Is Tera going in right direction?
Hi! I've been playing Tera for quite a bit of time, and I am a bit concerned about recent in-game changes. I feel like the game is becoming more and more grindy with every update - sure, a new gear/accessory every patch is something obvious as Tera endgame is all about gearing up. Most ppl got used even to controversial awakening system. But it looks like we are getting more and more things to grind - new innerwear, brooches, dragon buff, guild skills...
You may say that 'these are optional', it is a small increase', but sum up all these +3-5% dmg from quatrefoil, inner, dragon, maze accessories etc.and if we keep getting more and more of them it will really make a difference. Especially these guild buffs - +5 Power, +5 Crit, flat HP bonus... It's more than getting t3 etchings instead of t2, superior inners instead of cheap blue one and getting additional +HP gear line. Alliance grinding affected only alliance content, new system grinding affects ALL PvE and PvE content.
Some say that 'it is a free buff, it hurts no one'. It is a bonus only for current content. Once most ppl get these buffs they will just keep scaling up new bosses with more HP/DMG/crit resist to make it equally hard. If everyone is buffed, no one is.
I am afraid that Tera may reach a point where developement team no longer have sufficient funds to provide enough new content - so as a bandaid they keep adding more and more grindy things that are easy to implement but require a lot of effort from players. And this is not a good direction. What is your opinion on that topic?

Do I think they are on the right direction? Having played and well... stuff I can't admit to in NDA terms, it'll end up with content being harder than even the hardest hard modes of current time as normal content because of all the buffs from every where. Yes, however, its all up to BHS and EME to not take the buffs into account for making of such content. If they don't even take them into account then the ones with the buffs will be in ez-mode while those without having a hard time... So there is no real way to win in the argument there, but its all now up to a wait and see game.
However, the game will keep players a lot of diehards and well others, myself included would likely keep playing even if it went all the wrong directions. Why? I like the game and its been a game I've played since before launch. No other game keeps me interested most times. Therefore, I doubt I'm unique of all here, so they will be others too that will even if it is crap, still play and keep playing...
I agree, it is still possible to get all this stuff, even without spending a penny. But my point is that cost of these new things adds to usual new patch cost that is already quite high (new tier gear, etchs, dyads, accessories). As you said, gearing up now is about 500k more expensive (=time-consuming) than previous patch (not including dragons) and we keep getting new grindy stuff that wasn't here before. Even after that we have new grindy guild system. There is a limit on how many alts you can farm dailies before you quit saying it's not worth it anymore.
I am afraid that next mid-patch season we might get even more stuff to grind instead of actual content to keep players 'entertained'. Additional piece of gear (cape with stats?) to enchant/reroll? Pet giving you passive? Titles that give stat boost? Superior glyphs? I'm not against some hard to get min-maxing perks for dedicated players, but at this growth rate the difference is becoming too big, more and more thing will be considered mandatory.
but hey i'm still here playing this soul-consuming game so what do i know
What gave you the impression that a casual player should have the exact same level of shiny as a whale? Games run on capitalism, not communism for a very good reason.
@OP: Guild buffs are a guild effort. From all the problems with the new guild system, you picked the one thing that's a non-issue to complain about..........................
I just hope, N/A does Sorc/ Archer revamp in same time.
Whats wrong with you. Terrible cash shop update, the ****ing of guilds and their functionality, removal of content...
Yeah great direction.
And that's one of the main reasons i'm quitting this game (and things like perpetual huge class imbalances, lack/removal of content, dwindling server population...)
And i was nothing like a casual player, i've put like 3.5K hours on Tera for ~1.5 years, got VM5 +15, 3x toon on VM6 +15 and the last one on VM7 +15, it was already bad enough to trash VM gear every 6 months, but now it seems that i'll need to trash and farm every thing again each patch to play on a now empty server!
I mean, now it's much more than new VM +15 every 6 months...
*That huge grind for quatrefoil brooch and we got a new BIS brooch on VM8 patch..
*New Tier 4 Etchings (new etching every patch?);
*New Crit/Power innerwear( new inners every patch?);
*New jewelry/PVP jewelry with more rolls ( = more RNG, the last thing this game needs);
*Separate designs for every VM (just play on a now dead server like AV and pay 200-700K+ for a design...);
*New op mount (i rly think it's p2w, u pay now or just one more 1000 token crap to grind...)
All this just for one toon and mostly for pve gear only (for pvp, keep in mind that BiS is not Full conflate +12..)
And let's not forget that +15 awakened crap that i put 130x tries on a SF +13 and 100x tries on Imp +15 (there's still no fail cap or enchant correction..)
And please, don't tell me "Be casual, mid-tier +12 is all you need blabla"..
This game now is all about endless gear grinding (BHS made it very clear on VM8 patch), there's no relevant content, for a casual player there's just no point to play much anymore after he/she got mid-tier gear (maybe that's why most ppl just quit 1-2 months after a new class?), and the imbalanced non-eq pvp that we got is another gear grinding..
Yep, i know that Tera is just a korean mmo and all that stuff, but i rly think the grind now is worse than VM5 and VM6 days with almost the same or less content (btw i can't care less about VM2 days and that [filtered] grind..).
That's just imho and i expect another server merger for 2017, and GL for all tryhards lf ppl for the new 30 man raid on the small/dead servers...
