Displeasure of social interaction

Here I was running a dungeon (that cannot have it's cooldown reseted), when the priest decided to pull me repeatedly into the boss's one shot mechanics to watch me die and laugh at me, while saying I am brazillian (which I am not) as if is something one should be ashamed and pursued for.

The community of this game is already so small, and with this patch is getting smaller by the day, while I already had to endure all shorts of offenses and harassment here for being foreign and a woman, I can see why before it was not punished/taken seriously by EME's staff, since they had more people to policy. But honestly right now, we need to come across the same people over and over, daily if we want to play the game, specially the hardmode content.

I am very tired to see people with offensive character names running around, saying what ever they want, bug abusing the rally quest and getting away without any sort of punishment, feels like reckless toxic people can do what ever they want and laugh at you without any consequences, while you just have to 'deal with it'. My job entails dealing with customers via internet, and I play MMOs for many years so obviously I know that one should ignore all the poison that flows from people behind their computers, but when a playerbase get to the size that ours currently is, I feel like the game is not welcoming and pleasant anymore.

Probably this is going nowhere, but I'm just not feeling happy playing Tera with this community anymore, maybe I am not the only one.

It's unfortunate that you're running into bad apples in the community. However, as you stated, this is the internet. Unfortunately a lot of kids run around the internet thinking they can just do anything without repercussions and/or having to deal with the fallout, all in under the pretext of "trolling". It's toxic, I agree wholeheartedly with you.

But, it's borderline impossible for a lot of us to prove anything, and even harder for EME to punish (unless it's really really obvious). Because in most cases, most would rather err on the side of caution.

Having said that, it seems that you're having a really bad time. So I would suggest you make use of the block list, and just block people you dislike or rubs you the wrong way so next time you see them in lfg with the block symbol next to their name, you know to stay away from it. And conversely, make your own circle of friends that you'll like to run things with so you know that you'll be able to have fun without having to deal with people that annoy you.

Having that said, what server are you on? Maybe I can see about getting some runs in with you if the time zones match up?

Hey Mahavala, I'm sorry you ran into this. Verbal abuse and vulgarity (in user names too) are taken quite seriously by our support crew. If you see this happening, the best thing to do is report it with a support ticket:
    http://support.enmasse.com/tera/tickets/submit

While CS reps don't generally share the results of a report (they don't share account and banning info), so it's hard to know if someone's been punished, you can be 100% sure that the person you've reported will at least be investigated.

Beyond that... have you looked into finding yourself a guild? There are a lot of really great people who play TERA. It's possible you're just not seeing them because they're grouping with each other instead of relying on the instance matching system. You should visit the Guild Recruitment forums and find yourself a good hunting party that you can enjoy chatting with!

    @FinalArchon
Thank you for your kindness, trust me I do use blocklist but as I said the point is that the community is so small right now that is not like one can avoid all the rotten apples easily, specially being on MT server. I play form CBT1, and at the moment most of everyone that play is already a familiar face, for good or bad.

@AKF3FHXPD9 Dude...people have feelings, and not all people are the same :/ Even if an individual is able to deal with trolling and toxicity, there is still only so much they can take before they get frustrated.

Also, OP I'm so sorry you had to deal with people like that. I don't quite understand why people find it necessary to be rude on the Internet. Maybe they are like this outside if the Internet? Or maybe they find the Internet the only place they can express their true self? All know is no matter where you go on the Internet there will always be those types of individuals whoes goals are to harass you and other players.:/

Just like Final Archon said, they best you can do is to block them and try to advoid those types of players. I hope that you find a guild or group of friends that are kind to you and will help you in future cases c:

  • Sorry to tell you this but I've come across the issue, harassed multiple times by the same person. Then sent evidence multiple times and from my experience support won't help. They will say they can't make people play nice with each other, and that you can avoid this by leaving party. Which blew my mind.
  • Thank you Spacecats, I already made a few reports in the past, but without noticing any difference I just never bother to do again, is good to know that you seem to care more about it than before, I appreciate.
  • Haha, that's pretty funny lad. Sorry sorry. Well, I'm glad the mods have finally started caring about their players -- I remember sending in many a tickets for just this before and I still see the people roaming around. Be it buying armor sets with real cash, selling gold or just outright griefing it seems like they just throw all my tickets in the trash or something. I guess when most of your playerbase is dipping for other MMOs, you've gotta finally start caring huh...

Yeah, totally, I'm sure that's the reason. Because...your char speaks with an accent and your [filtered] accidentally spill into the game every time you enter a dungeon?
I am very tired to see people with offensive character names running around, saying what ever they want, bug abusing the rally quest and getting away without any sort of punishment.

That moment when you equate people "saying whatever they want" to a legit 3rd party program exploit....that's the moment I start wondering if this is a troll post....
  • @mahavala Take screenshots and report them via support ticket. Surprisingly enough, EME actually really cares about harassment in games. They will most of the time take action and punish them, either with a warning, chat bans, suspension ban, or even a complete ban.
  • @Spacecats - have ya'll thought about hiring someone solely to watch chat in-game? You know, I'm always available to work via remote... :D

Well, that was a good advice.
There are many cool players in TERA. If you are between the bad guys just leave them and try play again with others.
  • @Mahavala Your issue sounds slightly complicated, since I've seen people accuse others of being Brazilian due to poor performances in dungeons and backgrounds, but I've never seen someone saying that the underperforming player is female. You might want to consider that people don't know your gender unless you specifically point it out talking with your party. Nobody has the right to insult you, but I think they would've done it regardless of your gender.

On a slightly different note, I do think that the game needs a bit more moderation, especially global chat. Part of the reason why I almost never read or post on global is because there are players that post blatant racial slurs or other discriminative remarks. The game is not G rated, but there is a crucial difference between raunchy humor and talk about extreme pornography or the eradication of Muslim refugees.
  • I feel like if the op pointed out they were female. Clearly they most likely said something harsh related to that.

Global never really had moderators; if a GM happened to be on they might have stopped a few things, but that's the same as now. This issue of moderating Global has been a "hot topic" since the very beginning, and EME's stance was basically that it's unmoderated except for reported abuse and spam.

(The fact that some people are saying that EME doesn't punish actual abuse makes me mad, though, assuming that's true.)
