VM7 vs conflate in pvp after the patch

Hi all,

I have posted a comparison for defense ability between VM7 +15 and Conflate gears before, but most people were taking care of the buffs on those gears which came out with this week's patch. So, since we got the patch, I compared those gears again.

First of all, the experimental conditions that I used are below;

Attacker : Sorc full VM15
Skill used : Void Pulse, frontal attack, no critical hit
Crystals : both attacker and defender did not wear any crystals for pure gear comparison
Damage : Each test was repeated multiple times in order to confirm that the actual dmg was identical
Etching & gear options : Same etchings, and same options on gears.
Loss of set bonus : I did not consider it becasue this loss of set bonus cannot be compensated realistically.

Part 1

Performance of single piece

No wonder, each piece of Conflate gear showed way better result in defense. And conflate belt showed about 18% more defensive performance (which means it took 18% less dmg than VM7 belt).
Therefore, people can assume that conflate gears became OP with this patch. The simple summation of those number is about 42.3% (I know this summation is NOT right). However, with all pieces of gear (chest, gloves, boots and belt), the result shows somewhat unexpected thing.

Part 2

Actual dmg taken

"% better" simply means it takes X% less (or more if it is negative number) dmg than Full VM7 +15. This results were quite surprised to me since the best combination of gears were "VM7 gloves, boots + conflate chest, belt", NOT full conflate. Indeed, this BEST combination was just 4.09% better (in defense) than Full VM7 +15.

In a consequence, at least for now, conflate chest and belt are pretty worth to use for pvp, and gloves literally have 3% more dmg (but ~1.5% more dmg taken). And the boots are simply BAD as many people expected. But I still would like to say conflate gears are not OP as many people expected before the patch.

# additional experiment

The test above was taken place with robe class, so I was wondering how other class' conflate gears perform in pvp. I quickly tested with a brawler who has Full VM7 +15 as well as conflate chest. Surprisingly, when he wore conflate chest (VM7 for other piece), he took more dmg than full VM7, it was like 2~3% worse than full VM7. I am going to set up the experiments for metal and leather class later.

  • Nice to see some people from this community put this info to clear some doubts, nice job, too bad this patch ruined pvp for me :angry:

    On the brawler - with full VM7 he had 6 (or 7?) more endurance than with Conflate chest + rest VM7. That could explain the 3% difference

    But then it would mean 3000 base defense is worth less than 6 extra endurance?

    That is very good point. Like I mentioned at the top, I did not consider the loss of set bonus since it cannot be compensated at all. However, since some people still doudt like you, I did some makeup experiment in order to answer your question.

    Look at the table below;

    3fd8fb901d.png

    When defender unequiped the weapon and added 7 endurance (the last set bonus for VM7), he took exactly same damage as full VM7 which means endurance 7 and the last set bonus (also 7 endurance) works correctly.

    However, still surprisingly, 4 pieces of VM7 + 1 conflate + additional endurance 7 still shows questionable defense performance. For example, conflate boots now have total of 5,899 base defense, and VM7 +15 boots now have total of 5,096 (plz ignore MW % since it is very insignificant and anyway conflate has way better base defense). This conflate boots with additional endurance 7 is supposed to take less damage than full VM7 +15, but it still takes 3.58% more damage. So we can say 7 endurance works for about 2-3% more defense (it depends on the total defense), and VM piece has some sort of "Hidden defense bonus".

    I wish this result helps to answer your doubt.

    To those who do not want to read the whole things..

    In short

    Conflate belt+chest are pretty good choice.
    Conflate gloves do more dps in pvp, but take more dmg
    Conflate boots SUX

    And..do not simply trust base stats on gears, VM has hidden defense bonus.
  • the blacksmiths last mercy for example on imperator weapons is proof they have hidden stats for anyone who doubts
  • I'm not saying there aren't hidden stats, but can you explain why last mercy is proof?
  • Test Starfall you'll find something quite shocking.
