Future of Tera

  • As I once said The last time I quit, It'll probably survive for a while, but it'll never be as big as it was. I since moved on to another korean MMO, who's community is ignored and the game has countless bugs and bad optimization. And I have a feeling the same thing will happen there. The community will dwindle over several years and eventually they'll shut down when the whales get tired of playing with the bots, and the diehard whiteknighting fans have given up.

It's sad, because both of these games really have good potential, but they just can't seem to come even within miles of competeing with something that hit steam at the same time, is also by a pretty unheard of developer, and is an MMO. I think the main difference (aside from the gameplay) is that the community seems to get listened to, and there aren't any threads on their GD about the future of the game.

I mean, look at GW2, it's got a pretty good sized population, why is that? Probably because they listen.

I think using GW2 as an example, along with the others you listed to compare to Tera is rather poor. While GW2 is generally owned by a Korean company it was still developed by a studio based in the US with that region as the target audience. While Tera was developed in Korea with Koreans as the target audience. Just look at all the major differences between the development and basic core design philosophies between the two games. A game made for Koreans with nearly no changes directed towards the Western market isn't ever going to be as successful as one made in the West for the West. North Americans do not like a lot of things Korean players like, and part of that is due to cultural differences and how the average Westerner views games. Unless BHS, a very small dev team working on several games, is willing to basically produce their content for 2 different versions of Tera it will never be some very successful game outside of Asia. Not only is it hindered by the fact it's a Korean game, many MMORPG players actually still prefer tab target, or settle on hybrid, for pve. The action combat aspect is why the other games you mentioned can't be compared, since I believe one is tab targeted while the other is from an entirely different genre. One other issue with using Steam is EME was forced to block Europeans and the fact Steam actually causes issues with Tera for some people as well.

in the time koreans kicked our [filtered] in the hall of frame in guild war :3

it was guild war golden time :3
  • I will say the game isn't about to die, but there really is no reason to stick around with better products that do what it does and better. I love TERA with all of my heart. This game has been my go-to since my highschool days, but I think it's time for myself along with many others to throw in the towel and move towards more ambitious games. We have certain titles I'm not allowed to mention because of forum rules. What was once a game with expectations and great promise is a husk with its former glory gone. That's all I'm gonna say on this. I don't need restrictions because freedom of speech isn't allowed in the US.

    Don't force yourself to choose.

I don't understand why most of these threads seem to always come down to "if I have to pick one and only one MMO to devote my full-time attention to, which one should I choose?" This isn't just a TERA phenomenon, but I see this on every single MMO forum I visit -- forums are full of people who choose to devote themselves exclusively to one and only one MMO and then run out of things to do (or find that it's getting stale) and complain bitterly that the game can't fill the entirety of the hole in their gaming heart, with the insinuation that if the developers were doing their jobs right, it should.

Just play multiple games and save yourself the choice. Even the director of FFXIV is on-record saying that, if you're bored and approaching burn-out, just take a break -- and that's a subscription game! Blizzard is also fully-aware that people let their subscriptions lapse between expansions. EME isn't going to think you're a traitor for enjoying "the competition" as part of a healthy, balanced gaming diet. Having played almost all the recent MMOs, there are things TERA does that are still better than all the rest (I'd put the general combat system right up there). But there are things these other MMOs do that are better than TERA. Most MMOs are deliberately trying to aim towards a more casual market, so just be casual! Try them all, enjoy them all for what fun you can get, and enjoy your gaming life!

If your gaming enjoyment really depends on devoting all of your time/focus/energy into just one game that will own your life, they'll all let you down. I've seen bitter "this game has gone to hell and is going to die soon" threads in the forums for every single major MMO, and every time a new game comes around that is supposed to be the "new savior," the same thing happens. There is no perfect game; it's just the question of what compromises you're willing to make.

Well, I knew there are some words like "most of us" looking forward for Revelation Online but its just another Black Desert rip-off Chinese version. Its combat system isn't like TERA and I certainly won't playing it.

Back to main topic, next we will have Spellbound patch. Which brings some *new* dungeon, new gears and Sorcerer class revamp.
And after that, we will also get other classes revamp too, stated that few classes for major revamp and other for adjustment accordingly.

Looking at Steam's players count, we have around 1,800 average players while 2,700+ players on peak time in past 3 months. Noted that most of us didn't run TERA using Steam. So the count may be vary but looks promising (not going to die soon).

Moving next into in-game experience, I personally can assure you there is no other game like TERA, vise-versa. While people keep chanting P2W in Global Chat, its not like you think, it is however, is possible if you have enough gold and just buy everything. Easiest to earn gold in-game is buy EMP, and sell them in-game at rate 1:30-1:40+, 1 EMP for 30+ gold. Meanwhile, the true F2P experience is when you collect everything via dungeon, quest, broker negotiation and doing some deal with other players as well (crafting services).

Currently, EME are trying their best to pleased *Elite* players but that's not something you to worry about because in the end, it doesn't matter. They (EME) own this game, you (your account, micro-transaction in it and others related) and they can do whatever they want, whether you like it or not.

I hate to point this but, TERA loves for Elin is what keeping its alive.
Sure TERA have some future, not brightest but enough to keeping it alive for another year or so.

P/S: They didn't even care to fix Bamarama announcement in-game bug, and it's already been 2 months. Other bugs? I don't think someone counting them.
  • forums are full of people who choose to devote themselves exclusively to one and only one MMO

Because most people don't have time to play full time on more than 1 MMO.... And you know how grindy MMO gets before you can do actual contents.
  • On topic to the OP; Yes, Tera won't be dead right away; but I guarantee you all you will see is decline all the way from now to end. Present is worst than past, the future will be worst than present. If this is what you want to play with, then welcome!

For Spacecats, so he cannot accuse me of making negative nonconstructive criticisms:
The solutions were clear since so long ago:
    - Remove +15
    - Remove or significantly nerf reaper, brawler, gunner
    - Bring back nexus
    - Balance the gears (best gear must be less than 3% better than 2nd best gear, new gear must be less than 3% better than current gear)
    - Remove 65 cap in CS
Add the following to the list:
    - Bring back guild bank
    - Remove p2w dragon
    - Remove guild buffs
    - Just remove this whole guild patch actually, it's a complete disaster and nothing good came from it.

I should just keep this list and copy-paste this everytime XD

Direct from the interim CEO of EME,
    EME_Kimmander:
TERA and En Masse aren't going anywhere.
This totally sounds weird, but: TERA has got LEGS (and I'm not referring to our characters). I believe that TERA has got a long future, mostly because of our loyal player base. It's on us to ensure that our players are enjoying the game and treated with respect. But if we do it, they will come.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/TeraOnline/comments/4drzmx/im_sam_kim_interim_ceo_of_en_masse_entertainment/d1txfmo/?context=3

I wouldnt say loyal. As soon as we get a good alternative of options with action combat a lot of players will walk.

I too am worried about tera. I love it but worried it wont last long anymore :(
  • Anyways,
    For me personally
It's just better to let this game go....
Also been playing pretty long, but still, better back off now than watch it slowly die

    PS.
    Thanks for your opinions :pleased:
  • Lolz how many times has it been since TERA was supposed to die? BnS, Archeage, Black Desert, and I'm pretty sure I forgot some other ones they were all supposed to kill TERA. Fact is as long as no other MMorpg exactly copies TERA combat it's not going anywhere. >:) Tab targeting in any form equals fail IMO. >:)
  • RKCRKC ✭✭✭
LOL Black Desert and BnS died faster than tera.

The irony of those people who said it will kill tera. They just killed themselves.
