Sorcs and eclipse pots

edited November 2016 in Game Suggestions
I'm sorry in advance, but what the fu**??? What were you thinking when you were overpowering sorcs AND removing eclipse pots at the same time?? I won't speak for all tanks out there, but I started to play for brawler, and now I got sloughter set equipped and aggro crystal in my weapon. This was always enough. Always. New aggro system was ment to make life easier for tanks and for parties with overpowered DPS calsses. Now you screwed it all up. Sorcs now have all the aggro in the world. Even +12 sorcs. Before this stupidity got released any tank in any gear coud do his job, and everyone was fine, cuz DPS could do their job, healers could do their job, and tanks tanked. Now tanks in low tier gear (well, sloughter is low, but it's still a set with power and endurance stats, and my set has good rolls too) can't tank, even if they are able to do the dungeon (know the mechs). Think about people (read tanks), who has 150+ ping. In order to maintain aggro, they have to use their skills non-stop. Yea, brewlars can do it. Not all the time, but still. But what about lancers? They cant. Their rotation is very limited. And in high ping cases they just HAVE to skip hits to hold aggro.
Bring back eclipse pots or lower sorcs DPS or raise tanks' aggro factor - do something, cuz what we have now is not playable.
Forgive my english - I'm Russian.

  • Skilled lancers and brawlers should have no problem keeping aggro against any class. Most issues either rely on a person's skill of tanking of not being able to keep aggro correctly or it's the difficulty of dealing with high ping. Lancer's rotations are not limited but knowing how to use them effectively is key. While I agree that eclipse potions shouldn't have been taken out, this issue was always a problem even when eclipse was still available. The issue is worst now and can see who is a good tank or not these days.

All you shall see is if a tank has +15 spear.

My Lancer has no +15 and still holds aggro against those doing high damage. Eclipse potion really wasn't going to stop most of these Lancers from losing aggro. They should simply swap out a Carving/Pounding for a Threatening Niveot if they can't hold aggro.

It happens quite a bit when Sorcs use mana boost.

You really can't keep up to a good sorc in equal gear without a threatening sometimes given that you have slightly higher ping. Only solution is to swap out for a threatening and if you really need more aggro get a simple grounding brooch (assuming you haven't gotten quatrefoil or rare empowered brooch).

Also, increase your crit factor because I am guessing you don't have enough crit chance to consistently do enough dps to sustain aggro.

Edit: Now I am tempted to run threatening on my Sorc and play tank sorc lmao.

  • I often run with a very skilled sorcerer from my guild who normally does somewhere between 1.70m-1.90m in sshm before the patch and even after this patch in the new dungeons, and not have issue keeping aggro on my lancer. The only time aggro may be an issue for me is if there are a lot of deaths and aggro resets but that is normal for everyone. A tank such as brawler or lancer has to reach a certain dps to match the other dps in the party or else it will be a struggle against very skilled dps. And to be quite fair, I never know if people have used eclipse or not in my runs because my ui does not show charms. I never have thought about it honestly. But when I run on my dps class, I always thought about using it if I feel the tank was new or something.
  • I have tried to hold agro againt +15 IMP Sorc with +12 Slaughter, +12 Guile and +15 Imp with my lancer.

    1. Slaughter lancer with threatening crystal - It was so hard to keep aggro againt + 15 imp guild skillful sorc.
    2. Guile lancer without threatening crystal - I was able to hold aggro when +15 sorc does 30~35% of total dps. But, lose aggro when +15 Sorc does 40~60% of team dps.
    3. IMP lancer - hardly lose aggro to +15 any dps. I haven't tried RMHM with lancer yet. But, in all other dungeons, imp lancer can hold agro just fine.
  • I feel like you guys are young. DPS classes back in other MMOs had to hold back their full potential to allow tanks to keep threat. If you wanted the boss's attention you could get it almost any time you wanted by failing to manage your threat. Threat reduction and pacing out your dps bursts was an important factor in a lot of MMOs to the point that games like EverQuest and WoW even gave classes threat reduction cooldowns.

Pulling aggro was never seen as the tank's fault. It was your fault. You shouldn't have been DPSing so hard and should have paced yourself as much as you could manage without going over. Threat meter mods eventually made it child's play with little to no guess work but before that being able to tell when you were about to pull aggro based on the numbers flashing across your screen (quick mental math) was a skill.

Now people go full burst and complain that the tank "can't hold aggro". Idea: take a break every few seconds to let him catch up. <_<

I remember games being like that as well, it's why before on Tera I never complained much about getting aggro unless the tank just played poorly. I'm used to generally being able to limit my output based on the tank. I do the same for healers, I face tank things depending on the healer.
