What is your definition of a 'casual player'?

Hello-

I just wanted to some Teranalysis for myself and i was wondering what everyone's definition of a 'casual player' is.

So far, my definition of a casual player is:
- Able to play everyday of the week
- Plays less than 3 hours a day
- Does not have Elite Status
- Prioritizes dungeons to play depending on: a) type of gear owned and its enchantment level, b) type of gear needed, c) time it takes to clear, and d) rewards given, respectively
- Uses materials earned in dungeons to gear up (enchant, masterwork, lock rerollable)
- Invests gold earned in material to: a) enchant, b) masterwork gear, c) change rerollable lines according to the current meta
- Able to use Reset Scrolls as necessary
- Completes as many dungeons as possible within 3 hours
- Takes advantages of quests in Story Quest for its rewards and materials (eg. Vanguard Initiative quest line for basic idoneal/dreadnaught gear)
- Does not purposefully invest time on achievements
- Primary goal at level 65 is to play all dungeons except the hardest dungeon in game (currently SSHM), and therefore fully gear to +12 Slaughter, excluding jewelry
- Has thoughts of obtaining BiS gear or some form of Visionmaker series gear; realization of this is not a focus of playing the game

This definition has nothing to with the skill level of the player
If i missed anything and/ or you disagree with some of the definitions that i proposed then please leave a comment and reason why

If you see yourself as a casual player and agree/disagree with my definition, please leave a comment- thanks!

casual for me is you have other things to do besides dedicating yourself to the game. you enjoy the game, and you play when you can. but it's not something you feel you have to log in everyday to and run quests or instances every time you log in. even an hour a day is pretty high dedication to a game. far more than casual.

less play time, maybe one or 2 runs per day IF that. may just be weekends when free time is available.
possibly elite because logging in once a day gets you loot and bonuses for when you do have time for longer play sessions.
  • I consider myself a casual player. During the week about 3 hours max and that is not even until later in the evening after wife and kiddos go to bed, though on the weekends I do play a lot more. I just log in and derp off with a few friends doing duels or a dungeon every now and then, pretty much whatever sounds good at the time. I only play one character, although I did start and use a couple alts to get my Conflate set complete. I am skilled in all but SSHM and do have a silver laurel, but only because Ive been playing for a while and used that as a small temporary goal to distract me from the grind every now and then.
  • Anyone who spends less than 10 hours a week playing the game. Anyone with a single character in mid tier gear. Anyone who is incapable of clearing the hardest content.

If you fall into any of those categories I would consider you a casual player, not that it makes a difference. Casual players are generally (in my experience) more mature/older and nicer so it's always nice to have them around.
  • people act like being a casual player is a bad thing... most of these things apply to me as far as the definition goes, but I have been playing for 3-4 years now and just last week got my dreadnaught gear to +9. I hope this post wasn't intended for bashing us casuals, but if it is, then oh well, whatever. life happens.

To me, the casual player is that one who logs in every day, but cannot play for a very long time Usually they have something more important in life that prevents them from playing all day, like a job.
  • for me, anything that I can handle with 250 to 280 MS ping lol. So not so hard dungeons, not hard pvp since the ms ping really matters. Also not awakening anything cause I am an Altitus and I love having so many alts and I like to have them at least geared with slaughter. am I casual? I don't know, no lifer? absolutely, after work hour I have nothing else to do lol
  • well... even hardcore players might have jobs lol...
Being casual/hardcore is all about priorities.... in game and outside game...
  • Do you know anyone who doesn't play TERA?
Have you made physical contact with another human being today?
Have you been exposed to sunlight over the past week?
Did you get more then 4 hours of sleep last night?
Do you get up and go to the toilet instead of using a pee jar?
Do you regularly eat stuff that doesn't come in a plastic or foil bag for dinner?
Do you answer to a name other then whatever you named your main character as?
Have you stood upright from your elite gaming desk chair in the past 6 hours?
Are you aware of and able to differentiate something called "the real world"?
Have you found the time to read through all of these questions?

if you answered yes to any of these questions, then you are a casual!

This. I mean I play probably more hours then most players each day but the fact is I also do other things and I always let real life be my priority.
  • I think 3 hours is a pretty long time. I don't think i am a casual player since i was mostly farming hm dungeons always, and 3 hours are often max time i can spend.

I find casual vs hard core (as players) to be more of a mind set and not about how much time they play. A casual can play 10 hours a day, same way a hardcore player can only play 3 hours a day, with the person playing 3 hours achieving more than the one who played 10 hours. Some people play games in a relaxed manner, even if they play for hours, because they don't care about end-game and focus more on 'fun' rather than being serious.

Don't forget the business casuals, they play the Tera economy :)
The basis of Casual is to play and have fun at a normal core, not hard core level. End game changes every few months, depending on time played, they may or may not reach end game level: +15 full set, some would be so lucky to have at the least a +15 weapon. Playing the HM dg is a hassle to some and just not worth the stress of learning (remember having fun is the goal) and not to be raging and stressing, not fun.
It's a matter of taste, some people can handle spicy foods (HM) others can't. Casuals go where the fun is. Which means cosmetics and ERPing.
  • I consider myself a casual player. I pay for elite for the free teleporting and the charms/scroll buffs, rarely duel or do any sort of PvP/Battlegrounds, opt out of doing Hard Mode dungeons because they're more trouble to complete than they're worth, and I don't strive to get the best gear set in the game. My Lancer's in +12 Slaughter with a +15 Starfall weapon (The only +15 I've ever made). I'm just content to login, run whatever (with hardmode exceptions), and chat with my guildies and have fun.

Your definition is something fall between a casual player and a dedicated player. In my opinion, it should be:

_ Able to play the game at least a few times per week.

    _ Playtime is about 1 - 3 hours.

_ Take his/her time gearing up, not rushing the content.

_ Not spending money on gearing much, but more on character appearance.

_ Not getting agitated in a dungeon run with lots of newbies.

_ Prioritize dungeon run first, but not really care about not completing vanguard daily limit.

_ More calm personality than those who are more dedicated to the game.

_ Enjoy the socializing aspect of the game ( aalthough it's not seen a lot in Tera).

Just my 2 cents on this.
