs to be done properly. That is basic customer service relations that EME is lacking entirely.

Let's talk about how we endure through thousands of bugs on a daily basis and don't complain.. because most of us are entirely understanding and appreciate the work EME does. I have had bugs ruin my EMP purchases. I have had bugs rob me of loot. I have had bugs make the game completely unplayable. And I have not mentioned a thing. Up until now.

This is unprofessional. I know people who spend hundreds of dollars on this game per month and the bottom line is IT IS NOT FREE for all of us.. and we expect to be treated like paying customers AND IF NOT - as your loving community who keep this game alive.

Not a single comment on the issue... not one 24 hours later. This is not how you deal with things as a company that sells cash shop product and expects the community to keep the game alive.

A full dragon is less scary than a hungry one, right?

There's an update here concerning today's server trouble. See the first post.

So the hamsters on the treadmills powering the servers were eaten? That explains things,.

Is that their end game? Merge all servers into one big PVP65 roleplay sever?

Psst its sunday. EME doesn't work on sundays. They most likely don't even know about the 2 hour server crash that happened yesterday night.

They probably "know", but won't deal with it until their Monday morning meeting, since the event is already screwed anyway. I imagine communication will happen at that time too. Probably also a nasty conference call with BHS. The people dealing with the on-call last night were probably just the technicians, and they're not authorized to make production statements on the forums (i.e. to address what they're going to do about it going forward).

I don't disagree with the sentiment that, given the nature of the event, it would have made sense to have the community team and production teams on call to handle communication and coodination... but yeah.

The big problem with having these sorts of events on the weekend is that it's the time when EME is least available to address problems. Most of the employees work Monday through Friday even though the weekend is much more important for gamers. But that was EME's fault when they hired everyone in the first place.
  • like someone stated, usually over weekends publishers will leave 2-3 ppl on watch duty. So whoever was there during this was just there to fix technical issues that may arise, not make public statements. Sad that it happened but that's the reality.

Best laugh I've had in a while.

On a serious note though, as Counterpoint said, the people that fixed the servers would have just been techs. If you remember the Producer Letter from the beginning of the year, EME has made mistakes with their public addresses in the past and I imagine they are now excruciatingly careful to analyse any statement before releasing it to the public. This means that they aren't going to have someone who had to drop everything and deal with server issues over the weekend try to release a public statement, particularly considering they wouldn't have been in the most calm and collected state of mind after doing so (figuring out why a particular bug is causing issues can be frustrating work). Especially if they'd taken even one look at the forums after the crash with literally hundreds of complaints and demands from the community.
  • Just put it like this.

When the office doors are closed, What can you do?
    It's a F2P MMORPG after all.
You really can't expect the best.

And if you think buying EMP or a monthly subscription entitles you to something?
Reality check. It doesn't grant you special powers :(

Best you can do is. Breath, Open a window and get some sunlight into your room.
Be glad they actually had techs there to address the servers going down and bring them back online.

But they seriously have been dropping the ball as of late.
And I'm not just talking about the "Civil Unrest" Patch

It's a F2P game with an optional subscription and tons of microtransactions and real money gambling boxes. It's not something they do for free; they make a bunch of money off of it (and in shady ways too, with gambling, this dragon mount box situation, Hello Kitty situation and so on). They aren't hosting the game out of the goodness in their hearts but because they're making money. We can and should demand some level of professionalism from EME.
