sadness of a 200+ ping player

  • For the sake of not making another topic what classes would those of you who play with high ping suggest for pvp? (Aussie player 240-280 ping got a priest and mystic i play currently and a gunner that's only good for larger scale pvp for me don't know if that's just me being bad or ping though)
  • Sorry, Can't help ya there. I'm terri#@$! at PvP so I avoid it.

I am curious, though, just what exactly it is that is supposedly so bad about 200+ ping. As I've never had any of these 0-50ms experiences that some people so zealously worship, I don't know what the actual difference is. I understand that it takes a moment longer to send info, but I've honestly never noticed any sort of issue that would seemingly make a game so unplayable that others claim it to be. What noticeable affect is there? The only time I'm even reminded that I have a high ping is if I'm a fraction of a second too slow to dodge a mob's attack and still get hit, despite being out of the way, according to my screen. Hell, even as a healer I've never had complaints about being inadequate in my duties. And a healer class seems to me like it would be among the most important for timing and requiring a low ping.
  • They just don't care, they think everyone in the world have a super computer that can run smoothly this poorly optimized game, or that everyone have fiber internet connection to enjoy this without any technical issue.

can somebody tell bhs to increase the maximum time gap allowed between chaining skills so us higher ping players can actually play all the classes we want instead of being locked out of like half the classes if not more? i simply cant chain any skills on my reaper, lancer or warrior at all cus of my ping. such a change wont hunt the balance(like bhs ever really cared about it in the past) but it will allow players like my ping to actually play such classes that require extensive chaining.

    i thought you are a gunner ;)

i am. but i do want to have some alts i do enjoy, and all the classes i enjoy, im locked behind ping so i cant really play them.

theres a reason youre bad at pvp then. the difference between 200+ and 50 ping in pvp. for example gunners point blank>arc bomb combo wont work at all, which is like gunners main setup combo(other combos require luck to execute properly). and in pve, skills wont chain if youre playing some class like reaper or warrior. at least, they never chain for me at all.

Well, 180-200 ms here and yes, it's a very doable ping for pve wise but we lose some dps, that's a sad fact..
For example: On SSHM, if we high ping players stay at inner portion of pizza to try to maximize dps on melee classes, there's a huge probability of dying, so on my slayer i try to play safe and stand on outer edge but that's a dps loss....
A low-ping player on the other hand can react and iframe instantly, there's no need to stop or delay dps.
Keep in mind that 200 ms ping = huge ~0,4 s delay.

Anyway, when i was playing Tera i mained 3 dps classes : gunner/slayer/sorc, and a Brawler (that was just for IOD farming).

Imho, Gunner is the worst to min-max with high ping (but it's easy to do "OK/good" dps), for start we need a macro just so we can use burst fire and that comes with a huge windup animation. It's impossible to triple AB too.
Slayer and Brawler are pretty good for high ping. Sorc i consider them in the middle of the pack (ignore flaming barrage..), but they'll revamp the class and change everything anyway so idk...

That's for PVE tho. PVP with 200 ms is just a waste of time tbh, Gunner is doable and you can score some kills on FWC cuz of AOEs but Slayer for example is useless..
  • The main thing here is getting used to the Ping and then you will start to enjoy it, PVE is more forgiving than PVP. There are certain classes that you should avoid, but again, once you get used to it, they are all doable pve wise. If you google, there is thread on how classes fare in pve with high ping. Common norm, states that classes, such as Brawler, Ninja, Reaper are more suitable. Healers too if you get used to the timing and so on. Gunners, are ok if you can use a macro keyboard for burst fire.

Basically what this thread will tell you, is that classes that have supercancel skills are ideally for high ping players (Slayer, Reaper, Brawler)

One class, though, the lancer, are pretty awful, cuz the you will desync the block loads of times. Then again, if you are used to it, then no problem.

PVP wise is a different story. Mass pvp should be the focus if anything. Doing small scall pvp is out of the question, be it duels, 3s, etc. Unless the opponent has a similar ping to yours, then its all fair and square. To put into perspective, if you have 200+ms and you duel a 50ms player, that low ping players, will move 20% faster than you do. On some classes you will feel a huge difference, if they have the ability to stun/stagger lock on you.

    E.g. Warrior/Ninja 50ms vs Lancer/Slayer 200ms.

Aussie player, 200+ ping constantly. I've legitimately never had an issue with ping. I honestly can't see what people are complaining about.

    This maybe?:

  • Being terrible in PvE and basically fodders in PvP. Yeah that's fun. Keep lying to yourself.

Why torture yourself by playing a game where you have big disadvantage?

Just don't play the game when you have 200ms. Find something else to do. Nothing can help you.

Yea all those people with 200+ ms should quit TERA so EME close the servers because 50% of the players quitted after reading your good advice =) .

ignore that troll lol I play on NA for 4 years with 180-220 ms, I am happy with it, only lancer is a bit problem, all other classes can be playable, pvp is hard since ping matters the most in pvp.

I remember a year ago when we didn't had brawler yet and lancer just had to learn how to keep aggro, everyone was happy becos the aggro was another thing before (was actually hard to keep aggro from good dps players, you had to use threat crystals and others stuff that are useless now) so lancer was hard to play but since all you had to do was keep aggro and know how to position the boss w/ dying, you could play it with high ping and still do a good job, but now after getting brawler you've to keep aggro and also do decent dps as lancer or some people complain/call you noob... with high ping you can keep aggro (easy with new aggro system) but do decent dps w/o eat too much dmg from the boss at the same time is just impossible... so lancer is kinda dead for high ping players atm and idk what the rest of the old lancers did but i had to switch to brawler to not struggle in my lancer with my ping, i keep playing on it but if i gonna do something like SSHM is always on my brawler.

Please sign a contract with BHS to setup a new server for SEA and Aussie players. Of course we don't want to torture ourselves by having high ping on NA server but we do not have other good choices.

I quit my lancer after gunner release, played gunner a bit till brawler release, then I mained brawler for about a year, after lancers got buffed, I geared my lancer, my new main is slayer now, I play both lancer and brawler, but lancer more since it is my oldest char and most favorite class, sadly because of high ping, I don't play lancer in ssnm/hm.

Lancer requires most investment in all 12 classes. It needs strictly high attack speed, CDR, crit, defense and good ping to play on a reasonable level.
  • so it seems like this raise in ping for everyone isn't going away anytime soon ..
or is en masse trying to work on a solution
  • 200 ping sadness? i play at 300+ on unstable wifi, can you help me find my sadness? :^)
