Ive been keeping my eye on this thread for a few days now , but i agree, playing this game on high ping is like playing any game on super hard mode. My ping ranges from 270-300 each day, but in saying that , ive learned to deal with it. I main a brawler and i am able to come relatively closhish to the top 15% players on NA Tera dps wise. On my brawler ive got about 200-300 DSU clears and similiar SSHM clears. Once i get bored , I also play my sorceror , where although not that great ive also cleared DSU and SSH 50+ times. I just wanna share the high ping life is very sad indeed  , but it is doable wth the correct mind set and predicting whats happening next :)

it is doable, but i'd prefer to be able to play the classes i want instead of what my ping allows me to. nothing thats supposed to be chained ever works at all.
  • you know what is sad? unable to auto renew your elite or you forgotten to renew it. :/

I started to play TERA since february 2013. I made zerk, which I left at lv25 because I fastly was able to make some gold out from BoL's loot and mostly because I made and continued playing a slayer after getting several leathers and swords from BoL.

Then I made a sorcerer, a warrior, a berserker, a priest, a gunner, then another gunner, then a third gunner, after a while I made a brawler, then a mystic and finally and quite recently an archer. I play all of these character meanwhile my ping is around between 240ms and 290ms and sometimes 300ms. I still tank KDHM and DFNM with my Dreadnaught +12 brawler and sometimes I don't die and sometimes I die a few times due bad timing or just because I am kinda sleepy meanwhile I play or sometimes due the bad team's performance. Still, I do several dungeons without much problems. I live in Argentina and even my ISP is not a great one and my computer is not a high end rig.

So, I really can't understand if I can play this game without problems and witout complaining about the connection latency, then why others keep expressing to not be able to play this game when they even have much better latency than me and I use all of my character's skills and chains as also de dodge and block.

I am not a PRO player. Even so I guess that some that know me and have played with me can say that at least I am a decent player playing with a latency between 250ms and 300ms.

Whether its feasible or not isn't the issue.

The fun factor and experience is not equal between low/high ping users fact. Case in point, many high ping players avoid PVP altogether. This is a major problem devs have refused to fix that I'd expect the current community here not to really address. As I recall, when game went f2p for months every other day you'd see a thread about ping-fps-server-dc-desync issues. I've had router issues before so I know what clunky high ping in this game means. It's atrocious and the Warriors with 200+ ping saying its OK are full of [filtered]. You shouldn't have to adjust when another paying customer gets quality service for same price.

Like with anything, once you know a better quality service exists for the same price, you naturally want it. The complacent attitude of Tera community is nothing new unfortunately. No one should be settling but demanding since other competitors do not have this problem. The blatant obvious fact is BHS/Nexon refuses to fix it and prioritizes on milking.
  • Low ping isn't all it's made out to be. Bonded Dsl to my house -20ms. I'm still a scrub and find myself crying real tears on a nightly basis.
  • Um.. when I was playing with 200+ ping, the only thing that didn't work was spacebar mashing.. but if you do your rotation manually it works fine? Or has that changed?

Manual is fine, but for classes like lancer (or even warrior sometimes), even without spacebar mashing you're still gonna miss a lot of your Debilitate > Spring Attack or Shield Bash > Onslaught chains, causing the latter skills to activate very slowly, which isn't supposed to happen if they are considered "chained" by the server.

I posted this some time ago in another topic, I think it gonna help some ppl in here too

"For a quick sum up, any class that u cant skill cancel into other skill (aka Like Slayer for example where u can cut animation as soon as the atk hits) is bad with high ping.

I played and have evertyhing other than ninja and reaper and imo the worse to best class for high ping is as follow:

Sorc and Archer - You gonna lose lots of dps from it due to sorc slow casting (by slow casting i mean the time it takes from the moment u press the skill, till it get released) and lock ons, and archer rapid fire that now is a main skill and shoots really slow with high ping, which nearly makes the skill useless

Lancer and Warrior - If u dont mind lose some damage by trading some roll on ur wep for put some atk speed on it, (with energetic III if possible) u can play this just fine (ive imperator on both and im pretty good at it, all things considered). Your commands gonna respond a lot better (never gonna be like a 20-30ms game but yea, patience)

Gunner, as ppl said before, you can play gunner on high ping just fine, but if u dont have macro for burstfire, u gonna lose a crucial dps skill (same case as Archer rapid fire, only diference is, Gunner BF still have a solution, Archer RF doesnt)

Berzerker - Personally, the ping on zerk dont bother me at all since i dont "chain" any skills (read spacebar) but ive seem some low ping zerk in action and yea my game is kinda slow compared, but as i said before, it doesn bother me.

Brawler and Slayer - Prolly the best ping friendly classes due to animation cancel on most of the skills so yea, best classes for high ping doubtless.

Healers - Once you get used with the timing of ur lock-ons and iframes, it wont bother u at all with (a steady) high ping

My ping is 180-200ms and my fps is something around 20-30 in 5man dg and can drop as much as 7-10fps in raid

Hope this helped but yea, you just gonna know for sure when you test it urself =)"

Im currently main Archer and my dps is pretty good, but it would be a lot better if I had lower ping, simply becos, as a high ping player ive to rely on Penetrating Arrow (which have a crap crit rate [50% on a good day]) instead of rely on Rapid Fire (Nearly 100% crit rate on a ridiculous low cd) like any low ping Archer.

In any case, the game/balancing/everything that is released, is designed for KTera where ppl have same low ping and the game is somewhat "even" to everyone, ping-wise. I heavily doubt them gonna change that, AT ALL.
It wouldnt surprise me if the following patches, the "revamps", make some classes simply broken at low ping and retardly useless at high ping.
Meanwhile, all we can do is laught when that 20ms player in ur SSHM pt is bitchn' about "how lagged his game is at 110ms"
