Comcast Lag Spikes

Has anyone with Comcast been spiking quite heavily around this time for the past several days? I know a few others on MT told me the same but was wondering if anyone else from other servers have been experiencing the same spikes.

  • A few people were posting last night that they were experiencing lag spikes and were also on Comcast, so I'm inclined to think this probably is indeed a problem.
  • Yep. Same time every night. Starts at about 530pm pst and usually stops around 630-7pm. It seems to only be happening on Tera. Any other website or game I use is fine.

I don't know if it is Comcast or not, but mine spike only in SSNM/SSHM. The start of battle is fine, but then when it gets close to the middle of battle, lag kicks in and I'm done and game becomes unplayable. Then I try to re-log and close the launcher completely and relaunch and log back in, but the sign in box won't pop up and then the launcher closes by itself. Then I have to wait like 5 or so minutes to be able to log back in again into the game...this been happen for 2 days now for me. I never have this before until yesterday and today. /sad life

yeah its comcast users that are the only ones having lagg issues around this time on tera for the past few days. I don't have comcast but alot of friends have it.
  • I have comcast as well and i'm experiencing the spikes too. Happens around 9pm est for me.
  • Comcast user here that experiences lag spikes. If enough of us come forward will something actually be done about it. And can it?

It's difficult because it probably falls on some interconnect provider that may not be strictly Comcast or strictly EME's provider. But the first problem is trying to isolate the exact problem, and to that end it'd be great if people could post their traceroutes as explained in the second half of this post. If we could isolate which hop along the path is causing the problem, it would at least help know where to point.

Well, I did the traceroute but I don't know if I did it right, and other than the fact that my numbers don't seem to match EM's example of a healthy traceroute, i don't know where to go for there or how to even post it.

    Row 4 -- 9ms 9ms 12ms

    Row 6 -- 20ms 19ms 22ms

    Row 12 -- 45ms 41ms 41ms

I wasn't in game at the time, so I don't know if lag was occurring. Sometimes it doesn't last long, other times feels like 10 minutes or more.

If you can post the whole result from like row 4 or something down to the bottom, that would help. (Of course, at the moment it may be time, so best to do it at the time you're having a problem, if possible.) All the results will be different because it reflects the unique path you're taking to the server.
  • Ok, I ran the traceroute during lag spikes tonight and got the following.

This looks a bit suspect to me:
    10 88 ms * 46 ms ae27.cs2.lga5.us.eth.zayo.com [64.125.30.252]
    11 42 ms 41 ms * ae3.cs2.ord2.us.eth.zayo.com [64.125.29.213]
Seems like an issue at Zayo in New York City on the backend before it heads to Chicago. It so happens that my own connection is following the same path and I see the same thing at that hop right now.

Hopefully others can post their traceroutes to see if everyone has that in common.
  • Yes I have experienced a spike last 2 days at the samee time (around 8:40 pm ish - 9:10 pm ish Eastern time). I also have comcast and usually have around 20-30ms but it was spiking to around 300-3000 and it was red color ping. And my connection is fine as everything else has worked flawlessly except tera in that short time period.

This isn't the first time but it happened beginning of ninja patch for a few days around the same time and at random times like few weeks later. It's really annoying and impossible to deal with especially while tanking. I was in dfhm at the time so I didn't think about a traceroute but if it happens tomorrow, I will do one and see. Also yesterday I noticed the launcher was acting very weird, where it didn't have my username in there; I had to put it in and usually it should be saved. When that happens, then there is something bad going on for sure.

i was on comcast 4 months ago and i had constant spikes all throughout ds2 patch (i regularly played with 200-800 ms up from my usual 60-90.)

it's been going on for a long time but nothing's been done about it. zayo is largely involved in it from what i understand, and i had an issue with a hop from denver back when i was with that isp (i used to live in california.)
