Awh man I love Tera. Spent 28 minutes queueing for LKNM just to run into tanks that don't use aggro crystals. And more than half of them don't even speak english, so how do you tell someone that they need to wear an aggro crystal... My +12 slaughter gear Sorcerer is ripping aggro from mostly brawlers due to that and the whole run is just awful. I'm salt.

    Threat crystals aren't gonna help if the tank doesn't dish out decent DPS.

    Tanks need full crit setup and damage rolls on weapon to sustain aggro efficiently.

    As a Brawler I use full DPS crystal when I got my Guile Weap, 4 keens, Pounding instead of Threatening, not much complication and also I usually out dps others by smashing buttons and punching bosses, but when I was in Slaughter I had to use 4 Threatening Vyrks and change pounding for Threatening.

    Lancer I haven't run it after Soulbound, but even with Eclipse around I was using Threatening Set all the time, cause I really liked to Stay in one place lol
  • Threatening won't help if the tank isn't doing damage on their end and also depends what rolls they have on their weapon and everything else. Basically the skill of the tank is in question for the most part.

    Threatening crystals don't have anything to do with aggro anymore...... It was changed awhile ago. Aggro depends on dps now. I don't use threatening crystals either or glyphs anymore.

    Well,,,threatening crystals help tanking. But the thing is, if you have guile +12 gears and do "ENOUGH DAMAGE" you normally do not need aggro crystal to hold aggro.

    However, from my experiences and testing, when tank (either lancer or brawler) with full guile +12 w/ noc and bravery can hold aggro against +15 Ambush sorc/ninja. However, the dps with +15 amush + noctenium + bravery with really good dps rotation..it is gonna be really hard to hold aggro from them. But, if you put 1 aggro crystal on your weapon, you will be able to keep aggro from those dps.

    So definitely aggro crystal is correctly working, but in normal situation (like you have guile gears and you're not running with descent dps who does 2 m/s dps), you do not need it.

    If they only do 100k dps an aggro crystal is not going to save them.
  • yes it does. I can zerk tank holding against +15 people with just 200-300k/s except for some serious sorc/ninja busts but i would get aggro right back. That tells you how useful that crystal is
  • Back when I was learning rmhm it helped alot to use threatening on the last boss cuz i didnt have to focus on dpsing so much to hold aggro. But yeah if the brawler is able to keep up growing fury they shouldnt be needing threatening crystal... unless theyre really under geared

    Aggro generation is now based on damage dealt for tanks and DPS classes.
    Direction of attack no longer affects aggro generation.
    Using Defensive Stance (warrior) or Intimidation (berserker) generates double the usual aggro.

  • I went LKNM with my 2nd brawler with full slaughter set. There was one +15 imp sorc in team. I couldn't keep the agro all the time. But. like 90% of time, I could hold the agro.

    The good thing about Brawler is, even I lose aggro, I can't get it back fast.

    But, War tank. Warr hold aggro ability is the worst among all the tanks. If i lose aggro, It's harder to get it back.

    But, I agree with OP that, some new tank should wear threaten crystal.

    Threatening crystals do their job, you just can't expect it to nullify the DPS dealing way more damage than you. I can easily tell the difference between when I don't use a crystal and when I do. Sometimes "dealing enough damage to hold aggro" doesn't apply when you have people in your party that actually know how to rotate their skills and are +15 while you're +12. You may hold aggro while you're attacking, but the moment you have to iframe while the DPS is still attacking, your aggro is gone. The crystal provides a safety net for when you stop attacking that I can attest to.

    You're taking the quote from the patch note too literal. Aggro is still aggro, it's just that aggro now scales with how much damage you deal. Having a higher aggro threshold will allow the damage you deal to scale even higher while you have a crystal on. Some tanks don't have the same skill level as the DPS behind the boss. That's nothing to insult the tank for, you just need to choose your parties or your tanks more carefully as a DPS. However, when you see these issues, you will also notice that the tank has 2 pounding on instead of an aggro crystal. A lot of the times, aggro issues can be solved by having that threatening crystal. Sometimes, the tank's DPS may not be *bad*, the DPS may just be leagues better; and having the threatening crystal will allow the tank's aggro to scale better with their low DPS.

    The issue isn't that "threatening won't change anything." It's that these beginner tanks are being ragged on by +15 imperator DPS, and they haven't yet properly learned how to tank, and because all the guides and people say "stop using threatening, it doesn't do anything, you need to deal more damage" they choose not to wear it and they pay for it during the dungeon run.

    Brawler is not my main, and I haven't run any HMs with it yet, but even without threatening I can keep aggro 95% of the time, if I lose it, I got skills to get it back (and the cd for it is like what, 20 seconds max? So just gotta keep aggro during that short time). And I'm definitely not the best tank out there. So yes, in general, doing decent dps will do.

    I'm slowly growing fond of my tank though, and I'll probably get aggro crystals as an alternative set if I ever want to run something harder. It's not like they are unbelievably expensive or anything.
  • The other thing you need to consider is this, if a player dies, agro resets. Period. So if people are dying, even a good tank will have trouble keeping agro. Being as I play a Brawler, and previously mained a sorc, I know both ends. Threatening is not necessary with comparable gear unless the tank is just absolutely shite.

    what etchings do you have on wep/gloves? i know enrgetic on both has been the standard but im seeing more brawlers with crit/power AND full hydbrid crit jewelery
