I do think this (along with the rest) is a very valid point to keep in mind. Excepting that one patch (which was fixed pretty rapidly in K-TERA, though we had to wait), the beginning of pretty much any MMO patch cycle is usually defined by longer grinds. Then, as the patch wears on and the next new gear gets closer, things get easier and easier, since the cycle is about to begin anew.
So, to a certain degree, all these changes are part of the way to meter out the cycle again. Whenever the pacing changes like, there'll always be lots of forum complaints. It's like some steps will be taken, as you point out, at least in the form of events.
