Losing frames as time goes on, anyone can help?

I came back to tera after almost a year of hiatus, only to find out i can't play more than 2 or 3 hours without my frames taking a massive hit. I'm not talking about FPS drops, i am talking about a memory leak.

The first time i launch this game, i get a constant 70+ frames, if i play for an hour, that constant 70+ drops to 50+ in the same area i always was(i tested this by going afk), 2 hours in, 30+, almost 3 hours, 10-15 frames. In the same spot. No movement at all, yet i lose frames for seemingly no reason. And this is the only game that this happens on hence why i'm tempted to say it's a problem with the game itself.

My setup is as follows:
i5 3.2ghz 4670
GTX 950 strix
8GB ram

A year ago before i left, i had no problem with this. Always had the constant amount of frames, the only thing that changed between now and back then on my end, i used to have a GTX 650, now i have the 950 strix.

Anyone have any idea why this happens and how to fix it? It's quite annoying.

  • This might not be the problem for you, but one known cause of memory leaks in this game is certain USB game controllers. It can manifest itself through this kind of problem and also static/popping in the sound eventually resulting in a crash. It's possible that other USB devices may have a similar issue. So at least as something to try, I would try disconnecting any unneeded USB devices and see if that does anything for you.

It could be something else unrelated, but at least I'll say anecdotally that this doesn't appear to have global/universal memory leak issues like this, but just with certain combinations of hardware/software/peripherals.

I do have a steering wheel connected for my other games, i'll try disconnecting it and see if the problem dissapears.
  • Close out your launcher after you are loaded in game, maybe that helps.
