Loading pain

Why is it that after every patch, the game takes longer and longer to load. It seemed to really get bad w/ the patch that added the tunnel vision before character select. What gives? Why is the game load time such garbage? I have the tera folder exempt from antivirus/spyware/malware detection. Initially, that seemed to help but the initial load time is just garbage lately. Has EME addressed this?

Comments

  • step 1: Get a SSD
step 2: Install Tera onto SSD
    step 3: Enjoy 2second loads :)

SSD baby! Helps with other games also, not just Tera.
  • Eventually I will buy a ssd.. Really though, load times weren't an issue until the last few patches.. EME should just fix whatever it is they broke so the issue resolves itself.

Agreed, didnt have much issue here either, though load times seem a bit longer now after the patch/emergency maintenance stuff

SSD won't always give you 2 second loads if the CPU and other components are not fast. SSDs are really into the "your mileage may vary" realm depending on the configuration of your other components. So, before venturing into an SSD...

Make sure that when running Tera, the computer is running as few other applications and services as you can get them to run.
Make sure the hard disk you are running Tera on has more than 30-35 GB free, This helps with loading and patching the client.
Toss your entire tera folder into your anti virus exceptions list so it's not always scanning stuff on it.

Basically this means to take extra loads off so your PC has more resources to run the game faster.

As for the patches themselves, most are first given by BHS and that's what EME has to work with, so in most cases, whatever extra loading times the current patch has, they come from BHS. Sure, we do hope EME is able to do something to make the patch start faster. Though so far in my case I still see the vortex screen that wasn't there before. And I have an SSD. :/
  • That vortex is the worst part of it.. It's like they want to give their players a seizure or something.

Just like with other hardware, Tera does not make full use of an SSD. I use an SSD, the ones that are actually in the motherboard so it's faster, and Tera doesn't load much faster, compared to any other application or even Windows itself all starting up instantly.
